  1. I have no idea why you would suggest an over zealous whistle... the ref ruled a fumble... and bills recovery...end of play... no quick whistle...bills ball... change of possesion.... clock stops automatically. booth calls down to field and tells the ump to hold everything...they've decided to review to see if the runner was down by contact or if there was a fumble and a bills recovery. during the review, the booth notices that it was not a lateral... and ruled it was a forward pass. That's illegal and an offensive penalty. the rule is that if there is an offensive penaty in the last minute of play, it is a 10 second run off. so... an automatic runoff of 10 sec when there was only 3 seconds when the ref blew whistle and ruled fumble and bills recovery. in a nutshell... the ruling is simply... during the play there was an illegal forward pass.... plain and simple... with a play stoppage at 3 sec... it's an offensive penalty... it means game over. there was no lateral, there was no fumble.
  2. He gets stopped with a car load of dope and he hasn't been supended?
  3. Dude... you need to stop by Empire vision and have your eyes checked or maybe even take a course in reading comprehension. The "trooth" is... nowhere in my post do I comment on the "play calling". So... you must have been responding to a different post... cuz you sure pulled that one from beyond your sphinctor. Oh... and a brilliant statement you make... "if all of TE's passes would have been more accurate, we would have slaughtered the Seahawks 56 - 10" Brilliant... now that's "keepin it real". So, if Scott Norwood would have been accurate on his kick in SB 25.... go ahead, fill in the rest. So... who can't handle the "trooth"?
  4. My impression of the Seattle game... sans the rose colored glasses. I'm in agreement with R. Rich and a lot of what he posted earlier this week. A win is a win is a win. 1) Special teams proved why they are top 3 in in the league, if not, outright the best. They are simply damn good and championship calibre. 2) What the hell is all the fuss about the Oline? They weren't perfect, but they were solid as hell against a decent defense. I have, no concerns with this unit... especially considering they will soon be enhanced with the return of Peters. 3) The defense appeared to be much improved... however, it is difficult to get a clear picture of where they really are.... and I state this, because... in the spirit of "keeping it real" we must acknowledge that Seattle came ino this game with... * A QB that only threw 8 passes in the first presason game and did not play a down in the preseason after that * No class A RB * injuries to 3 of their top 4 WRs, and then during the game they lost the last of their top 4 WRs and one of their top class B RB. * Seattle had 8 plays of 16 or more yards. Not good.. considering the Sehawk Offense was not running on all 8 cylinders. * Seattle was playing catch up much of the game... especially 2nd half. On the TD pass to Burleson, the only thing I can say is that Jabari had damn good coverage, Hasselbeck made a hell of a throw, and Burleson made a hell of a catch.... that's just one of those things that happen. So that one is a mulligan in my book. I ain't taking anthing away from the D... I'm just saying this game was not a real test of where they are and don't take too much from it. Offensively... I must say I was a bit disappointed. I saw none of this high octane offense that was presumed to happen with Turk. Look a lot like the same ole same ole to me. Granted, they played against a very good defense, even if they were minus their best DT (Bernard) and Tatupu not 100%. The offensive line played well, Marshawn and Jackson played well, the receivers played well. And, the special teams essentially gift wrapped 21 of the 34 points. That means, essentially, of drives they had, they managed 13 points. In my opinion, that aint gonna cut it. I'm going to put the onus squarley on The QB... and here's why... The bills had 8 3rd down situations of 5 or more yards in which they passed on. Of those 8 pass attempts, only twice did Edwards throw the ball beyond the first down marker. To me, you can look it a couple different ways... 1) Trent took care of the ball and didn't caus a turnover.... basically playing not to lose. 2) Trent is the same old dink and dunk Trent that ain't got the moxie to challenge the defense and huck the seed downfield. I kind of think it's somewhere in the middle of those 2. In any case... that ain't going to cut it long term. The Bills defense aint nearlly as good as the Baltimore defense when they won the super bowl... so transferring the Trent Dilfer offense to Trent Edwards offense will not yield the same results. Going into to Jax this week, the defense comes in with an advantage again, in that they are going up against a patwork Oline and an Jax offense in transition with their WRs. So... giving up a lot of yards and points in that situation would not be good. On the offensive side of the ball, the Bills are facing a better defense than Seattle... maybe... or is the Jax defense also in transition from a few new faces and a new coordinator (Greggo) and phylosophy? And, can dink and dunk Trent exploit Greggo's high risk high reward schemes and gouge that D? I don't know those answers. But, I do know that the Bills need to win this one if they expect to be considered seriously for playoff contention. Now that Brady's done, there truly is a 3 way race to win the AFC east. the Bills must win games like this one against Jax to stake their claim to the division crown. Winning this weeks game on Jax's turf would be a big step forward. Losing? Well... They'd be back at ground zero... having to prove they are competitive, improved, and can run with the big dogs. So... Here's to a well needed Bills victory this w/e.
