Gay Marriage everywhere, mass hysteria ensues
Azalin replied to John Adams's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
That's the way I see it. I do believe it should have been left up to the individual states, but yes, I believe you're right. Yes, but good luck getting altar boys. -
From what I understand, the people who operate the gun show itself have pretty strict rules with which sellers need to comply. To be honest, in the 26 years I've lived in Texas, I have never once heard of any crimes being committed by anyone using a gun that was purchased at a gun show. I can guarantee that these events are not host to thugs and gangsters. There are far too many rednecks there to allow that kind of crap to happen.

It depends on where he got the gun. If he purchased it from a dealer, then a background check should have been performed on him, in which case he broke the law by passing it along to you. If he purchased it from a private citizen selling guns, then no background check was required, and the deal was kosher. At least that's how I understand it. To elaborate a bit, here in Texas there are gun dealers - the ones that own the mom & pop firearms stores, and there's a lot of them here. dealers make up the majority of people selling weapons at gun shows. These shows attract a lot of people - hunters, collectors, people interested in home security, etc. They're usually held once a month for one weekend. Besides the dealers present, there are also private citizens like you and me; folks that may have weapons of all kinds for sale - civil war weaponry, hunting rifles, bayonets, etc. These people are far outnumbered by the dealers. Since they don't deal in weapons professionally, they're not required to have a Federal Firearms License, and are not required to perform background checks on buyers. Beyond that, I'd need to do research on the subject, since I'm not a gun enthusiast nor do I own any firearms.

This goes back at least 20 or 25 years ago, and is probably the first issue in the battle for legalized same-sex marriage. I remember in the early-mid 90's when this first became an issue. Lots of insurance plans wouldn't cover a same-sex partner since they weren't technically a spouse. Of course there was more than just insurance coverage involved - inheritance and other issues I can't recall right now were part of it as well. -
One is a floor wax, the other a dessert topping.

If dealers are selling firearms without doing background checks, then they need to be arrested and do time. The vast majority of dealers at gun shows comply with the law and do not sell any firearms without running a background check. The only people at gun shows & flea markets not required to perform background checks are private citizens.

Yes, but the rest of us would have been deprived of some pretty entertaining reading.

"Congress passed the Affordable Care Act to improve health insurance markets, not to destroy them," Roberts wrote, adding that nationwide availability of the credits is required to "avoid the type of calamitous result that Congress plainly meant to avoid." If Congress had to 'pass it in order to know what's in it', how can Roberts claim to know what Congress' intent 'plainly' was?

Doesn't the Pontifical Swiss Guard still purchase weaponry? -
Well then, please let me know if you ever think you might try making something like a 24 fret Stratocaster. I've always wanted one of those.

Former Governor (and later Senator) Ernest Hollings was a major factor in SC first raising that flag over the State House as part of a celebration of the centennial anniversary of the war. http://americanpowerblog.blogspot.com/2015/06/democrat-governor-fritz-hollings-first.html

Just so we're all on the same page with this argument, I presume that everybody does realize that the confederate flag in question is not the actual confederate flag, but the battle flag designed to avoid confusion between the 'stars & stripes' and the 'stars & bars'? I can't help but suspect that an awful lot of the protestors have no clue about that. I think it's interesting how new meaning can be assigned to an existing symbol, and then the symbol is vilified for what it then represents. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flags_of_the_Confederate_States_of_America

RIP and badly missed. My favorite material of his was when he was a bit less angry, and pointed out all the ridiculous things we do (also NSFW) well, I might have brought my arrowhead collection.... -
It's odd to read that one only person died of the plague.

I was a Supreme Court ruling. Not even Ronald Reagan had the power to overrule them.

Wasn't there a case just last week where a woman was killed by her ex during the mandatory waiting period? In fact, her ex stabbed her to death with a knife. Had she been armed, she'd have had a better chance of surviving.

You're the one frustrated that racism and guns play less of a role than do mental illness and evil in this case. Are you forgetting that Adam Lanza, perpetrator of one of the worst mass murders in American history was supposed to be on medication when he stole his mother's gun before killing her and all those teachers and children. Roof may well not have been identified as being mentally ill before he killed those people. He'd better pray that he IS found to be insane, because there are a lot of people who would support bringing back the chair for that sicko. I chose my avatar because it was done by a popular artist from Buffalo (Mike Mararian) from a series called 'Inky Dreadfuls', and it's entitled 'The Grave Digger's Orphan'. By the way - I don't have an 'attachment to guns'. I don't even own one. If I sound frustrated, consider who it is that I'm talking to. Is 'stupid' the best you've got?
