  1. Not only ridiculous, but obvious. All anyone needs to do is look at the relative lack of progress in telecom up to January 8th, 1982 compared with the explosion of innovation between then and 2015 to see exactly what government regulation of the telecom industry did versus what deregulation did. People need to stop making this a political issue, and should always support keeping federal regulators out of it. And since when has government ever needed to prove anything before seizing regulatory power over something?
  2. The only plus as I see it is that I may get to run into Lennie James somewhere here in town. What a great actor he is. I hope he'll be back on the original series - Morgan is one of the best acted and most compelling characters in the show. I had no idea that any filming for "Fear" was done here in Austin.
  3. Score another for equality! Whitey has the Klan, people of color have idiots like this. Perhaps the Earth will open up and swallow them all some day.
  4. I say that tongue-in-cheek, but oversight does lead to taxation, which leads to regulation of both availability and content, which opens the door to censorship, so it's not as radical a notion as some might believe.
  5. That must be why they want to maintain federal control of the web.
  6. Thank you. Well stated, and absolutely correct. You have no idea how refreshing it is for me to see/hear/read anyone saying any of that. Cheers! ANY upcoming civil war will be one of massive ignorance. I'm a bit surprised we aren't already in the middle of one already.
  7. I certainly wouldn't want to experience any precipitation from a cloud like that.
  8. Bill? I don't remember any bill. I do remember a proclamation of takeover by the former head of the FCC.
  9. That would be great - I sure would appreciate it if he did.
  10. I may just page back to the previous threads and cut & paste what I said back then. Keep government out of the net. Period.
  11. Ah, but they only keep those of us busy who give any credence to what they say.
  12. While I share your sentiments in principle, if I was in charge of the league, I'd keep all the players in the locker room until after the anthem, taking away their ability to act like assclowns and preventing them from using the games as vehicles for making political statements of any kind. Welcome to the dungeon!
  13. Well, at least they're able to draw the line somewhere.
  14. Remember when the libs sang this to Bush at Obama's inauguration? It struck me as being particularly classless:
  15. She doesn't appear to be getting much sympathy from the left, either. No appearances on night time talk shows, nothing. It sure looks like it's taken a toll on her, too.
  16. The principle here is simple: This generation of kids must be protected like none other. They can't use tools, they can't play on grass, and they certainly can't be expected to work through a spat with a friend. And this, it could be argued, is why we have "safe spaces" on college campuses and millennials missing adult milestones today. We told a generation of kids that they can never be too safe—and they believed us. No, we have "safe spaces" because of things like participation trophies and time out. The behavior quoted above will lead to significantly lamer teens and young adults than we have now.
  17. Nobody seems to appreciate that one sleazebag resigning will only make way for the next sleazebag to move in and take over. If someone holding political office commits a criminal offense, then sure - toss them out on their ass. If no actual crime has been committed, then fire them at the ballot box.
  18. No, he should have to be voted out of office. Personally, I can't stand the guy, but if that's who Minnesotans want as a Senator, then so be it. I didn't need to see this story to know that Franken's a dick. So he did and said some typically boorish sh#t - so has an ever-growing number of elected officials at all levels, including the president. I do not want elected officials removed based on the potential veracity of ex post facto accusations or innuendo. Just vote the bastard out.
  19. To be honest, I may have spoken too soon. It's been brought to my attention that Taylor Swift's music has had a positive impact on Tardigrades, which are important to at least a small segment of special needs students, and are also apparently voracious Bills fans. I mean, who knew? I certainly didn't - but in retrospect I'm not surprised at the revelation.
  20. Fair warning for the people at Marie Claire: If you put me in a position where I find myself openly supporting Taylor Swift, I'm going to be pissed.
  21. At least you're libertarian left - left and right isn't as much of an issue with me as libertarian vs authoritarian is. (once again I find myself really missing the beer emoji)