  5. Back in the Donahoe Days, Stev Christie had an injury that prevented him from playing in the pre season. I'm not sure if it was a back or groin. In any case... right at the cutdown to 53, they placed Christie on IR, even though Christie would have been back at 100% in about 3 weeks. That really pissed Christie off... he was hopping mad. He wanted the Bills to out right release him so he could hook on with another team right away.... but once on IR it could not happen for, I believe, 11 weeks. That time came and the Bills reached an injury settlement with him.... Christie ended up being picked up by the Chargers and played the rest of that season plus a couple more. so the point being that IR doesn't necessarily end a player's season... but, for them to play their current team has reach an injury settlement and then waive them.
  6. given the circumstances...could this be a strtaegy by the bills that will help both parties out. perhaps the surgery issue had been discussed between parties for quite a while... maybe bills wanted surgery a lot sooner... as this has been going on now for over a year. Crowell balks and then opts for surgery on the cusp of the season. you gotta assume the bills aren't particularly happy... Both know it's last year of contract... maybe Crow is pissed the Bills didn't extend and it's his way of voicing displeasure. bills may know they have no intention of re-signing Crow after season. So, bills place crow on IR... done for the season? Maybe not (see Steve Christie) Bills may not want to be saddled with paying him all year... but they have to until wk. 11 Wk 11 comes... Crow's injury is healed... bills pay injury settlement & waive Crow... Crow is either picked up on waivers or a FA if not. He then would sign with any team (even Bills) as a way to audition for a new contract somewhere next year. bills win... they don't pay his full contract... maybe Crow wins cuz he still gets a chance to prove himself to another team and/or position himself to make more $ in FA if he performs well the last 4 or so games with another team. sound logical?
  7. Dude... fine money is a totally separate from salary cap or contract $$$. It's used for charitable contributions.
  8. Sounds more like an apology fro trent than a breakdown of "HIS" throws. From where I was sitting he looked uncomfortable and unsure... typical deer in headlight syndrome. The more disappointing observtion was that he was typical Trent... dumping off to the nearest receiver to him. No attack down fileld. He hasn't demonsrated that he's gone from pampered rookie to the next step. On the other hand... JP comes in and with a flick of his wrist goes down the field 25 yards. I thought the Bills had something with Edwards... but now, I aint sure. Where the hell was this down field attacking offense I've heard that was supposed to be coming. Don't look like it's gonna happen with Trent.
  9. So... you're NOT OK with Hardy's rection? Ever heard of humility? He made quite a few mistakes out there... and said as much in his sideline interview with Catalana. Why celebrate a not so good overall night just because JP dropped a perfect pass in your lap in the endzone? Its not like the guy got wide open or made a spectacular grab. Marv Levy once told Thurman Thomas that when he got to the endzone to "act like he'd been there before".... in other words, not like he was lucky and just won the lottery.
  10. Really Mike? Are you suggeting this team doesn't suck? I definitly saw a 6-10, 7-9 team last night.... and I'm not even taking the score into consideration. The Bills could've won 40-10, but if they played like they did last night, I'd give tem an "F".
