Teddy Bridgewater wins Pepsi NFL RoY

I don't disagree that Sammy would have put up serious numbers with a better QB situation...No question... But one good catch? 91 receptions in 12 games...12 TD's including an 80 yard one...1300 yds...Beckham was an absolute monster as a rookie...He had an amazing season...I'm uncertain why he and Sammy are not allowed to be independently impressive by some...That catch was nothing more than icing on the cake concerning Beckham's season...He's absolutely not a one-catch wonder... -
Yet it can be quite easily determined that he outplayed McCown on the field...In fact Glennon's stats from his Rookie season were better than the vet McCown's were last season...So...

Patriots Fumble Rates since 2007 rule change
KOKBILLS replied to somnus00's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm sure it's some of both...I don't doubt whatsoever that Belicheat is one hell of a good football coach...I also don't doubt that he seeks out any advantage he can get with incredible persistence even if it falls slightly outside of the rule books... -
Patriots Fumble Rates since 2007 rule change

I read this report earlier today...I never thought about the effect a deflated ball could have on fumbles...But this statistical analysis is really mind-blowing...Common sense would tell anyone there is virtually no way this is 100% coincidence...I'd be interested to see if this gets any serious coverage over the next week...I'd like to hear Belicheat and Brady answer some questions about this stuff... -
Bills parting ways with CJ Spiller? - NFL Insiders on ESPN
KOKBILLS replied to K D's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I've very clearly been a harsh critic of CJ's since the minute we drafted him...But I also recognize what he is capable of doing on a football field...And he is capable of a lot... CJ should be utilized like Darren Sproles...He's should be a specialty back who catches the ball as much, if not more, than he runs it...and a return guy...Look at Sproles stats from 2010-2013...238 rushing attempts, 291 receptions...I don't think it's a coincidence that there were reports of interest by Chip Kelly before he traded for Sproles...Kelly knows what Spiller should be... From what I've heard out of Whaley lately it seems to me the Bills have every intention of at least trying to get Spiller back at a decent price...And I'm guessing (well...maybe I'm praying) that means they understand how he has to be used from this point on...I also think CJ's preference is to stay in Buffalo...Granted Rex and Roman would like to pound it...And I think they will...But I also hope if Spiller does return they are smart enough to recognize what Spiller could mean to an Offense if properly used...He's not an every-down back...I don't even think he's a great fit as a back-up...I do think he's a weapon and a potential match-up nightmare if properly utilized...We've all seen what Spiller can do when a play fits his skills...He can still be dynamic...He can still be a game-breaker...But if he's going to be used the way Marrone and the boy wonder used him he's never going to be consistently effective...I think Rex and Roman are smarter... We'll see soon enough I guess...As much as I've been frustrated by CJ over the years I really like the kid a lot and I would love to see him placed into a system that properly uses his skills and hides his weaknesses...I hope that system is in Buffalo...But at the moment I'd give it no more than a 50/50 chance of happening... -
Browns seem done with Johnny Manziel; enters rehab
KOKBILLS replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Because the important story here is the support he got from folks on a Bills message board... Seriously though...I don't blame anyone for thinking JF could eventually play well in this league...He has enough talent...Unfortunately he's dumber and less mature than even his harshest critics could have imagined...An undersized QB with a slightly above average arm is going to have to work awfully hard, especially on the mental aspects of the game, to succeed in the NFL...So far, from most reports, it seems Manziel has been the opposite of a hard worker...He's actually been far worse than most thought he would be... So anyway, I don't see the need to point fingers at those who thought he could be a decent NFL QB eventually...I thought he had great potential...But I also assumed he would grow up because I thought he loved football enough...Obviously I was wrong, and many others were too...But I don't see how anyone could have figured his off-field behavior would be this bad, this early...Sure the signs were there...But he's taking it up a notch... -
David Lee comments on Geno vs EJ
KOKBILLS replied to truth on hold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think Joe B. hit the nail on the head concerning EJ during this mornings conversation on WGR... The problem with EJ dating back to his time at FSU has been accuracy...But not necessarily accuracy that can be tracked fairly by completion percentage...It's more ball-placement...The ball being too low, too high, behind the receiver, etc...I sincerely challenge any Bills fan to go back and watch film on EJ in most games and concentrate on the amount of throws he misses to open receivers...Some of these passes even end up as completions...But the ball is so low, or so far behind, or so high, the receiver has no opportunity to continue the play for additional yardage...And in the NFL an open receiver is sometimes a very, very small window...EJ struggles mightily in this area...And I'm not so sure this is a coach-able thing...I'm not saying I know...I'm just uncertain... IMHO...Those who claim EJ struggles reading Defenses are ill informed...Or at the very least they are not grasping the whole story...He's a young QB...He's not perfect reading Defenses, don't get me wrong...What young QB is? But through this early stage of his career had EJ simply hit the open receivers in stride 65% of the time he would be a top 15 QB in the NFL easily...Probably top 10...This is an area where a QB like Russell Wilson pulls ahead of the pack despite somewhat average passing stats...He's a career 63% passer, which is average (tied for 18th in 2014)...He's only completed 57% of his passes this postseason...Is anyone claiming Russell Wilson is struggling reading Defenses this postseason? I did not think so...But pay close attention to ball placement, especially on mid-longer range passes...He's got deadly ball placement...Especially when he gets a receiver running open...And that turns into points and big plays...Something that has been lacking in EJ's game for a while now... Now before anyone jumps on the Wilson thing I do realize he's amazing on his feet as well and extends plays as good as any QB not named Rogers or Big Ben...But IMHO without his ability to hit receivers in stride he would not make it in the NFL...At least he would not be anywhere near as effective... So as far as I'm concerned EJ either improves his ball placement or he's done...It keeps the chains moving and turns into big plays...Especially when you have a WR like Sammy on the other end...Plain and simple... -

Go Seahawks! I'm a Seattle fan till the end of the SB... -
OK...Obviously...So? I was not commenting on the Bills QB situation...I was commenting on the type of Offenses that win Championships in the NFL... We don't have Wilson, Luck, Manning, or Rogers either...Heck we don't even have Romo, Big Ben, or Flacco...So let's obsess about that further...It's hardly ever done around here... I mean...I get it...We all get it...I think we can all safely assume that until the Bills get a QB that can challenge Defenses they are not going to win the SB...It's a given...
-
Exactly correct... New England is yet another example...They have games where they go a full half without running...And other games when they run for over 200 yards...Adapting to what the Defense is giving you, mixing it up, and exploiting weaknesses, is the Offense that wins Championships in this day and age...

Changes to Draft/Game Rules to Overcome Good QB Dearth?

That was my main thought in helping through the passing game...The elite QB's will easily adjust and still be much better than the mediocre one's getting more help...The gap would remain... -

As a Rochesterian and graduate of Fairport High I'd like to say *&^% all of you suggesting anywhere other than St John Fisher... -
Glennon has averaged being sacked 2.95 times per game behind a terrible O-line...That's certainly not terrible... He's not a statue and he never was...Even at NC St...He is 6-7 without great straight line speed, and he's only going to be able to be so quick at that height...But compared to Orton he's Flutie...
