  1. I was a Joe B fan...I really was...Even though I did not agree with the guy on everything, and even knowing he was certainly not qualified to be a "Draft expert..." I really did not care because I respect his work ethic and his efforts... But this EJ thing with him has turned me against the guy...And this is coming from a fan who has unquestionably been critical of EJ in the past...But there's a difference between legit critical reporting and campaigning...And Joe B, IMHO, has been campaigning against EJ from day #1...Ignoring some REAL important facts while doing so, and really not even trying to hide it... Like I stated in another thread, in his first 14 starts there is an undeniable direct correlation between good EJ and the Bills ability to run the ball...Basically...When the Bills ran the ball well EJ was good enough and they won...When the Bills did not run the ball well and too much was asked of the young QB he basically sucked, or at least he was not good enough...The Bills had 5 decent games running the ball with EJ at QB...They were 4-1 in those games and the only loss was that Toronto fumble debacle vs Atlanta... Now...I realize there will be games every QB has to take over and win when the Offense can't run the ball...But when you can't run the ball worth a darn in 2/3 of your games, and your QB is a young project, what exactly do you expect from him?...I don't think EJ will ever be a 65-70% completion guy...I think he will frustrate everyone at times no matter how long he is in the league...But anyone who judged the kid absolutely based on his first two years is simply doing so unfairly...And Joe B is right at the front of that line...Good grief I could actually understand it a bit if EJ had a Manziel-type past...But the kid is everything you want in a QB off the field...I really don't mind the legit criticism...There's plenty in EJ's game to be critical of...But this seems more like a witch hunt...It's shoddy...
  2. I'd believe the HC and not the reporter who has an obvious dislike for everything EJ...
  3. Finally something for Bills reporters, especially Joe B to be happy about...Cassel looking good and EJ not...Must be like a wet dream for them today...
  4. Are you assuming the Bills will once again be one of the poorer teams in Yards Per Rushing attempt? If so I agree 100%... But if they are one of the better teams in the NFL running the ball the Bills can be seriously dangerous...Especially if EJ or TT can manage the game, not turn the ball over, and hit a deep ball every now and again...Not to say they can be Championship caliber...But they could certainly win the Division if things fall right...Granted that's a lot of if's...
  5. Agreed... And for the life of me I can't understand why this is either so hard for some folks to understand...or why they simply seem to disregard any chance of EJ winning this job... IMHO, EJ should always have been viewed as the favorite...And it's not because I think EJ is all that...Believe me I'm fully aware of his struggles...Rather, it's just logical based on the three QB's vying for the job... EJ is the tallest, has the strongest arm, and was the highest rated prospect of the three coming out of college even if he was over-drafted by a round or two...EJ may not have TT's speed, but he's certainly mobile enough...And he may not have Cassel's experience, but he does have 14 NFL starts...19 (combined) TD's to 12 INT's...So at the very least he's worked through the hardest time of every QB's career...He got to sit back and watch a vet QB last year, something he should have been able to do in his Rookie year, so that should help him...The kid is smart and super driven...Quite frankly I'd be surprised if he did not win the job outright...I really would... I think folks are getting too caught up on EJ's bad times in his first 14 and not looking at things logically...The Bills had a 100 yard rusher only twice in EJ's 14 starts...One of them was 103 by Spiller in the home win vs Carolina...The other was the Atlanta game that the Bills would have won had it not been for Stevie and Chandler fumbles...In the home win vs the Ravens in EJ's rookie year Spiller and Freddie combined for 164 rushing yards...The same year in the road win vs. Jacksonville the two combined for 147 yards on the ground...In the season opening win vs Chicago the Bills combined for 174 yards rushing with Spiller, Freddie, and Boobie...Seeing a pattern yet? EJ has only won 6 games as a starter, and go figure four of the six were when the Bills ran the ball well...It would have been 5 out of 7 had they not fumbled away the Atlanta game... Even with his accuracy issues (something all 3 of these QB's have btw...), which are real no doubt about it...EJ still gives the Bills what they need assuming they can improve running the football...And, at least IMHO, he's clearly got the most upside of the three...So should we really be surprised if EJ beats out these two? Really?
