Reported: Schwartz will be leaving the Bills
cale replied to Uffalo Ills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Schwartz wants a head coaching gig. Hard to do that when even if he is the DC - the credit will be to Ryan's defense. -
Report: John Fox could be fired [Update: He is]
cale replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I expect Fox will end up in ATL. He still has strong ties in NC. I also expect the Jets and Bears will make a run at him. He's exactly what the Bears need. C -
Could Peyton Manning possibly be available?
cale replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Manning is a smart guy. He's playing hurt. I bet it's the neck thing. He was playing like someone who didn't want to aggravate something that could have a long lasting effect. He has everything. He should walk away relatively healthy and get into coaching. Selfishly, it would be amazing if he signed with the Bills, but for his sake - i hope he doesn't. C -
Meanwhile @ Gang Green: Jets fans react
cale replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You know perspective. We hated Rex and everything he stood for too when he was coaching against us. On and off the field. Now, I am not sure what to think. I think he's the best coach we'll have since Wade Phillips for sure. I just hope we don't become the bottom of the barrel in terms of class as an organization. I hope The Pegulas can keep him in line off the field. This was obviously a move to keep us relevant and make life miserable for Tommy Boy twice a season. On the whole, you can't argue we got the best coach available. C -
Excellent QB's from schools that aren't football powerhouses

Does anyone have thoughts on Taylor Heinicke (sp?) from Old Dominion? He seems to have all the intangibles. His competition has been suspect, but man I love the way he plays. http://hamptonroads.com/2014/12/odus-taylor-heinicke-signs-famed-nfl-agent I know he's with Steinberg - but I met Chris Cabott a couple of times. Nice guy. -
Redskins make potentially brilliant GM hire...

Recovery is hard. I hope he stays on the wagon. DC is a drinking town. For sure. -

What happened in Detroit for Schwartz? Systemic or unique?
cale replied to NickelCity's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Schwartz is a tool and wears his emotions on his sleeves. He considers himself a "rock n roll" rebel type guy. But the word on the street here in Nashville was that Jeff Fisher was gonna let him go before he got his HC job in Detroit. All worked out for Schwartz. He's a good DC. But needs a strong coach or FO type to keep him in line. C -
Polian would've hired AJ Smith As GM if accepted front office job
cale replied to K-Apps's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The article I read said he would have "considered a job" - not clear if that meant GM. Who knows. Still, I'm glad he isn't coming. http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/12111665/washington-redskins-enhance-aj-smith-role -
Amen! I really like the guy. I don't have any proof, but I have a feeling most of our troubles per coach, QB pick - was due to Buddy Nix. I seem to recall Buddy had final say in personnel decisions.

If Schwartz walks if we hire someone else as HC, I think Pepper Johnson would be fine as DC. He's gotten so much production out of the defensive line. The talent was there before, but this year they were on fire!

Bills may be in the worst bind ever
cale replied to bananathumb's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, I don't know. Owner gets an opportunity to bring in his guys and run the ship his way. Everybody needs to get on the same page. Obvious Marrone wasn't. I like Whaley - a lot. It's easy to second guess everything in hindsight. But given what he knew at the time, I think he made the right call. There are gonna be some adequate QBs available this off season in FA and trade. What scares me is the O-line. Hopefully we can fix the interior enough to give a QB more than 2 secs. We also need someone mobile *and* accurate. C -
If they keep Hackett - they're dumber than I thought. I'd be surprised if the Pegulas let Marrone keep him.
-
Alex Van Pelt has been doing a good job in Green Bay. He has experience in a system that seems to know how to get the best out of weak O-lines. Also they do a good job developing QBs.

Cutler Benched; Clausen to Start at QB for Bears on Sunday
cale replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'll defer to your expertise on Cousins then. Who do you like on a current roster that isn't an obvious starter. I'm also intrigued by Old Dominion's Taylor Heinecke. C -

I know I'm gonna get killed for saying this...But we're Kirk Cousins, two decent guards and one halfway competent OC away from challenging for a championship. There's talent on this offense. Just utter lack of creativity in terms of how to use them. For the record, I think the Redskins are one dysfunctional franchise. They're a clustersuck right now. Even Colt McCoy has struggled prior to his injury. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/football-insider/wp/2014/12/17/kirk-cousins-ive-learned-from-my-mistakes/ EJ is way to inaccurate for my tastes. Cousins isn't the long term answer. But he has a good combination of leadership, accuracy, athleticism and football intelligence. Right now I'm guessing he would be available for a 4th or 5th round pick. The 2nd round pick in the 2015 draft has to be a for a top notch guard. I would then use our 2016 1st pick on a QB to groom behind whomever ends up leading the charge next year. C -
Bills awarded TE MarQueis Gray from Vikings
cale replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
TE? Never mind tight end. Kid looks like he can play QB! -
This article about the game this weekend being moved to Monday in Detroit has an interesting side note: http://mmqb.si.com/2014/11/21/bills-jets-detroit-snow-week-12-nfl/ "Brandon was in Florida, formulating future plans with the new Bills owners, Terry and Kim Pegula." Who knows what's a foot. Also interesting that the Pegulas have interest in a record label I'm familiar with here in Nashville called Black River Ent. C

Some thoughts re coaching, the GM and moving forward
cale replied to jahnyc's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree. A new OC is needed. But let's not pretend everything is OK in the front office either. Get football people to run the football side of the ops. And a new czar over the entire organization. Let Brandon do what Brandon does best. Market the team. C -

So that we don't revise history. Marrone was in demand at the time. Buddy thought he was on the verge of being hired by someone else (Cleveland? Philadelphia?). http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/01/01/report-cleveland-buffalo-to-interview-syracuse-coach-doug-marrone/