  11. Yep... I know... it's preseason. Skins vs. Bills... I didn't care one lick about the outcome. Wins/losses don't mean anything. Bills could hav been drubbed 34-12 and I'd have found a silver lining if there were clear signs that "fundamentally", they were functional. What I came away with was that... in a nutshell, the offense is still worthy of 31 st ranking, and the defense is worthy of their 31st ranking. Anyone that doesn't see a replay of the past two seasons is as blind as a bat and as dumb as a rock. In 2006 & 2007 preseasons, shittee performance in the preseason = shittee performance in the regular season. Observations.. * Skins run 18 plays against the defense in the first qtr., despite losing the ball on the opening kickoff... one of the drives was a 12 play drive, resulting in a TD. Bills didn't record their first 3 and out til 3:00 left in the half. And, the Skins sealed the deal in the 4th qtr. running a 16 play drive and backing the Bills up to their own goal line. The Skins offense piled up 341 yards... 175 on the ground. The long drives of 12-18 plays were a common theme the last two preseasons, and carried over to regular season. It will again this season, I'm sad to say. * Offensively... the one thing that had to happen to get to the next level was Trent Edwards had to make significant improvement for the Bills 'O' to take the next step. He didn't... he looked more like John Edwards. Trent was a complete deer in headlights, finishing 1 of 5.... and Jason Peters wouldn't have changed that. When Losman stepped in (and I'm not a Losman fan) there was a big difference. Edwards did nothing to close the door and establish himself as the clear starter... and Losman did the necessary things to keep that door wide open. Plan on another year of both QBs seeing significant time and a lot of inconsistency as well as a bottom 25% ranking. * Schonert's promotion to OC was a poor decision. There's a reason he hasn't been an OC prior to this. * the Perry Fewell experiment is over. The verdict is in, and he stinks. But, wait a minute... isn't Jauron the defacto DC? Playoffs? Are you kidding me? Playoffs? Introducing your 2008 Buffalo Bills.... same as the 2007 Buffalo Bills.
  12. The one common theme that occured in the previous two preseasons that played out into the regular season (big time) was the bills piss poor defense... specifically... they couldn't get off the field... regardless of who they played and who was in on defense...yeah, even the first string... they repeatedly and consistently got dinged for 12-18 play drives... and that happened in all 8 preseason games over the previous 2 preseasons. That said... if that happens again tonight... especially considering the aquisiton of Stroud, Johnson, & Mitchell, plus a more experienced Poz.... you can mail it in, pretty much... unless other teams have a lot of injuries... the bills ain't making the playoffs. The Bills D must make a quantum leap... if not, Ralph will order Jauron to dump Fewell... if he doesn't lose his own job first.
  13. Yep... you are correct. I'll add that JP is the biggest loser in this holdout. he has to report at some point or lose out on his pension eligibility and even if he doesn't he's still the Bills property. The media may have annointed him King... just as they did Ruben Brown... but as Bills fans, our memory of Ruben is that we really saw little of that dominance expresed in the media. We remember the missed blocks, holding and motion penalties. And, when Ruben became a FA and on the open market, he found out just how many suitors he had...zero... and ended up back in Buffalo getting less than he wanted. JP is good... but I've not seen then dominance expected of a top flight LT. I've seen Orlando Pace, Todd Steussie, Tarik Glenn and Walter Jones play, and he does not remind me of any of those guys... at least not yet.
  14. JP will get giddy twice this year seeing Farve up close & personal. I wonder if JP is hoping Farve will wear shorts at least in the pre game warmups.
  15. You must not have much familiarity with Buffalo, the Bills, or fans to ask such a question. Bills fans are patient to a point. But, we live in a world of 'what have you done for me lately'? Any Bill who chokes or doesn't play up to, or close to, expectations will incur the wrath of the fans. That's guaranteed. Edwards or other. Two games in a row? Completly choke? Edwards? Dude... I've got $500 that says that won't happen... game on?