  6. It's not just Joe B...It's most of the Buffalo media from what I can tell...There are a couple guys on WGR who are still living under the assumption that EJ has zero chance due to a throw away quote by Rex during Mini Camp...Not because Rex was critical of EJ, but because he did not sound excited enough...They literally made the assumption off one quote and due to "the tone" that EJ simply was not Rex's guy...It's mind-numbing...
  7. Exactly... Andre was on Murph's show the other night and indicated that the top 5 (Watkins, Woods, Harvin, Hogan, and Easley for ST's) were pretty much locked in...He said it's a fight beyond that...
  8. I was thinking yesterday...With the known fact that this team is going to built around the Defense and the run game would it not be a FAR bigger issue if one, two, or all three of these QB's were lighting it up in Camp so far?
  9. I always assumed he graduated from FSU he talks about going there so much... Interesting...I stand corrected... When I googled his name this was one of the first links that came up... http://www.wkbw.com/sports/bills/joe-b-sans-progress-ej-may-be-done-in-buffalo
  10. I like Joe B...I really do... But... Joe B went to FSU and has been anti-EJ from before the Bills Drafted him...He's just another one of the many who are completely and totally ignoring the fact that no one ever said EJ would be an overnight success...He's also another who has, at least at times, been stupidly critical of EJ...But he has plenty of company...
  11. Thanks for this... I want EJ to win the QB job simply because we used a 1st Round pick on him and I feel it would be best for the Franchise if that's the way it goes down...But I certainly want him to win it...and earn it...No matter what, I want the QB that gives us the best chance to win to start week #1... That being said...I listen to a gross amount of WGR every week mostly because I moved back to NC last November and I crave Buffalo Sports talk...I listen to the morning and afternoon shows and the weekend show...IMHO there is such a clear and just...well...blind bias against EJ among some Bills fans and especially Bills media that I find it ridiculous at this point...And let me be a little more clear...I have been critical of EJ myself...Especially his lack of ability to consistently hit open receivers in stride...But some of the drivel analysis I listen to by some fans and media...It's just a joke... Mike Mayock was among EJ staunchest supporters before the Draft...Mayock moved EJ up to the #2 QB on his board while everyone else (possibly correctly) was calling him a 3rd-5th round pick...But Mayock was crystal clear that EJ should be viewed as a piece of clay...It would take time to mold him...He was not ready...It would take time and patience...So...Even the guy who was his biggest supporter was warning everyone he was not ready...But due to circumstances, EJ is thrown into the fire as a Rookie, looks good at times, and bad at time, then gets hurt...The next year he gets benched after his 3rd game...Does this sound like the way to handle a piece of clay? Anyway...Anyone who says they just know EJ does not have it is joking themselves...I'm 100% willing to admit I have no idea...And I'm also 100% willing to admit he may never amount to much...But what I do know is that EJ is smart, hard working, and has a load of natural physical talent...I just can't for the life of me figure out why so many observers of this team seem to...IMHO...be under the assumption that EJ has no chance...And due to that assumption they are taking SO much out of context...Taking one throw-away quote by Rex during Mini Camp and suggesting by the tone that EJ is simply not Rex's guy, but ignoring the fact that Rex picked EJ out as one of the players that impressed him most the 1st day of Camp...And now pounding, and I mean POUNDING the "fact" that EJ looks worst of the three...or that EJ started with the 2nd team on the the first day...I'm guessing based on this it will simply be glossed over that EJ took the 1st snaps with the 1st team in the 1st Night Practice right? Seriously...I'm so sick of it...Good grief...
