Fred Jackson discusses Marrone vs. Hackett
Rockinon replied to 5 Wide's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
C'mon, you saw EJ buckle under the pressure. He was clearly uncomfortable and that was what ended the hurry up. He was wasting TO's, couldn't make a decisive change at the line. The hurry up was too much too soon for EJ. I do think the hurry up was all Hackett though. A young QB should not be going hurry up until he has a better grasp of the offense. Gotta bring him along more slowly. I also don't think the hurry up needs to be all the time. NE likes to change it up. The often catch us off guard by playing at one pace then all of a sudden it's hurry up and our defense isn't even lined up yet. Then again, maybe you are on to something. Maybe that was Hackett's way to get more control of the offense before Marrone took it away from him. -
Fred Jackson discusses Marrone vs. Hackett
Rockinon replied to 5 Wide's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think if Marrone doesn't find a HC job this year and Buffalo doesn't retain Hackett, he's likely going to have a hard time finding a job. Marrone could be responsible for dragging him down with him. But yes, his name may get him another chance....somewhere. Just kinda irks me because I think he has been doing a decent job and will likely only get better. -
Fred Jackson discusses Marrone vs. Hackett
Rockinon replied to 5 Wide's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The remarks about being more of a man are completely out of line. Hackett can design a play or even call a play as OC. The HC can simply override the decision and there is not a damn thing anyone can do about it because that is what the HC's job is. His say is final. There was much more to the quote, though. I saw more here: http://www.syracuse.com/buffalo-bills/index.ssf/2015/01/fred_jackson_says_doug_marrone_text_felt_like_getting_punched_in_the_stomach.html About half way down the page. -
Fred Jackson discusses Marrone vs. Hackett
Rockinon replied to 5 Wide's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sorry, meant to highlight the part you mentioned about not having anything to do with coaching ability. Fred seemed to imply that Hackett was much more aggressive with play calling than Marrone, which leads me to believe that Marrone was overriding Hackett. Fred seems to like Hackett and I don't think he would say that if it was just about his personality. In other words, I think Fred is specifically talking about his performance as a coach and not just his personality. -
Not sure I agree with this. One thing about Shannahan that no one is discussing is that because he has been around, he'll have a network of coaching staff to choose from. He can bring in a good OC, line coach etc. All of these OC and DC coaches the Bills are interviewing haven't got that kind of clout. They may not be able to draw much interest from around the league. Too early to tell.

I don't believe that at all. Hackett grew up around coaching, even made it his career. I think he is smart and likely able to make smarter decisions than even a good coach who hasn't yet had a chance to evaluate the talent on our roster. He is pretty young though. I don't think he's ready for the next level just yet, as in HCing. But he may be very good with the handcuffs off as an OC. -

That's what I was thinking, too. I would hate to see an up and coming coach get shafted because his hands were tied. However, I do not think he is ready for a head coaching gig just yet. I'd rather simply promote Schartz and let Hackett do his job without restrictions from a control freak. Buffalo could do all of these coaching searches and bring in a HC and still keep Hackett. A head coach like Reich, Bevell, or Gase....even Shanahan might not be a bad thing. What I would like to see is Hackett get another shot, even if it is here. I just hope he has the good sense not to follow Marrone. -
How do you feel right now if you are Sammy Watkins?
Rockinon replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's easy. Sammy feels like F U Marrone. Don't let the door hit you in the arse on your way out. -
Who do you want to be named next Bills HC?
Rockinon replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why roll the dice on a complete offensive make over? It's not really about what I think, though. I'm just throwing in my 2 cents. Not that it's worth anything. I just think it's funny how people get all worked up over a shiny new toy. New coach is more fun to talk about. I guess I'm just trying to look at it from a different perspective. -