  16. OK Kelly, I agree, Peters deserves respect and perhaps more money. But... as you mentioned you're relying on your experience and speculation like everyone else that this is simply a contract issue. But the only facts that we know are... * Peters signed a 5 yr contract 2 yrs. ago * Peters made the Pro Bowl * Peters didn't play in the PB had sports hernia surgery around that time. * Peters did not show up for voluntary OTAs * Peters did not show up for a mandatory minicamp * Peters did not show up for training camp * Peters has not responded to some sort of contact made by the front office That's all that we know... the rest is imagination and speculation. So, from my perch, Peters hasn't exactly shown good judgement or behavior here. He has a contract, he's injured until he demonstrates otherwise. For whatever reason he does not want to stop by OBD to demonstrate that. Well... I ain't buying a car that's just been in an accident until I'm assured the frame is intact. But, if the seller won't let me check out the car, ther's really no basis for discusion.... and I ain't gonna buy. Since he hasn't been seen around OBD... how do know he ain't 500 lbs., how do we know he ain't gone "Anthony Spellman", and how do we know he ain't got something to hide? Based on the facts as I know them right now, I'm in Ralph's corner if I have to take sides.
  17. Hey Kelly... I may be guilty of being one your idjits. All I freakin want to know is if there is an article that quotes JP or Parker saying they want more money. Right now, aside from what you quote above is the only meat we've got. I'd like to know where you found those quotes, or simlilar. I've searched for articles on it and, honestly, I haven't found one word about it from either of them. Everything I find is it's all speculation. Of course it doesn't mean it ain't so. Decesare's peice doesn't give me anything we didn't already know. If you're gonna don the 'fair and balanced' badge it would fair to pitch me a link to the trooth so that I can sleep well tonight. Man... if you've got the quotes... please, hook me up.
  18. Well... he says "Peter's beef is legit". OK, what beef? I can't find one shred of evidence... or article that indicates that Peter's or his agent has actually been "QUOTED" anywhere as having asked for any new contract or extension. If there is such a quote floating around, can someone please point me to it? Right now it seems to me everything is speculation. And, if the Bills are trying to make contact with Peters via electronic means, Peters is not responding. Wouldn't it seem resonable to you that if you were in Peters shoes and wanted a new contract that you would at least answer any communication from your employer? I just don't get Peters not communicating.... put your frickin man Pants on Jason and come face to face with Brandon. I mean, man, I really don't get this kid. He's a good LT, and perhaps he does deserve more $$$. No one is arguing that he desreves more. But, he's coming off sports hernia surgery and if he wants a new contract, WTF are the Bills actually buying???? The pre-injury Peters, or the post injury Peters? We all know the pre-injury Peters was a very good LT, but we don't know what we have since the surgery, he hasn't been in contact with the Bills or attended any minicamps/OTAs so how would anyone know his condition? Ralph ain't gonna lay down any more coin on the dude until he knows that. Moulds had the same injury (OT game agaisnt Cincy a few years ago) and he was necver the same... he had none of the explosiveness he once had... and never rebounded from that.
  19. VOR... 26 out of 32 is damn impressive. You done real good. Wit out lookiing em up I wouldn't have gotten that many. Even if Peters is considered #1 fairly and squarely, it still doesn't address or explain the silence. I could find no (as in zero, zip, nada) evidence of any report or statement attributable to Eugene Parker or Jason Peters asking or suggesting either one of them was happy with his contract and were looking for a new or extended deal. If their is some sort of evidence... please... let me know where I can see it read it for myself. Everything I'm reading or hearing is coming from the press. And, even the front office is tight lipped... all theyr're publically saying is that if he's unhappy he has to get his ass in camp before it will be addressed. So, contract babble is speculation to this point. And anyone can speculate about anything and be sopt on or dead wrong. There has to be something else going on that the Bills front office knows, but is not saying. Peters and his agent have to know that coming off an injury 2 yrs. into his current contract that they aren't exactly in a position of leverage. It just does not make sense for anyone that wants a new contract to not have some sort of dialogue with the team. hoe's that gonna happen without him or his agent opening their mouth? And, to me, moving Walker to LT one week into camp sends a clear signal that the Bills don't expect him at all. I think they know there is something personal going on here unrelated to a contract issue. It just makes no sense. Hell, if he wants new money, the Bills have a history of taking care of their people. Just last season Schoebel got new money and they locked him up a couple of years ago just like Peters... and Lee Evans, who's even in a greater position of leverage (he can walk at the end of the season, Peters can't) showed up on time and the Bills are negotiating with him. All he has to do is show up.
