American killed at Olympics, another injured
Fezmid replied to Beerball's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I don't know -- in Atlanta, it was random. Here, the guy was specifically targetting someone. I'd say this one is slightly worse overall. -

There's more to it than just software -- there's hardware components to it as well. I'd say that $300 is a bit much -- but I had my projector calibrated for about $150 and it was money well spent. Maybe not worth it for a $1000 TV, but if you have a really nice setup, why skimp? Just make sure you're getting someone reputable who is doing a good job
-
Well if it's being calibrated properly, they use tools that you probably don't have at home. You can get "close enough" on your own, but when I calibrated my projector they put sensors on the screen to measure the colors and brightness and such and were able to tweak it with software.

One major problem with the Harmony is that it has to communicate with their servers when you're setting it up -- meaning Logitech (the company that makes the remote) has access to know every peice of electronics you own in your house to use for marketing research. You can't download an application and use it standalone on your PC from what I've read. I prefer Home Theater Master - it takes a bit more work to setup, but doesn't violate privacy rights and is actually much more flexible if you want to customize things better.

Move the party to the arena!

They put on an absolutely AMAZING Xmas show -- good for all ages, from 2 to 90. My wife's grandmother (85 or so) had a great time a few years back. http://www.trans-siberian.com/ontour/index.php

They have those covers in the Pro Football HoF too. I had the first game -- ended up making a computer simulation league out of it with friends. Had all 28 teams (at the time) with a human owner, a full draft (including OL!), trades, the works. Took a lot of work, but it was a ton of fun, especially getting all 28 people over for a draft.

I just bought a Panny 42" Plasma. I'll let you know how it looks once it's setup, but Frys had it for $840, delivered (Best Buy had it for $1000 + tax....).

He meant that resellerratings.com was mentioned there....

Do you have a full-sized spare in the trunk? If not, you could toss the bad tire, use one of the 30k mile tires for a spare, and buy 4 new ones. Just a thought.

I was going to suggest the same thing - hire it out. Unless you enjoy doing yard work as a hobby, it's just not worth the time IMHO.
-
The other thing is that even if you can shoot 5fps, you really need a fast lens for sports too -- otherwise you will still get blurry pictures. Sports photography is really expensive...

Regardless of whether it's legal or not, do you want to alienate your wife's friend?
-
Exactly. At $3k a lawsuit, and almost every pays up because it'll cost far more to fight it even if you're innocent, it's been reported multiple times that the RIAA is making a fortune on this. In addition, the way they go about doing the lawsuits is lame -- the judges literally just rubber stamp all of the requests without reading them. Money, err, justice at work.
-
Can you find any proof to back up those claims, or are you just making it up? If she never bought a computer, how'd her kids get one....? If she never bought a computer, why does she have an ISP...?
-
Do you love it when they sue people who have never even used a computer before too? http://news.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=08/07/05/0210220 Or how about when they do this? http://news.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=08/06/13/1156218 There's no justice being done with their shotgun approach, regardless of which side of the fence you stand.

Here: "A new rock group featuring former members of The Clash and Generation X has taken a novel approach to the issue of piracy by urging their fans to copy their music." " http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4683875.stm And here: http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1565749/2...727/stars.jhtml And here: "Only 2,500 copies of this record were produced; in response, Lee and Moody encouraged fans to download the band's older songs from the Internet" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evanescence Not quite the same, but shows that artists don't particularly like the RIAA: http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2007/jun/29/business.pop Yes, this isn't "most" bands - I just took the first few results from my search - but there are a LOT of bands out there with the same sentiment. As was discussed earlier in the thread, the artists don't get much from the record sales - it's from other merchandise and shows. So, if the band who made the music says "Please download our music" (and means it), but the label still says no, then what do you think?

Excellent point! If you own a Canon, you should own this lens: http://www.amazon.com/Canon-50mm-1-8-Camer...2453&sr=8-1 (and if you want to go higher end -- the quality of this lens is fantastic - http://www.amazon.com/Canon-Standard-Mediu...2453&sr=8-2

If you like to travel, you might be interested in this lens: http://www.amazon.com/Canon-70-300mm-4-5-5...0678&sr=8-1 It's a little expensive, but it's awesome having a 300mm walkaround lens that you can use without a tripod. Here's some pics I took at the San Diego zoo: http://www.fezam.com/gallery/view_album.ph...ame=SanDiegoZoo As for the other lens you were looking at -- I'd say that the 17-55 is a better lens than the 17-40; it's much faster and has a longer reach. I hvae no experience with either of them, but the 17-55 is on my wish list

Others have talked about the scam, so I won't get into that. B&H is top notch -- plus once you buy from them, they send you a really nice full-color catalog once or twice a year. I like it. Keep in mind that you can call and negotiate with them as well. When I bought my 3CCD camcorder years ago, I got them to knock a couple hundred off the price which was cool. Amazon is also awesome - as always

BlueFire already pointed this out -- but go ahead and find ONE post where I say downloading music is fine. Just one. I hate the RIAA - they're evil in that they shoot first and ask questions later, knowing that they have more money than normal Joe Users and when it looks like they're going to lose the case, they drop it and restart it again costing innocent families tens of thousands in defense money - but yes, downloading music is and should be llegal (I just disagree with the penalties and the RIAA's methods). Remember, you're the one who said that downloading an album reduces the value of the 1,000,000 albums by 1 -- which is more correct than being able to sue someone for $3.3M.
