What game were you watching? For the better part of 3 quarters the Bills offense looked exactly like it did under EJ. Check downs, short passes and an inability to pick up 1st downs. The only accurate pass downfield that Orton made all game was the one to Goodwin (which was a fantastic pass.) People are always too quick to jump down someone's throat and say they suck and too quick to appoint them the savior. The guy is an average - at best - QB and the Bills will win based on the strength of their defense.

I don't think this called for an exclamation point.

Over a decade later and the Bills have done nothing to excite the fans so we're still reduced to arguing over two crappy QBs that couldn't get the job done back in the day. Ugh.

Does anyone still support EJ or Hackett?

He did have the young QB project drop back 70+ times in the past two weeks against teams with questionable run defenses and the team not needing to go into "abandon the run" mode. -
Bills aren't going to hold back this weekend

Coaches aren't going to bench a QB who is getting the job done for the next big thing. Coaches care about one thing, winning. -

Why do people think Orton is some world beater? The guy hasn't had a starting gig since Tebow beat him out. To expect miracles from him is pretty unfair and the same people that expect these miracles will be the same ones piling on him when he doesn't deliver them. The cycle never ends... -

It's interesting to me how a lot of people want to put the majority of the Bills' struggles on EJ yet nobody is concerned with Orton's 8-30something record in his last 40 or so games as a starter. If the majority of the blame goes to EJ for the losses then why are all those losses that Orton piled up as a started not mostly his fault? You can't have it both ways. To top it off people seem to expect Orton to somehow be better after a few years of getting very little actual game experience. Not sure how a lack of playing time makes a player better but I guess we'll find out. I really think for a lot of people it's "anything but EJ." I hope it works out for the Bills and EJ can sit and learn on the sidelines while Orton leads the Bills to the postseason but I have serious doubts that this is going to turn out well. -

EJ: "I want to be a different player... cut it loose."

Says the internet poster hiding behind his computer to a guy who goes out in front of 70,000+ people every Sat and Sun for the past 6 years to lead a team. -
I have an idea Sammy, you worry about getting open and CATCHING the ball and let the coaches worry about critiquing the QB position.

The Bills are not starting Orton hoping he improves week to week. The guy is a vet and they expect results. If they're hoping a QB is going to grow into the roll then Orton isn't the guy you start. I do like the excuse train that's already in place for Orton though. After the last two weeks I'm convinced that EJ needs to sit and watch for awhile but I'm not going to have any patience for a vet going in there and not getting the job done. If Orton can't get the job done then Manuel needs to be put back in the lineup. If the team is going to struggle they might as well do it with a young QB learning the ropes.

Would you rather have Geno and Rex or EJ and Doug?
MDH replied to Mike in Horseheads's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That aggressive approach has cost and will continue to cost the Jets games. The name of the game is to win, not win pretty. Rex is doing his team a disservice by letting Geno be so careless with the ball. Rex's aggrssion on D works because he has the horses to back it up but needs to put the breaks on the offence if he wants to give his team a better chance to win. Granted, I think the Bills pump those breaks way too much and I'd like to see them be a little more aggressive (like throwing on 1st down half the time) but I don't want EJ carelessly putting the ball up time and time again. There is someplace in the middle I'd like to see. All that being said I'd take Rex over Marrone solely based on the D he brings to the table. -
Am I the only one who still believes in EJ?
MDH replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sure you can, it's called footwork. It's why he was more accurate in weeks one and two and looked horrific last week. It should be no surprise that Manuel looks iffy when he's pressured. He looks nervous back there because he's not processing the field fast enough and he's watching the pass rush. It's called being a young QB. Maybe he never gets better or maybe it all starts to click in week 9. Nobody knows, but to say you can't teach accuracy is a bunch of bunk. To be accurate he has to have solid fundamentals and those can be taught one way: repetition. -
Would you, right now, trade EJ for Tannehill straight up?
MDH replied to FireChan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So he's aiming for the opposing teams secondary? -
Rivers has a rag arm. Let's hope the wind and rain combine to help him throw up some ducks that can be picked off.

Week 3: Chargers' Game Preparation - Sammy Wins RoW
MDH replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bolts are ranked 31st in yards per rush against at 5.6. That's horrible, even through just two games. Combine that with the fact that the Bills love to run the ball and it doesn't look good for the Bolts D. They're going to have to bring a S up to help which should open some stuff up for Sammy or Goodwin. -
Richard Sherman might be a little insecure
MDH replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The guy's results are amazing. To be considered the best you have to cover the best. The way Seattle plays D they allow the offense to dictate match-ups which means they stick their #3 on Sherman frequently. It's tough to tell how good he is when that's the case. -

Marshall Charles Clay Rivers Clay isn't the best player on the Phins but he'd help the Bills the most. -
Woods not practicing, ankle - Update: LP Friday

For all the talk of Williams helping in the red zone I can think of only once when he was targeted. Last week on a 3rd and goal they tried a fade to him. That's it. On a side note, I hate the fade on 3rd down. If you're going to do it, do it on 1st or 2nd and leave a better designed play for 3rd. -
Sullivan is just a weather vane. He points in the direction the Bills (and their fans) are heading. He always seems negative because, well, the Bills have sucked. If they keep playing well he'll continue to write these types of articles.

Yeah, 3 knee injuries in his rookie season will make the player and the coaches a little gun shy. It looks like it's been preached to him to not do the types of things that Ben did/does. Given those injuries I'm happy with him taking the safe path as long as he continues to find players down field to throw the ball to.

I watched the Chargers/Hawks game today and some things I noticed: -The Chargers OL allowed consistent pressure from the Hawks who mostly rushed 4 (with the occasional blitz.) Despite the pressure Rivers was fantastic at reading the pressure and getting rid of the ball to hot read or running with the ball. It was impressive how he didn't force anything and thereby avoided the big mistake. For the Bills to be successful they're going to have to bring guys up and cover the short stuff because Rivers will hit it all day long. -Gates is a monster. Rivers will literally just throw the ball up and hope Gates comes down with it and he usually did. The Hawks had Chancellor on him quite a bit and he couldn't stop him and at other times they'd get caught with an LB on him (with Chancellor getting over too late a few times, most noticeably on one of the TD passes.) I'm not sure the Bills have anybody who can match up with him. -The Chargers were pretty resilient. On two different occasions inside the red zone penalties killed them. Once a TD was taken off the board and another a 1st and Goal at the 5 ended up being a 1st and goal at the 22. Both times they ended up with a TD anyway. This is a team that gets 7, not 3. It's not going to be good enough putting up a bunch of FGs on offense this week. -For some, inexplicable, reason the Hawks decided not to run the ball. They put the ball in Wilson's hands and while his numbers looked decent he wasn't effective at moving the team consistently and he was under pressure quite a bit. The few times they did run the ball they were successful. The Bills best chance offensively lies in their normal game plan. Run it and run it some more and let EJ hit a handful of big gainers here and there to get the chunk yardage. - The Chargers didn't try to run the ball much even before Mathews got hurt. Most of their carries were towards the end of the game when they were running the clock. They had 3 WRs on the field most of the time. That along with Gates means I don't think Spikes gets on the field much again this game. I wouldn't be surprised if the Bills employed 3 safeties for a good portion of the game in an attempt to negate Gates while still having some semblance of a run D. A stud TE is a nightmare match up for any D. This is a tricky matchup. I actually like the way the Bills O matchups up against the Chargers D more than our D matches up with their O. I think it's going to take a minimum of 24 points to get it done, hopefully the O is up to the task or the Chargers make some mistakes and turn the ball over.