  20. Hey, ieatcrayonz... you may want to add other reasons... why? Cuz... aren't we all assuming this is contract & money related? Nowhere have I heard or seen attributed to Jason or his agent having publically or otherwise, officially stated that they would like to renegotiate or other. Have you?... if so, point me to that submission please. To me... not showing up in the offseason or training camp, and worse... no communication, complete silence, no acknowledgement of communication from the Bills front office in an attempt to reach out.... this is unprecedented in Bills history and it signals to me that there may very well be something else going on here... and especially the Bills haste in moving Langston Walker to LT one week into camp. The Bills know more than they're saying. What are the possibilities? 1) contract problems, like everyone suspects. But if that's the case why no dialogue? It doesn't make sense. In the end, if he wants more money, there has to be communication... an agreement or deal simply can't be reached without dialogue. 2) The groin injury has taken his edge off. Maybe he doesn't have the explosiveness and ability he once had and is worried that it will be exposed once he shows up. We all know the first thing he shows up, the docs are going to give him a thorough exam... even more so coming off an injury, and certainly if he wants more $$$ 3) This one is touchy... and I'm not making an accusation here, but only submitting it as a possiblity given the unprecedented wall of silence by a Bills player with the media and front office. Even back in the Bruce Smith days there was banter going back & forth before he would eventually grace us with his presence. What if Jason had a positive illegal substance test... srike one.... we don't know whether he does have a strike one because that is not released and the team would not comment on that. It's a mulligan anyway. But, if he were to test positive again, when he showed up for camp, it would be strike 2 and he's be suspended for 4 games. That in itself would ruin any chance he had for a new contract. So, is it so far fetched to think that if he used an illegal substance, that he might want to wait until it leaves his system before subjecting himself to a physical? I mean absolutely no one would have suspected Nick Kaczur in what just happened to him. And, these guys are human and some deal with severe pain as a result of the pounding and injuries... one unprescribed pill to curb the pain can be devasting to player's career. So... this whole thing is getting more strange by the day. If Jason doesn't communicate soon, this might spin out of control.
  21. What do gas Prices and J. Peters have in common? They're both only valuable because the alternatives are either slim or not fully developed. The fact of the matter is that Peters has been the left tackle of record the past 2.5 seasons, or so, on one of the NFLs worst offenses over that period... ranking no better than the bottom 1/5 in the league. That's fact. 2nd, he's coming off a groin injury that may limit the explosiveness he once had. If I'm the Bills brass, I'm not doling out more kwan until I can see how he performs in the regular season for a few games. 3rd, he's also not communicatiing... dialogue is the essence in reaching any understanding and agreement on a contract adjustment. Untill he communcates or just shows up, the Bills are not going to budge. if he doesn't understand that, he must have an IQ below 30. So, for you Bills Bros. that like a quick read... you can leave it at this. If you like a tad more meat, I'll expand on it below. As I mentioned, gas prices... no frickin way should we be paying this much for a gal. ... it doesn't cost that much to produce... it's the demand that's driving this. The prices will come down when either consumption drops off significantly... through altenatives such as electric cars, nuclear power plants, fuel cell cars, wind power, solar power. If all of these are developed and ready for prime time by 2020, gasprices will, over that period, drop like a stone. These oil bastards know the end is near and they're cashing in now and using some of that $$$, to invest in, and try and control those alternatives I noted above. Likewise, Peters happens to be a decent LT in an era where there are very few of them and thus fewr alternatives for the Bills. Most Bills fans are not objective when it comes to their Bills. To them, the Bills players are the best... If Madden rates Peters as the #1 tackle... he's all world, end of story. Bullsh--, he's a pretty good LT... but he's not a dominant LT as Pace, Roaf, Webb, Elliott, etc. in their prime. There are not a lot of good LTs out there right now... so Peters may be one of the top 7 LTs in the game, by default. To illustrate this point, I submit to you a list of 32 starting LTs... or at least listed as