Is SDS out there rioting in the streets?

I don't think that he understands capitalism as well as he may think he does. -
A Sanders announcement 'within days'?

I almost just choked on my burger. -
Not many people seem to remember that. There was a controversy over how many people were or weren't killed in the explosion, as well as sensitive or classified technology that was never found in the wreckage. Clinton supporters all dismissed it as a right wing scare tactic.

The dangers of our new normal...
Azalin replied to Deranged Rhino's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Indeed. Like me, you are beginning to see the light. I didn't realize how paranoid I was being when I began the thread against net neutrality. Government involvement in the internet is obviously all about fairness, and because of the web, we're all even more free than we were before. If the Feds happen to do a little checking up on us along the way, who cares? I mean, if we're not doing anything wrong, then what have we to worry about....right? -

"Civil liberties groups fear that such far-reaching and unchecked power could be used simply to quell dissent. That’s exactly what happened in August 2011 when officials of Northern California’s Bay Area Rapid Transit system utilized its kill switch to temporarily shut off cellphone service in several subway stations. The shutdown wasn’t in response to a terrorist threat. Its purpose was to prevent a demonstration that organizers planned to hold in those stations protesting a fatal subway shooting by a BART police officer." Impossible. According to our resident genius, you're just being paranoid. -
There's another one called Barry Whitesnake.

"But despite my color, gender, economic standing, sexual preference or any other imaginable category, I refuse to let the world define me by of what they see on the outside. That’s something progressives always insist on doing." -
I know what you mean. I was on my way to see my cardiologist when I was cut off by a Fox7 News van, forcing us both off the highway and into a ravine. Did they cover it on the evening news? Of course not. The swine.

It was obviously a slow news day - no terrorist attacks, nuclear arms deals, presidential candidates, or anything else newsworthy to report.

Seriously, is that the best you can do? Are you suggesting that he actually thinks? -
It's better than smuggling uranium in your butt - that'll give you atomic piles.

Your insults are pathetic. I deserve better than a poorly worded DC Tomism. Do you own a dictionary? They're available online, you know. Everyone here knows that if this was a republican administration, you'd be going berserk over the surveillance activity that's going on, so that makes all of your arguments even more ridiculous. The only thing I fear in all this is that one day you'll wake up and realize that there's more to debate than just glibly tossing out a bunch of crap that makes no sense. So please, feel free to continue. I'll continue to laugh at you. -
I remember one time when Aerosmith was playing at Stage One (some time around '78-'81), they were billed as Dr Jay Jones and the Interns. Blue Oyster Cult used to play clubs to test their new material under one of the earlier names: The Soft White Underbelly. That's actually a pretty cool name, especially coming from a band member's mom - kudos to her! The band that I'm in now was first formed in early 2009, and we rehearsed for months without picking a name (you know how it is, trying to find a name that everyone in the band actually likes). We play some lyrically dark stuff, and the music is pretty much old-school metal (no subgenre like 'black/death/stoner/etc). After months of trying to come up with something we all liked, our vocalist said 'how about.....Blood For Master'? We all liked it, despite that it's a bit over-the-top. The only ting that kind of sucks about it is that a couple years after we began performing around Austin, a band called Goatwhore released an album called Blood For The Master, so now any google search on us is festooned with Goatwhore links.

Maybe so, but anyone who was politically aware throughout the 90's will remember the Clintons' ability to pin accusations of wrongdoing on that 'vast right wing conspiracy'. I think it's going to take hard evidence of Hillary's involvement in any of this, plus having all major media outlets turn on her, to derail her candidacy. Hopefully I'm wrong, but we'll see.

What I'm enjoying is watching Gator defend such a right-wing position as domestic surveillance. Raging lefties should be vehemently against such intrusions into personal privacy by the state, not defending it. Despite the endless entertainment his insipid contributions provide, the real laugh I'm getting out of all this is that he's completely willing to sell out his own supposed 'values' just to argue, which makes this just about the funniest thread in PPP history. -
Those highlighted portions read like something Gator would write.

Many years ago I was in a band that played at the same place every week, but under a different name each time. The ones I can remember: The Savage Nuns Eelface and the Flying Tushees Two Dandy Plumbers Kneecaps, Spleens, and Eddie Runs in Hoses The Nude Fish

Average Income Lower Than Previous Year
Azalin replied to Dorkington's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
As far as I know 100% of Romney's income was from capital gains, which is taxed at a lower rate than 'regular' income. A huge portion of wealth generated by capital gains is in the average schmoe's investment/retirement accounts. To say that the vast majority that benefits from a lower capital tax rate are the wealthy seems to me to be a mischaracterization.
