  1. . . . . no matter how long he plays in the league or what he does or does not accomplish. If he dies seventy years from now, the first line of his obituary will be , "Nathan Peterman, who threw five interceptions in his first half of football, died today at the age of ninety-three." He might as well make "Fivepicks" his middle name and get it tattooed on his forehead. This is just an observation, not a value judgment. That one half of football will hang around his neck unless and until he does something spectacular like win a Super Bowl, and even then it will be the first thing any story about him, even one praising him, will start with. Granted, it can't be denied that he did the deed; he was trying to be the anti-Tyrod and he erred in the other direction, disastrously. There have been QBs in the league who have less to offer but had decent careers--that's my opinion, not some universal truth. But it's kind of a drag to contemplate having a single afternoon characterize you for the rest of your career. Allen is suffering something similar, where the conventional wisdom of his abilities or non-abilities--completion percentage, for instance--is the story line that he will have to fight against for a long time. But in his case I don't think it's quite as large an albatross.
  2. I questioned the wisdom of Beane throwing away a pro bowl left tackle. At the very least the tackles would be solid and they could concentrate on the interior. I also don't see how switching out Dareus for Louteleli was a good move. Beane CREATED those holes at DT and WR by getting rid of starters for chump change.
  3. I really fear his play is going to fall off a cliff this season. 30-year-old running backs typically do. His YPC last season was the lowest of his career. Injuries tend to happen more often to older backs. I think Murphy is going to be carrying the load by mid-season. They need to have younger backups.
  4. I'm with the man who knows what "apodictic" means.
  5. I did not like the pick but i'm coming along to your point of view.
  6. Punctuation is a lost art. It makes me ill when I see so many people put an apostrophe in a simple plural noun. Instead of "dogs" it's "dog's"; instead of "Bills" it's "Bill's." "The Buffalo Bill's." Just shoot me now. ******* As far as the QB thing and Allen go, it's interesting to see the many vehemently held opinions. I was skeptical about Allen but he's shown some things that are remarkable. But I'm not ready to say he should be starting. As McDermott said, you want the rest of the team believing that the man playing QB is their best chance to win. When the team believes that—not you or me—then the change will be inevitable.
  7. Let them laugh. It's so patently wrong that they aren't worth listening to.
  8. Based only on this game, I agree with you--and I am someone who has been skeptical about this team's chances this season. They looked well coached and both Peterman and AJ looked like NFL QBs. Allen looked better than his stat line would indicate. If the team can continue to grow they will do better than expected. I was overall impressed with the offense, and troubled about the defense. But it's early yet.
  9. I expect them to throw for more yards per game but to turn the ball over much more than Tyrod did. I couldn't tell you whether the point differential between the Bills and their opponents will be worse or better.
  10. I appreciated what McD had to say about Benjamin and his comments on Cam Newton. The right attitude.
  11. I think about this sometimes. I think this is something that occurs to you when you get older. Sometimes when I'm seeing yet another post excoriating Doug Whaley as if he burned down the fan's house or stole his wife, I think about what is so frustrating in people's lives to make them invest so much in, as Jerry Seinfeld famously said, "laundry."
  12. These fans that are all "Don't say nothin' bad about my boy Josh!" are tiresome.
  13. This is not true. Norwood missed a LOT of kicks, crucial ones, during the season, but the team covered for him. Look at that Denver game the Bills came back to win in the fourth quarter. Norwood missed TWO extra points in situations that theoretically could have cost them the game except the defense bailed them out with turnovers and touchdowns.
  14. Norwood missed a lot of kicks that season even before he missed in the Super Bowl. I remember being furious that he missed those extra points.
  15. Unless McCarron of Peterman plays lights out, the Bills need to know by the end of this season whether Allen is able to play. But I suppose, having invested so much in drafting him, they are committed to him whether he plays this season or not. They are not likely to draft another QB high next spring regardless.
  16. If he's so prejudiced toward the Jags, why did he pick them to have a losing season last year? There's a lot of illogical BS posted on this board.
  17. Agree. I have been worried about running back even before McCoy's recent public problem with his ex-girlfriend. It seems to me Beane & McDermott have taken a lot for granted in assembling this list of runners. One thing Whaley always did was bring in YOUNG undrafted or low-drafted free agent runners who were talented and could surprise. I think if for whatever reason Shady can't play, this running game could fall off a cliff.
  18. Not in Prisco's predictions. He picks the Jets to win only two games, finishing behind the Bills with the worst record in the league.
  19. It's not a ridiculous prediction. Of course a lot of things are going to happen before then.
  20. Some day it has to happen.
  21. You said it. I have been living in NC since 1982 and I can count the times I have been to Charlotte on the fingers of one hand. There's much more to see and do in the Triangle, or in Wilmington, or the Outer Banks, or the Blue Ridge and Asheville. They should move Charlotte to South Carolina.
  22. I lived in KC for five years and it has it all over Buffalo, I am afraid.