such... below. How many of you can match these LTs with their team... you're a damn good NFL fan if you get all 32 correct. But, my suspicion is, the average fan might be able to get 15 or so. So, go a head and take a crack at it. Levi Johnson Joe Thomas Marvel Smith Effram Salaam Khalif Barnes David Stewart Tony Ugoh Jason Peters Jake Long Matt Light D'Brickishaw Ferguson Ryan Clady Brandon Albert Kwame Harris Marcus McNeil Mike Gandy Joe Staley Orlando Pace Chris Williams Jeff Backus Chad Clifton Bryant McKinnie Renardo Foster Jordan Gross Jamaal Brown Luke Pettigout Dave Diehl Flozell Adams William Thomas Chris Samuels Adam Terry Walter Jones OK... if you got 20 correct, I tip my hat to you... If you got more than that correct, you're sick... and I am not worthy. Anyway, my pecking order... Pace, Jones, & Thomas are in a class by themselves. Light, Diehl, Adams are proven solid and proven. Then, I'd put Johnson, Gross, Peters, Backus in the next tier. I'm sure many of you might take issue with that... but, I'll just say... before you rate these guys yourself, take your Bills cap off first and 'keep it real". Just to note... 4 of the top 6 I just named are NFC LTs... and keep in mind, Thomas was a rookie last year... so Peters being named to represent the AFC in the pro bowl was, in part, because there were slim pickings at that position in the AFC. So, here's my appeal to Jason... Jason, you're a pretty good LT. But, you've only been a starter for 3 full seasons... and not all of those starts at LT. We thank you for being a solid left tackle on the NFL's 31st ranked offense in 08... but, I've got news for you, dude...the Bills can finish 31st without you... and maybe even 20th. Why aren't you in camp, or at least engaged in a dialogue with your employer? Are you hiding something? Perhaps your injruy is not healed? How would we know without you being in camp and having a physical? Also, each day you stay away and don't communicate with your employer, you leave the door open for imaginations to run wild... Are you waiting for illegal substances to purge from your system before you report so you have contract leverage and/or don't get suspended? Your silence and unwillingness to communcate is a first in Bills history and will lead to more questions and the potential for imaginations to run amuck and rumors to start. You're not doing yourself any favors... if I didn't show up for work and did not respond to contact from my employer, I'd be on the street in a nano second. If you are truly a professional, act like one. Your behavior is anything but professional. If you think you deserve more money, put your man pants on and convey that to your employer mano y mano. Don't be a kitty. You can start by texting or phoning your employer...you owe them that... if you are, in fact a professional. Jason, the ball is in your court. Do the right thing.
  22. dude... just to add to your conspiracy or doom theory... Parrish got hurt in training camp ans wasn't activated for at last two months.... and the Bills traded some pix to Dallas to draft JP Losman... we all kno Trou Vincent hit himin trining camp and he was out wieth a broken leg for must of the season. Don't know where you're going with all this crap.... sh-- happens... all the time. That's the way it is. Do you think there's a curse on the Bills? Should the Bills consider bringing in a witch doctor?
  23. WHY? You have 3 damn good ones Plus Spencer Johnson & the kid out of VT. If you know even the slightest bit about the Bills defense and their scheme, you wouldn't have thrown your comment out. So, dude... you need to bone up on not just your football knowledge in general, but your Bills football as well. The effectivness of any DE is only as good as what's in the middle and around them. If the Bills middle has been solidified with the addition of Stoud and Johnson, then Denny, Schobel, Kelsay will have a teriffic season. On a side note..... no position is an "island" by themselves. Stick Champ Bailey on a receiver without having an adequate pass rush and he'll get toasted 9 out of 10 times. Plug in Carson Palmer or Ben Roethlisberger as your QB, and without a running game or protection, they'll perform miserably.
  24. I think you mean Shane Nelson instad of Conlan. The Bermuda Triangle. And... IMO... I think Catlin was the best Def.Coordinator the Bills ever had... and notto downplay Wade Phillip's or Ted Cotrell's accomplishments.
  25. Let me see. Bills carried 4 rb last year. (I did the math) Lynch, Thomas, Jackson, Wright. Even when Thomas was placed on IR, Shaud Williams got callled up. Sans Thomas... I still did the math, and if Oman steps in, he'd be the 4th RB. So, WTF is the big deal? They all have to perform up to expectations or they'll get dumped. Competition is good and, unless one of those 4 really suck, or get injured, they're gonna be on the 53.