  12. Gotta love the off season...
  13. Sal is clearly the best currently covering The Bills...IMHO it's not even close... But that's mostly the football junkie in me...I think Sal knows football, and he seems well studied...I'm not going to agree with everything he says, but who does? When he tries to read the tea leaves, like how a single answer by Rex shows EJ is not his guy, I admit he loses me there a bit...But anyway... I think he's consistently good...And I genuinely like Sal...I love that stupid chant/song they intro him with too...I laugh every time...
  14. I was never too worried about Kujo...Not yet at least...He and Henderson were Rookies last year...I really don't fault any kid for a bad Rookie year, especially at certain positions...Some guys just take a little longer...It's sort of the same theory I have about EJ...It's not that I have been completely thrilled with what I've seen...But there's not enough evidence to convict either...These 2 young OT's have the potential...And I agree about it being a best-case-scenario seeing Kujo pan out...It gives them insurance if Glenn gets crazy money elsewhere...And the 2nd Round Pick thing is a very big deal...
  15. After a few days of reading you'll wish the security was a hell of a lot tighter than it is... Welcome...GO BILLS!!!...
  16. I doubt Brown's problem is going to be as much "catching up" as it will be Karlos Williams...
  17. I thought this Draft served it's purpose for the Bills...But I can understand the lower grades...Without a 1st and 4th it was inevitable... Most folks looking from the outside in don't get it...And it's easy to sit back and say they need a QB...Even though the 3 they have (apologies to Tuel and his fans...) are very possibly...if not probably better than anything they could have got after the 2nd overall pick in this Draft...The Bills are looking to win, and win big now...None of these project QB's was going to help in 2015...There are not many spots available...That's the honest truth...There were a few holes...I think they filled them decently... It looks like Whaley and his bunch did the one thing that was most important...Get a starting OG...And they were able to get him in the 3rd...Miller is the most important player from this Draft class...He's going to be given every opportunity...If he plays well it's huge... Darby is more a of a future pick, but he'll add insurance depth for 2015...If he develops like they expect the secondary looks stable for the next few years...I like his upside... I think they stole K. Williams...He may end up being the best player from this Bills Draft class... They added a TE late that has a good chance to be a solid #2 for years to come... Steward is an NFL caliber athlete and has a chance to make it on Special Teams...And Lewis was great value in the 7th... In the end the Bills added talent to an already talented roster...I can see Miller, Darby, and Williams as potential starters in the next three years...O'Leary figures to be a good back-up to Clay...And the other two are talented enough to turn in to something if they develop well...All in all not bad, especially considering they did not have the 1st and 4th...Not great, but not bad either...
  18. I could be wrong...But I can't see a scenario where Boobie gets cut...he does too many things well... I agree about Williams...How you can do much better talent-wise with a 5th round pick?... I thought Freddie was pretty safe until the Williams pick...Now it seems like either Freddie or Brown is the odd man out... I looked at the 49ers 53 after the final cuts last year and they only had 7 at RB/FB/TE combined!!! So who the heck knows...
  19. Probably... In the ends he gets to pick where he plays... After hearing the story of the Cowboys recruitment it sounds like the kid was pretty star-struck...Pun intended...That's where he wanted to play...
  20. I'm not saying I disagree necessarily...But right or wrong at this point we as Bills fans have to believe Marrone and Hackett were exactly the reason EJ did not get much better... And I think there is evidence in favor of that possibility...The Offense they placed him in was a run 1st Offense that could not run with an O-Line that progressively got worse in pass protection as well...It seemed like a poorly executed Offense overall...Not exactly a perfect scenario for a young QB...It took a 9 year vet to come in and make it barely respectable...And he could only do so much... I'm not saying EJ will ever amount to a thing...I am saying there are plenty of folks around here who recognized quickly that Marrone and Hackett were woefully over-matched as NFL coaches...So...we'll see...EJ is now running an Offense with an OC that has proven himself in the actual NFL...He's a 1st round pick with potential and he's only 25...At the absolute very least I want to see what the kid can do under Roman before I make any judgement on them for not taking a flyer on Petty or any other QB they could have had in the 2nd or 3rd round...We'll see how it plays out...
