Anyone ever take an Amtrak trip?
BringMetheHeadofLeonLett replied to Captain Hindsight's topic in Off the Wall
I've only taken the train up and down the West coast, but I've always had fun. First trip was Portland to LA... I was walking through a car and someone goes, Pat?? - I look and it's my buddy Tim- Tim introduced me to the concept of frosty mugs, and he was THE expert at it. So we end up in the bar car- back when you could smoke like civilized people, and the couple sharing a table with us got into a misunderstanding with themselves. She apparently wasn't too happy with him, and put her cigarette out in that soft-spot between his thumb and fore-finger. It was fun to watch, but didn't sit too well with him. Anyway, they gave them both one last chance to not get thrown off the train. They put her up front, and put him at the back. Somewhere around 3:30 AM there's this chick grunting/screaming as she's running full blast to the back of the train past us in the upper deck. I guess she's the one who broke the pact, because next stop she was standing at a station in the snow, somewhere in the middle of the night, as we kept chugging along. I'm also pretty sure I spent a trip next to David Crosby another time, but we all get to just live sometimes, so I never asked who he was... maybe I sat next to a guy named Bob. I'd definitely get a sleeper car, unless you don't want to sleep so much. It's a very entertaining way to see the USA. -
That a bunch of people calling themselves patriots and draping themselves in the American flag are cheering on the biggest traitor in the history of this nation? This is like going to the blue/red scrimmage at the stadium (same team, different sides), and seeing 30% of the 'fans' got confused and are cheering for New England*****.

Former Sen. Larry Craig Argues His Bathroom Antics Were Part Of His Work March 11, 20133:30 PM ET EYDER PERALTA Twitter Lawyers for former Sen. Larry Craig argued today that using campaign money for a legal defense over his 2007 arrest was proper because he was arrested while on official business. If you recall, Craig, a Republican from Idaho, was arrested during a sting at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. Craig used a bathroom there during a layover, when an undercover officer said Craig sexually solicited him by tapping his foot. Craig pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor but after his case became public he tried to renege. The Federal Elections Commission sued him for using more than $216,000 in campaign money for that legal fight. The Associated Press reportstoday a federal judge "sounded skeptical" over Craig's defense. https://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2013/03/11/174030793/former-sen-larry-craig-argues-his-bathroom-antics-were-part-of-his-work -
If you spent the first half of your life in Buffalo until you got married, then you weren't really a kid during the drought years (if this were West Virginia or Utah it could be a different story). I'm pretty sure he's saying the smaller kids during the drought years never got that 'Hero QB' that the current little fellas get to grow up with. Nothing wrong with his take, but not Earth-shattering. In Chicago, there are literally 2,000 residents who can rightfully believe they had a Hero QB in their childhood.

I want to throw out a massive appreciation nod to Rolanzo. It's not every moment most of us can tune into a football message board and somehow come across a genuine noter of songs. Dude should be writing for Cream -

Most dramatic sports moment you saw?
BringMetheHeadofLeonLett replied to Miyagi-Do Karate's topic in Off the Wall
That's the thing- everyone who followed baseball that year knew the Dodgers had zero chance of winning that series. The A's were brutally stacked, and had easily the best closer in baseball. The dodgers had 1 pitcher and were otherwise old and beat to a pulp. Gibson's homer made the impossible possible- there was no game 7 without that hit, and that's why it makes possibly the most important hit in baseball history all the more amazing- it was game 1. It literally changed the entire series. And Vin Scully to top it off... the man just knew what was important in letting the game play, but when he did speak it was just so poignant. Even the throw away stories were great too- he could've had dinner with a bat boy's grandma, and you'd never want the story to end. -
Recommendations for in-home care?
BringMetheHeadofLeonLett replied to NewEra's topic in Off the Wall
My gal got her Alzheimers mom switched from Medicare to Medicaid (OR state), which has a pretty robust in-home care program (11 hours/day). They also have a private arrangement with a woman who lives in the home and is on call for the nights should something arise. Don't know about NY, but here's a page to start if interested: https://www.health.ny.gov/facilities/home_care/consumer.htm she owns her home, but still qualified due to low enough monthly income- late husband's SS -
