Ellison has played pretty well at the outside positions but the guy could not play MLB on an every down basis if his life depended on it.

Drafting a RB in round one is the biggest waste of a draft pick unless your team has all the other pieces in place. It's a luxury pick. A solid OL can make a mid round RB a 1000 yard back but a great RB is going to struggle behind a weak OL (check out Edge last year for proof on this point).

Bingo. The Bills seem to be the only team not signing their own star FA in a year that the cap skyrocketed.

I think you're missing the point of what Simon is saying. You said you hope he pays dearly for it when you have no f'in clue what he's allegedly done. So you want him to pay dearly for IT when you don't even know what IT is (or if he really did IT). Nothing like picking up the pitchfork before you have any facts.

Possibly losing 4 defensive starters

I'm not over rating anybody. Clements, when he's motivated, is a top 5 CB. Fletcher isn't a great MLB but he's good, and better than anybody on the market or any rookie that could come in do this year. A bad D losing 2 of it's best 3 players (even if you don't think they're that great) doesn't translate into the D becoming even average unless they manage to find some diamonds in the rough via the draft. -
I could see the Bills making a play for Dewayne White. He's experienced with the cover 2, is a position of need and is the type of second tier, young, FA that Marv seems to want to target.

It doesn't help that 2 of the players being lost are 2 of the top 3 players on defense though. You can't lose your best players and expect to improve. -
Nate Clements is not that good

Barber is a very good CB and I could see someone thinking he is a better player than Clements. You're right on most of the others though. -
The trade itself favors Denver but I question why they'd use the 8th pick in the draft on Peterson. They've been able to plug anybody they want into their backfield and have a successful running game so why bother using such a high pick on a RB?

If you know Defense, then which of the three do u Pk?
MDH replied to Dual RB way to go's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Combining an average pass rush with a weak secondary is a recipe for disaster. As much as I believe stuffing the run is the most important thing a D can do, if I was going to be forced to have a weak secondary I'd want an excellent pass rushing team to offset that secondary. Given the choices I’d have to go Excellent pass rush, average run stuffing, weak secondary. If the secondary was at least average I wouldn’t feel the need to have an excellent pass rush. For instance, if the choices were excellent, average, average I’d go excellent stuffing the run and average pass rush and secondary. -
With the exception of games against the Jets, when does Willis play good football? MY problem with Willis has nothing to do with his offspring and everything to do with how he performs on Sundays.

Yeah, but the 30 million the Bills will allegedly spend will include rookies, which will leave less than 30 million to be spent on FAs.
-
You forgot the rookies, though only one rook got a significant signing bonus.

As idiotic as it sounds I wouldn't mind franchising him. The Bills aren't spending to the cap so that's a moot point. Franchising doesn't affect future years so that's a moot point. The Bills have nobody on the roster to fill in at MLB next year and the FA cupboard is pretty much empty. The Bills will likely draft Fletcher's replacement. Franchising him gives the rookie a year to grow into the spot. Fletcher certainly isn't "worth" that money but as a Bills fan I wouldn't mind if they did it.
-
The Yankees are a bad example. Nobody ever claimed that spending money automatically buys a championship (as your team has to still play games) but if the money is spent well it gives you a decided advantage. The Yankees are in the hunt for the championship year in and year out. that's all you can expect.

So your point is the city of Buffalo can sell out 16k seat arenas easier than it can 75k stadiums?

Illinois to retire mascot because it is "offensive"

I'm not sure you really understand what free speech means. It doesn't mean that people can say anything they want and everybody else has to STFU if they don't like it. It means the state doesn't restrict one's speech and leaves it to the people to decide what they will accept and what they won't. In the instance you site, free speech is working perfectly. -
And the real issue with this is the team will end up DOUBLE COUNTING dollars. For instance, let's use your above scenario: The Bills sign a player for 6 years and give him a 6 million dollar bonus. The league amortizes the bonus over the next 6 years and counts it as 1 million to the cap in each of those years. The Bills count all of that 6 million to this years cap (the 30 million figure). Cut to next year, the league calculates the Bills cap room and counts the amortized 1 million dollar bonus towards the Bills cap next year. The Bills use that adjusted cap space (which already includes the 1 million bucks from last years bonus) to determine how much they can spend next year. The Bills will count the bonus to this year’s cap AND to each year's cap in the next 5 years. They will be double counting money unless they don't give out signing bonuses at all.

Smith might be let go by Chargers

And everybody ripped the Chargers for passing on the "sure thing" Vick. Hmm, Tomlinson and Brees or Vick, I wonder who had the better draft that year. -

I can't think of a person I'd like to have less than Carrol running the show. I think I'd take Spurrier over him. Poor SD fans if that comes to pass. -
Bledsoe.

A$$ or not the guy has stacked SD with the most talented roster in the NFL. I'd take him as Bills GM any day. -
I hope Giant fans enjoy their team lining up in a 5WR set with an empty backfield on 3rd on 1.
