  1. This is way too difficult to decide, but right off the top of my head - short - The Outsider not so short - The Case of Charles Dexter Ward honorable mention - The Whisperer in Darkness edit - I have to add From Beyond, Shadow Over Innsmouth, Imprisoned With the Pharaohs, The Thing on the Doorstep, and Herbert West: Reanimator. There are so many others. Lovecraft is by far my first choice for horror.
  2. Oh no? http://youtu.be/5ea5jKFGgUw
  3. not all are scary looking - check out this newly discovered one: https://youtu.be/BAuMg2h_sDk and then there's this tasty Spanish dish - Pulpo ala Gallega: sliced octopus, boiled, then briefly broiled on a bed of sliced potatoes with olive oil and Spanish paprika.
  4. Stop obfuscating.
  5. Around the world? The thermometers in the southern hemisphere are registering the warmest winter ever?
  6. That is awesome. Thank you. That's the best laugh I've had all week.
  7. Had you actually been trying to discuss it, you could have always asked instead of making such snobbish assumptions. For the sake of clarification, I'm referring to Dublin, Belfast, and Madrid, not exactly 3rd world cities.
  8. That makes more sense than what Julius Jones was saying.
  9. Have you ever considered the possibility that broadband service in rural Virginia may not quite measure up to that of the more urban areas? For example, here in Austin, many of us can get 1G bandwidth delivered to our homes for no more than $70 per month. No, it must be that poor old Az stays in crappy hotels. How can someone who's read the classics be such an ignorant chud?
  10. “And when people say ‘all lives matter,’ it’s a violent statement, because the only time that people say ‘all lives matter’ is in opposition to ‘black lives matter,’ and it’s the most violent statement of love that you can do,” he said. Violent statement of love? What the hell is that supposed to mean?
  11. Apparently we stay in sh##ty hotels, too.
  12. Blow it out your tailpipe. They may not be 5-star, but I always stay in nice places.
  13. I'd like to know where they were when they experienced this superior internet speed. I'm sure there are some pretty decent places around Europe to connect, but again, by my experiences in Europe I found the broadband speeds to be rather lacking. Try streaming a movie in your hotel room or surfing using a public hotspot some time.
  14. Of which we have more than our fair share.
  15. Nice. I won't be eating lunch today.
  16. I don't believe that's a fair assessment of how conservatives think. I would agree with you in part, but I think a more accurate description of the conservative mindset is that successful people got that way in part by being smart, working hard, sticking with their goals after experiencing failure, and not giving up. I've known a handful of wealthy people who had financial independence by being born into it, but I've known many more that got that way by working for it, and spending many years of their lives in doing so. Persistence is as much of an element of success in the conservative (and libertarian too) mind as anything else, if not the most important. I don't really see how morality has a direct effect on a person's success. The poor are that way for a reason. Either they're down on their luck, are incapable of effectively taking care of themselves, or are satisfied living off public assistance. There's no way to legislate luck, so getting around bad luck takes persistence in trying to better one's self. People incapable of taking care of themselves should always have public assistance to help them at least have a decent quality of life - I don't think anyone here, no matter how conservative they are, would deny them that. When it comes to those who are satisfied doing nothing but getting by on welfare, their assistance should be limited so they are eventually forced to go out into the workplace. There are plenty of grants and guaranteed student loans that will assist them in going to a tech school, trade school, or community college. They have all the same opportunities that a typical American working class person has in getting ahead in life.
  17. I don't know how they come up with that stuff - you have to be living under a rock to be unaware of the dire economic conditions in Greece. Italy is doing better, but they're still hurting. I've been to Spain numerous times, and I can tell you from personal experience that their economy, while improving very slightly over recent months, is still deep in the crapper. Madrid's middle class is comparable in their standard of living to our welfare class. I've found that most of the people here who tout European-style socialism haven't been there to experience it for themselves.
  18. Travis County (Texas) ranks at 279. Not bad for a place where the grass is brown all summer long.
  19. I was holding out judgement until he was actually charged, but now that he's copped a guilty plea, it's time to lock him up & throw away the key.
  20. How can that not give anyone nightmares?
  21. That's pretty much been my philosophy since the Carter administration. It's not that I'm pro-republican, I'm anti-socialist.
