  1. i think this thread is spot on. josh takes a little longer to find his target on most multi target plays (he's gotten a lot better at quick screens tho). he's got the talent and arm to buy himself some time. but that weakness is emphasized and that positive ability is negated with goofy slow forming plays, MOST OF ALL WHEN THE FIELD IS SHORTER! we should tend to have a fast first or second read for allen, because that gives him a chance to go through his reads and go back if need be. he can also tuck the rock and just murder a deep drop D, but slow forming plays in compressed space remove that too. we had one audible into a run by allen where the halfback came through the hole and blocked. allen got tackled about 3 or 4 yards up, but it was for a first down. a missed tackle on a play like that can break for a score, and it's going to pull the LBs up. dabo likes to either keep going to the qb run, or just throw it out totally, never really setting up the d with the same look to set up play action which gets the LBs fooled quickly after the snap. the stuff NE is doing w newton or what andy reid always does works this way very well, we need a coach for our offensive coaches.
  2. bro, i am now able to call out ahead of time if a play called (almost always on 3rd down or in the red zone) is going to fail or not because it takes too long to develop. the timing of the play call vs a given D formation and down and distance is the art of calling plays IMO, execution, prep, and deep understanding of what the D is weak to is the science. the higher the stakes get, the worse at the former dabo gets. early in games he gets teams fooled, and on first down, or 3rd and passing (in general) this O has had some good success, but you can just feel the O get tight because they have simply too high of a degree of difficulty built into the play call. the trickery part of it might even be worse. i swear dabo read the "advanced stats" goofery that said that play action works no matter how well you have been running the ball. what that fails to take into account is play action works only if you can fool the D into thinking you might actually run it. formation and down and distance can really tip the d off, so you still need to fool the D, so it needs to look like a play where you have run or should run out of. that double fake screen which was supposed to be a TE screen over the gut was the dumbest thing around. we weren't killing them on screens enough to fake it one way, let alone two, and our screens tend to be a touch slower w the back further out, not the NE stuff where the DE or LB comes crashing at the QB and only then does the ball get passed (they also get away w illegal man downfield all the time, but i digress). and of course we got called for illegal man and the play had no chance. we did that inside the like 20 or 25, when the jets are in a zone with no room to work. we have so much success out of 4 or 5 wide that A) we should keep doing it and B) we aren't setting up any real tendencies for a double fake reverse or screen so it makes those much harder trick plays even dumber. i do give him credit for not stinking as bad as usual in the 3rd, and he actually called some decent run plays, but he pays no mind to setting the O up with a few bread and butter formations and personal groups where we can play advantage and get the D going the wrong way when we need to.
  3. im getting ahead of myself but i am allowed because i am a fan. so, assuming ne just still stinks and our d has figured out how not to be the worst, and we win that game, can we hope to split w these teams? we'd need brown and at least one more TE, and mongo back to have a shot i think. edmunds getting better would help too. tall order tho
  4. The odds are long, very long
  5. Well, the take away is we fixed the d (yeah jets suck) and moved the ball well, we just had bad luck and mistakes in the redzone. I'll take it, now we gotta crush the pats
  6. He was aiming for the ball and the wr lowered down. New we need to bring that intensity again
  7. Just stupid. Stopped the clock for that? Just go for it w allen, why are they doing this? Oc is cheeks man
  8. So those two misses are looking large. Also, I knew that last play would fail as soon as I saw how we lined up. Compressed zone w eyes on the qb, and we are in this silly ass formation w a slow rookie rb in the back field. No chance of a fast play. Awful
  9. This drive now is on dabol. He needs to know the tendencies by now and call something that lets us play advantage offense
  10. So bass has two easy misses in a tight game, and our idiot te falls down on the way to the end zone. I swear this team is snake bit. Also, every 3rd and passing down they blitz and we have a slow to develop play. Williams is out coaching dabol
  11. Guys, we actually had an almost good 3rd quarter. Of course we end it with a fuggin hold on the return
  12. I really wanna win this game. The db mugging beez makes me sick, these zebras need a long swim in the Hudson. We finally got some solid run blocking at least, but our rbs are sooooo slowwwww
