  1. How many failed coordinators does a HC have to go through before it becomes a reflection on the HC? And when the defensive unit is so poor for 2 DC's, isn't that a reflection on the people picking the players? It should be.
  2. The atmosphere Thursday should be fun after this butt-whooping.
  3. Getting fired is not unique to the NFL coaching community. Getting fired at multiple stops and continuing to keep a job is, and that's what Gailey and Wannstedt have done. Wannstedt has Jimmy Johnson to thank for his employment, and Chan Gailey owes Bill Cowher. Otherwise both of them would be out of the league.
  4. T-Jack still inactive? Clearly 11 weeks isn't enough to pick up the Megamind offensive playbook for a 7 year veteran QB. Oh well, Buddy created the problem and now he's fixing it in his own Nix way with an assist from his HC. Makes perfect sense.
  5. And people are surprised and then angered by Greg Schiano's comments about Buffalo. He's not talking about the city either.
  6. Good post OP. I wish the team had hired a consultant 3 years ago, but I get the impression RW's handlers won't let anyone in the inner-circle to recommend changes. There are several long term employees up there who probably push the owner away from outsiders to come in. And so you get people like Nix and Gailey who are in their final NFL job with the results to match.
  7. In the span of 2011-12, 10 QB's were drafted and are starting for their respective teams. Aside from Newton and Luck, the Bills had a chance at all of them. It is inconceivable that those other 8 did not have what Nix was looking for. You do not wait for the draft to come to you and expect to find a veritable starting QB. If you state that repeatedly, sure, you'll never get the guy. There are several NFL teams that must rebuild from a failed regime and almost none of them do so without getting their QB near the beginning. 10 teams have done it and while it does not guarantee success, it remains the responsibility of the GM to get that guy ASAP. RF was not their choice upon taking over, had 2 years of film (08-09) that showed he's not a franchise guy, and they still went with him. Nix's teams are 13-27 in 2+ seasons. So now, they'll grab their guy when it's abundantly clear they need one which provides them another excuse why this rebuild needs more time.
  8. How many mulligans does this guy get before people realize he's fumbling in the dark for the light switch? Taking 4 off-seasons to realize you don't have a solid QB on the roster is the most egregious example of a bad GM. This rebuild, at best, is stuck in the mud because Nix can't get things right the first time.
  9. How then did Polian rebuild Carolina so quickly? The man's rebuilt three franchises in the span of 20 years. That's no fluke, it's a trend.
  10. Dalton's Bengals made the playoffs last year. It comes down to the situation that young QB inherits and how he's supported. Good teams take QB's and put talent around him or already have some. In Tannehill's case, he went into an offense similar to what was run in college. Fact is, 1st and 2nd year QB's can and do make the playoffs. You then hope they build from that and improve. Few NFL rookies at any position have their best season that first year.
  11. Is Jeff George still available?
  12. Easley not being added to an active roster during his time on the PS should tell everyone how the other 31 teams view his talent. The Potter experiment meanwhile lasts half a season, which is another indicator that Nix and Gailey aren't the slam dunk personnel evaluators some make them out to be.
  13. Well, Whitehurst fits with the Bills trend of acquiring QB's on their third career club. That's worked out so well during Nix's tenure.
  14. Jauron was 7-9 in 06, 07, and 08. He was fired in 09 after going 3-6, which put him at 24-33 in about 3.5 seasons, or winning 42% of his games. Gailey is 13-27 while accepting as big a rebuild and would need to go 11-6 in his next 17 games to equal DJ. Barring a miracle, Gailey will be back.
  15. I'd like to see them have options to take any of the top QB prospects as well. It's alarming that in the Nix risk-averse mindset how he stands pat and doesn't maneuver on draft day. So unless Nix changes his tune and is willing to move up, then we're left with picking from lesser talents. And that only works if you have talent evaluators who are versed in their trade. Right now, that doesn't seem to be the case with the 2010 and 2011 drafts.
  16. He is paid by the organization and as such rarely criticizes. But I'd agree, that's pretty weak to highlight success from a game like that.
  17. This is the same franchise that started the "continuity" narrative in the wake of DJ's 1-9 finish to the 2008 season. I sincerely don't think the powers that be want to make further changes, even though they have to know Nix's rebuild has failed. And so the status quo is the path of least resistance and Nix/Gailey return in 2013.
  18. Of all people, Marvin Lewis figured the Bills offense out last year in Week 4. It's been downhill offensively against the big boys since then.
  19. Why did I shave down to a goatee?
  20. The lack of talent is on Nix and that front office he's assembled. Gailey has some responsibility, but not nearly as much. But it's good to know Nix has committed to Gailey for another season with half a season left.
  21. You can almost predict a Fitz pick.
  22. Using the middle of the field. Color me impressed.
  23. George Wilson benched for Searcy?
  24. Andre Johnson hasn't been the same this season, but still good enough to toast Williams.
