Week 1: The good, the bad, and the missing
MDH replied to Alphadawg7's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You've questioned where the 3 other receivers were. There are only so many balls to go around. Unless you think Allen is going to put up 300+ yards every game with 50 attempts you're going to have guys that aren't targeted that much, it's simply math. If Brown is getting open, and he was yesterday, that's going to be Allen's #1 target the majority of the time. After that, it's Cole. When teams start taking those guys away is when Zay and company will get more targets. I have a feeling that will be sooner rather than later. -
Say what you will about how messy Allen looks at times the kid has 4 fourth quarter comebacks in 11 games finished. The moment doesn't appear to be too big for him with the game on the line. He is also 6-5 in games started and finished. It might not be pretty and might be very frustrating once there's a very good team around him but he tends to play his best football at the end of games. Probably because he's thinking less and just making plays.

Yeah, it was impressive but every highlight I see is him sitting in the cleanest pocket you'll ever see throwing to guys who have 2 yards separation. Now, he still has to make those throws and you see plenty of QBs misfire in those same situations so good on him but...I'll also hold off on saying he's made huge strides just yet. Consistency is what makes great QB play, not a game or two of WOW.

I'm fine with them dumping Shady. Singletary can handle it along with a few carries from Yeldon.

After watching last night's game I'm happy the Pats signed AB. They don't need him. He's not going to make their offense that much better, they can already put up 30 against most teams. But what could happen is that he hinders their offense as they attempt to integrate him into their offense mid-season. I've seen it before where teams try and force balls to WRs to "keep them happy." And I can hear you now, "that's not what the Pats will do" and maybe it's not, but I don't see AB being happy with him, Edelman and Gordon splitting receptions. I just don't see it going as smoothly as everybody thinks.

I agree with most of your points. I liked the Daboll attacked the defense's weakness by throwing the ball a lot. It's what he needed to do, though he went a little overboard early. The strength of the Jets' D is up the middle so I think he could have peppered in some horizontal runs to attack the edges where they weren't really concerned with contain. Add to that that the Bills have a center that can pull out to the edge and I believe the Bills would have had some success running outside. As for Josh Allen, I keep seeing people say the INTs "weren't his fault" and maybe they weren't. But he also had an INT called back from a penalty away from the ball and another easy one dropped. So that's two instances of "bad luck" with the actual INTs and two instances of "good luck" with the ones that didn't happen. To me, that's a wash. He has the INTs on the stat book he deserves. That said, I still mostly like what I saw from the offense and it's passing game though I would very much like to see him stop looking to run so much. 10 attempts is too many. He needs to looks to move around the pocket without looking to take off and run everytime he feels some pressure.

Yeah, that was embarrassing.

I like Belichick’s interviews. That is all.

The fumble on the sack is all on Allen. He saw the LB coming and tried to stiff arm him instead of just protecting the ball.
-
I didn’t hear Tre White’s name all day. I didn’t even really ever see him on my screen. I’m not sure they ever threw the ball in his direction. Thats shut down right there.

The first fumble was bad decision by him. When an LB is bearing down on you in the backfield the correct response is not to try and stiff arm him. He was also fortunate that two bad decisions he made didn’t result in INTs. That said, I love the kid’s resiliency. The game isn’t too big for him with the game on the line. That’s an important trait. -

Somehow Brown’s performance isn’t being recognized. 7 rec. 123 yards withgame winning catch on a ball he has to make a big adjustment to. Bills might have found their #1 WR.- 586 replies

As horribly as they’ve looked the game isn’t over. Jets have failed to put the nail in the coffin. -

Bills need more chunk plays. They simply lack the discipline to score consistently with dink and dunk 10+ play drives. -

Allen 65% passer and just about on pace for 300 yards. Success! -

That was not Morse. Allen closed his hands before the ball ever arrived. -
I think I counted 6 Pats threads on the front page. I’m really looking forward to tonight’s game where we can hopefully hear more about this underreported story.
-
I read he missed two more in a row right after that. The last two from 50+

Edmunds jersey arrived Thursday. Ill be sporting that.

Jets are strong up the middle from the front all the way to the back. If any of the pass catchers have big games Id go with Brown or board favorite whipping boy Jones.

I keep hearing how Bell’s legs are going to be fresh after sitting out last year and not being used in pre-season. While this is true haven’t seen anyone mention that he’s not used to contact. It’s been forever since he’s been hit. I could easily see him coughing up the ball a time or two today.

Just winning will do that. The Jets have CLE, NE, PHI, DAL, NE, JAX after this game. If the Bills win the Jets could be looking 0-6 right in the face.