  13. Why did that guy in the jets hold the ball and kick it?
  14. Dabol is still a trash oc. He can script em, but he can't call for sheeeeet. If bass didn't flub that earlier one, we'd be in the lead, hurts. Our o to start the season was a lot of smoke and mirrors, and now the ds have caught up (except ours it seems) and it's a struggle
  15. I called and they said everyone walked out once Josh fumbled!
  16. That bass miss last week killed us, let's hope it's not the same this week. Did anyone see what zimmer did to get a 15 yard penalty after the pick? That could be a 4 point penalty
  17. im in NJ too bro, Monmouth county. Just a big body who can punch some people in the mouth is a big addition at this point. phillips is too hurt to anchor, star is afraid of the big bad covid so's doing jack for us, oliver has a knee and he's not really a 1 tech anyhow. if it could happen, i'd fire off the 2nd and get q in here and at the least keep the LBs clean for like 40% of our plays on D
  18. he's big and talented, if that price was a 3rd, i'd do it in a new york minute. frankly, i am tempted for a 2nd
  19. the raven's roster is disgusting.
  20. these next four games are the season, and after that we have the bye. really, the next two games are the season. 4-0 in the division and 6-2 means we can drop every hard game and still control the division. our o line must get not terrible in run blocking, but based on mongo coming back i think that's pretty reasonable, dabol has to unplug his head from his butt and figure out some stuff too. we need to be healthier in the back 7, but honesty it more or less comes down to the coaches fixing the d line. maybe trade like the ravens did for a solid player.
  21. im too young to opine, but that hasn't ever stopped me before. our o line coaching isn't good enough. it's that simple. more than any other unit on a football team, coaching helps and hurts the oline. you see kc and ne and gb put in back ups and get sick results, and you see teams like the raiders spend a ton on oline and still get just ok to barely good results. individual talent on the online doesn't help if you have a single weak link. you need talent, obviously, but how they play as a unit is like 80% of it. if you have just a glaring hole, you need to scheme around it at the OC level. i remember we had this LT (gandy maybe? don't quite remember his name). he was really trash. anyhow, he ended up being the starter for the cards and they went to the superbowl and really shoulda won the thing.
  22. if we had traded for watt 3 years ago at the same price, it would have been considered a steal by the bills but in fact would have been a bad trade because he has been hurt just about all the time. trading for him would be a huge almost desperation move. basically throwing in the towel on all of our DL signings, and ensuring murph and houghs are gonezo next season. It could work, but it's crazy risky and i don't think the bills would make that move. would be exciting at least! im pretty sad the FO let shak and phillips walk and just used that money, and more, to sign downgrades. they may only be downgrades because they don't know the scheme, or perhaps our smaller always fresh rotation doesn't work when refs don't call holding on pass rushers anymore, but its pretty clear clown or dude now in minni would have improved our D, even if we had to cut murhpy or whoever. i think we might have won vs kc if our pass rush came on on 3rd down, and our run d made a couple of stops (literally, like 2 or 3 more stops on first or second down runs and we get the ball and cut a score from KC). absolutely disgusting!
  23. i knew it before, but it kinda shocks me we have more cap/salary allotted to our DL than any other team. having 9 (and now 10) guys in the rotation will do it though. iv'e been shting allover them, and for good reason, but there has to be some non talent reason for the drop off from last year. surely there is a coaching thing that can correct it. i certainly hope so.
  24. well, with this guy getting cut, and the benching on monday, the coaches have made it clear they are the boss and the team follows them. They've kinda increased the difficulty for themselves, but this is their chance to right the ship and get everyone on the same page. these next four games will basically be our season IMO
  25. the klien contract is especially insane. like, we run this D which requires frankly too much from LBs, they have to read cover move and tackle, and a mistake in any of those hurts the d more than in many other d's, so we spend not big but not small money on a guy who really can't do any of that as well as the scheme requires. this team hit paydirt w cheaper free agents signing hyde and poyer, lorax, and jordan phillips. they did less well w star and murphy. combine that with drafting (solid on white, edmunds and milano, trash at CB since that and unless oliver just gets awesome when his knee heals, he and epenesa can be added to that list so far) and we just don't have the right amount of young playmakers offsetting underperforming over paid old guys given that we are putting straight UPS driver practice squad guys and benching starters vs the champs, we would be MUCH better off to have passed on some of these barely JAGS and brought in say clowney and a decent nickle cb