So what you are saying is because Hackett has been with Marrone, his philosophies are the same? Sorry, but just speaking from my own personal experiences, I have had many, many mentors. That does not mean that I agree with everything I have learned from each. Hackett is not a clone of Marrone just because he worked under him. This is what annoys me about the way many NFL clubs who seem to make the same analogies. People always seem to be surprised when someone fails in one place only to blow away the competition in another. I just think there is more going on than just one coach's performance or one player's performance for that matter. There are a lot of different ways to look at things. And I am not at all convinced that Hackett is the right decision. I certainly don't have any inside information on the subject, only what I have seen of the concepts for play calling from Hackett. I've actually seen some good things....also some things things I don't approve of. I would just like to see discussion on something that perhaps no one has thought of. People have a tendency around here to see what happens on the field and immediately say "The QB stinks", "The OL stinks" or "The coach stinks". Many say things like this without really having an informed idea of what's really happening. Look at how ridiculous the latest Sully article sounds. Anyway, the Pegulas will have to try and figure some of this stuff out. My guess is they will make some mistakes along the way. I just hope they are clever enough to read between the lines and make fewer mistakes than most. I like Hackett though. Can't say I know he is the best choice. But I wouldn't rule him out before taking a good look. -
God, I hope the Pegulas aren't putting any stock in this drivel.

I have a hunch Marrone doesn't find a job as a HC anywhere. Plus, I would be very disappointed in the Pegulas if they base a decision on what the fans might think. Frankly, I believe Marrone lost us some games with his overly conservative approach and unwillingness to put some faith in Hackett. My view of Hackett is that he is an up and coming coach in this league....a little hyper, but somebody who has a strong grasp of modern principals. Another thing that I like about Hackett is he is all ready here, all ready knows the team and all ready has an established relationship. This team does not need an overhaul. It just needs to get better in a couple of key areas. -

Schwartz for head coach....let him choose the DC. Hackett for OC....without Marrone's meddling. Any offensive line coach other than Pat Morris. Yea....I'll probably get flamed for this, but I thought that Marrone did more to stifle the offense than Hackett. What I want is a real offensive line coach and to give Hackett a chance to work without handcuffs on. -
One thing about Shanny that I like..... every place he has gone, he has been successful running the ball. One thing I do not like...he is older and may be slowing down(at 62, not sure about that), but maybe he just had some crap talent in Washington.
-
Shannahan was a coach who had a very good run with zone blocking schemes and west coast passing concepts. Washington brought in RGIII and a whole new offensive philosophy. It didn't work obviously, but I think he was a pretty damn good coach for a long time. That said though, I just don't think we have the right offense for his schemes. Good read on zone blocking and the need for smaller athletic OLmen(which we don't have): http://www.sbnation.com/2014/7/25/5928877/alex-gibbs-seahawks-broncos-texans-nfl-zone-blocking

Polian's endorsement of Marrone and Reich tell me he is old and out of touch. Marrone is unable to play nice with management, the media, etc and Reich simply has not earned his stripes yet. Neither did Marrone for that matter. My hope is that the Pegulas do not get overly nostalgic and pick Reich if he is not clearly the best candidate. Personally, I think the Bills need to concentrate on finding a coach who has a very good grasp of offensive philosophies and someone who has shown the ability put in plays that can catch defenses off guard. The top offenses are able to exploit weaknesses. This is something Buffalo has not been able to do. I want someone who knows how to attack instead of someone who says, well that didn't work, lets get back to work. I want someone who all ready knows what works and doesn't work.

Bandit's 2015 Draft Report - OGs
Rockinon replied to thebandit27's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You should add Centers and Tackles to this list. The Bills have so many young guys on the line that they may be looking to add someone who can play multiple positions on the line. They may also look at moving someone on the current line to another position knowing that they can easily move back. -
Does Schwartz stay if he's not the HC?
Rockinon replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Schwartz is not going to be a consideration unless he can somehow come up with a viable solution to get the offense on track. He would need to convince the front office that he has found a great offensive coordinator to turn things around. That is a tall order folks. He has no business being pissed if he cannot do this. Another thing that no one seems to notice...Schwartz is still under contract and you will not see people lining up to hire him until his contract is up or the Bills let him go. And I don't see the Bills letting him go. -

It's not that hard... P-E-G-U-L-A
Rockinon replied to LabattBlue's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't know. I usually try to keep my spelling/punctuation correct, but after texting with my family, especially the younger members, I just get tired and lazy. Sometimes I simply miss a keystroke and just keep going because I don't really give a damn if the spelling is wrong or the punctuation is incorrect. It's just a message board...not English class. Although it is kind of annoying especially when nearly every word looks like some kind of ghetto speak. Not really ripping on inner city slang, just can't stand kids that grew up in the country trying to act like they are hip enough to talk that way.
