  1. ....data encryption is a valuable tool....
  2. I like how people are getting caught up in poll results right now, with a small army of potential republicans vying with each other for the nomination, and the presidential election a little more than 16 months away. Once the parties have their nominees, there's still plenty of time for anything to happen, so polls, at this time, are fairly meaningless.
  3. I think you're right about this - at least to a point. I've seen several times on the news where someone was convicted of petty theft or other minor offenses and were sentenced to stand at a busy intersection holding a sign that said "I was caught (fill in the crime)". The people looked miserable. I'm sure the appearance of a news crew made it even worse. I do believe though that a lot of people are completely without shame, and would feel like they were getting off easy with such a sentence. I also believe that if public shaming were to become a more frequent method of punishment, that we'd soon see advocate groups spring up protesting the act of shaming as 'robbing the individual of his/her dignity'.
  4. It would be interesting to see the effect public shaming would have on people nowadays. On one hand you'd have human rights advocates up in arms, demanding that offenders be treated with 'dignity', and on the other hand you'd have offenders who are already without shame, not caring or feeling any embarrassment at all over their sentence.
  5. She looks to me like she's trying to pass herself off as Sideshow Bob.
  6. Old? I'm right there with you on both counts, old man.
  7. But given the choice, there are professionals and there are professionals.
  8. If not the Chinese, then I imagine the NSA could dig through their metadata.
  9. It looks like it's time to dust off this old thread - anyone seen the IRS's latest tactic for stalling on handing over Lerner's emails? "Attorneys from the Department of Justice representing the IRS say the emails won’t be shared because the service is making sure that none of them are duplicates." http://www.foxbusiness.com/industries/2015/06/15/irs-finds-6400-lois-lerner-emails-but-wont-hand-em-over/
  10. "So, yes, Mr. Seinfeld, we college students are politically correct. We will call out sexism and racism if we hear it. But if you're going to come to my college and perform in front of me, be prepared to write up a set that doesn't just offend me, but has something to say." If you don't want a comic to say something, just don't laugh when they say it. What gall someone has to have to feel the need to impose boundaries on comedic content, 'calling out' comedians who dare broach taboo subject matter. What a fine bunch of totalitarians these kids will make.
  11. I can't remember where I read it, but in the Hammer Films version of 'The Mummy', there's a scene where the Mummy bursts through a doorway, knocking the door off its hinges. Apparently Christopher Lee dislocated his shoulder busting through the door, but continued filming the scene, carrying off the heroine into a bog. What a badass he was.
  12. Which means that she probably went to school here at UT? You ought to bring here back here for a week/weekend and immerse yourselves in the local barbecue and margarita culture. I'll take you two out one evening if you do.
  13. And it should fuel speculation - if it's a simple trade deal, why are its contents and those that support it proprietary information?
  14. This from 'the most transparent administration in history'.
  15. Not according to what detractors say about Clarence Thomas.
  16. http://youtu.be/-NSz-9qqgKE Strange days have found us Strange days have tracked us down They're going to destroy Our casual joys We shall go on playing Or find a new town Yeah! Strange eyes fill strange rooms Voices will signal their tired end The hostess is grinning Her guests sleep from sinning Hear me talk of sin And you know this is it Yeah! Strange days have found us And through their strange hours We linger alone Bodies confused Memories misused As we run from the day To a strange night of stone
  17. Good find - I saw that last night and was looking for a link to it, but comedy central didn't have one posted.
  18. Sad news, but he had a long, full life and left behind a massive legacy for us to enjoy for years to come. RIP, Mr. Lee.
  19. Reminds me of this old favorite: http://youtu.be/tMe3WDmxBEI
  20. um....are you suggesting that Germans are fine with the post WWII occupation of half of their nation? And you say I'm the one who's brainwashed? It's a bit of a conversation stopper, isn't it?
  21. To remind us that Gator's got competition.
  22. Yep, good old stone-age Texas, #1 economy and fastest growing state in the nation. Are there any lefties in the US that aren't bitter and angry all the time?
