  1. I'd say Chris Berman found his dream job.
  2. If the book speaks to the gaps in effort, risk and education between high income earners and lower income earners, I'd find it interesting. If it also addresses how lower income people can become more productive AND what policy changes might cause economic growth AND how to increase demand for labor then it could be a winner. That is if it doesn't use increased taxation as the fix. If the book promotes the idea of increasing taxes on high income people and companies or puts artificial limits on income, then it's just a piece of trash. You may have missed a big opportunity this week. Ford's CEO is stepping down and they've announced that he will be replaced by the current COO who will in all likelihood be given a hefty compensation package. Mr. Gator you could have made a call to Ford and offered to take the job for $249K and no stock. Ford being in a very competitive business would have jumped at the chance I'm sure to replace the CEO at a relatively low cost. It would help their bottom line.
  3. The picture is aptly captioned "in a show of US support".
  4. So if I'm the league or a league owner, keeping the Bills in Buffalo and selling an expansion franchise to the Toronto group is what I would want. Big money in that.
  5. Yes, he railed against high deductible plans and those which covered lower percentages of a hospital bill. Than after passage of the law he and his friends at HHS must have had sticker shock themselves which resulted in them rolling out the bronze plans which only cover 60% of a hospital or ER stay after the deductibles are met. Any Tom, Dick , Harry or Jane Doe could have bought a plan like that individually without the new law being passed.
  6. Agree. The man's value system is simply way outside traditional mainstream American values. It's as if he's been keeping a societal scorecard for decades and want to re-write the rules to give him the outcome he thinks is just.
  7. Gotta tell ya, that response never gets old.
  8. Wow. Not many would call Trump a moron.
  9. So is Jeb Bush silly enough to think that he can run, win the primary and then the general election? Does he really think he can overcome his Brother's lousy presidency and the disdain that exists for George the younger? That he can separate himself from that politically?
  10. The poor in the US have had Medicaid for decades and Medicare when they're older. Americans with high incomes have earned it. Those at the bottom to a great extent have earned their place there as well. If we took all the money from everyone and distributed it equally amongst all and then stood back and watched, the same people who are rich now would end up rich again and same for the poor. America is built on freedom and higher risk/reward.
  11. Part of union culture is !@#$ing with non-union capitalist pigs.
  12. He did by failing to address climate change!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  13. Let me see if I can better explain his position. In this country, the wealthiest on the planet, everyone that wants a job should have that opportunity. If the rich who control the private sector won't give everyone a job and a job that pays a decent wage, then it's government's job to provide those opportunities. For those that don't want to work, the government should provide housing, health care, food, education and some money for other living expenses. Now don't punch back with the argument about how to pay for all this. The rich (who are lucky) can certainly pay more in taxes (especially since they don't want to share with others) and we've proven in recent years that our country can borrow and print whatever money is necessary to cover these expenses without risk of runaway inflation or economic collapse.
  14. Several years ago at a trade show in Chicago myself and another person were setting up a booth. The booth had 2 clip on lights, each with 1 small bulb that plugged into standard 110V AC. A union representative walking the floor informed us that we would have to comply with venue rules which required a union electrician to perform any "electrical work". That included plugging in the light fixtures. We were presented with a work order form which we filled out and gave to the representative. Some 30-45 minutes later an electrician arrived, plugged in our 2 fixtures and we were billed the minimum charge (I believe $90) for the work.
  15. Here's Obama's version of the ACA working Those of you that have insurance can keep it and your doctor The law will reduce the deficit The cost curve for all will bend down saving families $2500 per year on their premiums Nearly everyone will have coverage Mandating that companies of 50 or more employees provide coverage will not result in the loss of jobs Small businesses will be able to get a tax credit to help fund coverage for employees Medicare patients will not see a decline in coverage To answer your question.........NO!, it's not going to work.
  16. Thank you for adding to my list.... You have: No sense of smell No sense of decency No sense of humor
  17. So the media praised Hillary's handling of the shoe lobbed at her. Once again I think the media missed a key piece of analysis in comparing the Bush shoe incident to Hillary's. If you look at both incidents, it's very clear that Bush is by far the superior "Dodge Shoe" player of the two and in fact Hillary's performance is so bad, it could hurt her in her quest to be elected. Notice that Hillary never sees the shoe coming and in fact it's past her before she even makes any effort to avoid it. Notice also how she cowers in fear. She never sees it coming. She then asks if it was a bat. Not a clue. A terrible performance on her part. In contrast George Bush not only sees the shoe being thrown but also reacts quickly to avoid it. He then immediately rights himself, has direct eye contract with his opponent, sees the second shoe clearly and easily avoids it. In contrast he makes it look easy. If today's rumors that a "Dodge Shoe" competition may be added the presidential debates is true, Hillary could be in trouble. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RTG8-jRTCtE
  18. You're painting with a broad brush here. I don't like minorities constantly claiming they're disadvantaged because of their skin and I also don't like blaming bad behavior the same way. Minorities when they claim racism is to blame for high crime rates or poor school performance invite themselves to be criticized by their neighborhood statistics. This is what you're doing and while there may be stats to back up your claim, I simply choose to look beyond race or neighborhood address for the reason bad stuff happens. In this case the attackers are idiots, thugs, criminals and they'll pay a price, but unfortunately the victim will pay the highest price. Bad decisions caused this incident. Nothing else.
  19. No. How about the Boston Marathon bombers. If your parents or mine adopted those 2 guys when they were born and they grew up in your family or mine, would they have bombed the marathon? Probably not. Regardless of whatever drove them to do it, they're responsible for their actions. Same for the 3 guys that beat up the guy in Detroit.
  20. People are products of their environment. It's learned behavior and beliefs.
  21. After reading this thread it's obvious many of you know very little about Mr. Bon Jovi. Ever see him interviewed? He's a very bright, articulate and impressive guy. Not saying he should be the one or that he even has a great chance at becoming the next owner, but he should be taken seriously.
  22. Racial bias is a character flaw and a big one when it results in an incident like this, but we really don't know if this was a racially motivated event do we.
  23. Gator is an actor and a damn good one. Nobody could be as misguided as he portrays.
  24. One of the problems with health care is that it has been free or near free for most. Most are covered by Medicaid or Medicare or private insurance paid by their employer. Due to this we've become lousy users of health insurance and health care and a bunch of whiners that don't want to pay for anything. The population will make better decisions if they have skin in the game with each person making their own choice of coverage and usage and paying their own premiums. Can't tell you how many neighbors of mine and people that work here that run off the to doctor or ER every time they or their kids get a runny nose and sometimes that results in ridiculous tests and prescriptions being ordered for them. Drives up everyone's insurance cost, but these people don't care because they don't have to pay. If they paid the premiums or paid for their doc visits, they'd become better consumers. That and I find it ridiculous as en employer that we select the plan(s) that our employees choose from. I can assure that we don't make the best choices for everyone in that process.
