Agreed with the rest of the country continually taking shots. But Buffalo and the companies here certainly don't help the cause though. People here love to play up the "we're an underdog / hardworking" city as opposed to just existing. It comes through in a lot of advertising, marketing, and communications.

Agreed, but it's hard to break/change a psyche of a community. It's certainly not white collar here, so people stick with what they know.

To me, these are separate conversations/unrelated. I think that, yes, Buffalo loves "blue-collar" teams filled with players like Kyle Williams, Eric Wood, etc., because they see themselves and the broader community "in" those players. They're not braggadocious, flashy, or prima donnas. They're just hard workers who go to work and do their job. I think people don't want AB on this team mainly for the reasons Flip Johnson mentioned above (30+, big contract, would probably be unhappy here), as well as teef (the capital it would take to acquire him, him not fitting in with McDermott's team-first type of player, etc).

The Jets released Long to avoid a $3 million roster bonus, which would've become guaranteed if he had remained on the roster Wednesday. The expected move makes him a free agent. Long, 28, signed a four-year, $27.4 million contract last offseason after four seasons with the Washington Redskins. The Jets had hoped he would stabilize the center position, a weakness since Nick Mangold stopped playing in 2016, but the plan didn't materialize. Long played the second half of the season with a tendon injury in his right (snapping) hand, which affected his performance. The low point came in a Week 9 loss to the Miami Dolphins (who were then coached by Gase), during which he was off-target on at least seven shotgun snaps. Then-Jets coach Todd Bowles didn't pull him until late in the game, resulting in a torrent of criticism. Long never played center again. When he returned to the lineup two weeks later, he played left guard, where he stayed for the rest of the season. He wound up with 13 starts -- eight at center, five at left guard. The Jets structured his contract in a way that leaves no "dead" money on the 2019 salary cap. His entire $6.5 million cap charge comes off the books, increasing their cap-room surplus to about $100 million. They can use some of the money to sign a center because there is no heir apparent on the roster.

Hate the Jets but loved Adams coming out. Wish he went to a different team as he's primed to be the best safety in the league and is a lot of fun to watch.

They at least have a history of fielding competent teams and making the playoffs. We... do not. There's lots of fans in this thread saying that winning cures (almost) all. That's true. But we haven't exactly done a whole lot of winning in the last 20 years. Now combine that with the myriad of other factors Graham laid out in the article and you can understand why coaches threaten that they'll trade players to Buffalo.

I understand the point you're trying to make, but yes, these things usually do take time. In the examples you used: Harbaugh - had Smith/Kaep in place and made the playoffs his first year (McD had Tyrod in place and went to the playoffs his first year) Pederson - first season with Wentz Philly went 7-9 and missed the playoffs Lynn - Has a future HOFer at QB so this is REALLY apples to oranges McVay - Goff was already in LA for a year and got his rookie season out of the way Nagy - Trubisky was already in Chicago for a year and got his rookie season out of the way I think the true litmus test will be next season, when Allen has a year under his belt and has talent around him. Chicago having Robinson, Gabriel, Miller, Cohen, and Howard >>> what Allen has to work with. And then LA? Woods, Cooks, Cupp, Gurley... there's no comparison.

Can't imagine he left on the best of terms if he's publicly saying stuff like this. I wouldn't plan on him being in a Bills uni in 2019.
