i'd say kicker/punter RB Corner Safety MLB/WR in that order -
Diggs on the block? Rumor is a 2nd rd pick (year old thread)
colin replied to BillsMafi$'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
if we get digs and clowney (or some such), and maybe a RT (draft or FA) and add some youth in the draft (including RB2 but i think that's on the easier side) then we are walking out of this offseason better at QB (cuz he's growin up!) at WR 1-3 (cuz diggs is 1, brown is 2, and beez is 3) better at TE (growth), and better at OL and RB than last year, along w an equal or better D. That's just putting a super charger on a well running V8, and will push us forward in a big way. -

im all in on this if it is possible. 2nd for diggs and some new money hitting the cap this year (i assume that would be required to get it all done). diggs, brown, beez, and someone with size (FA TE, FA WR, drafted WR i don't care) and instead of being match up beggars we are match up dictators. also -- sherlock holmes is more advanced than it seems like many give him credit for. i think if he talked about lunch pail and hard hat, or motor, it would be a bit too obvious. cracks me up! -
Are there any high risk players worth a gamble?
colin replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
it seems like beane was sticking his nose around clowney and OBJ, and obviously A brown, so i think we are gonna be in the running for the top flight talent this off season. -
i trust the front office to not sign a guy to big money who sucks, so given that caveat, i'm totally on board w cooper. he may not be the best, and he may end up costing like the best, but i figure he's as good or better than watkins, and having watkins as the 3rd guy basically just won KC the super bowl. draft a guy, sign cooper, olsen (i'm off hooper now that olsen is there), and go pay clowney (or whoever, but i think he fits us like a glove cuz he does the dirty work and mauls people) and draft RB2 and OT as well and we are looking at a monster team. could even extend big play tre and put a lot of that cap space left over to use so we have more room later.

McShay - Bills pass on WR and take RB Swift in 1st.
colin replied to PIZ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
meh, goes against the grain but if the front office think this guy is like saquon or something then you draft him in the early 20s. the whole thing w rbs is that running isn't as big as it once was, and the relative value of one back vs another is lower. i'd not be bothered by this if we got WR and DE in free agency -

i mean runs routes almost too hard/fast, runs full speed with the ball, physical beyond his size. just an intense high pressure style of player. -
Who Is Your Least Favorite Bill of All Time ... and Why?
colin replied to Gugny's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
i've hated lots of players at different times. i was in toronto when flutie was on the bills, and the over the top fan love for him just was too much for me. imagine if pats fans were fans of your team for some reason, imagine the pain! i think flutie hit a wall pretty hard a little bit through the season and just trailed off and sucked, and he was and is a world class jerk. people like him because he's a runt, he's a gifted jerk athlete but short, it doesn't make him any more relate-able or likable to me. even tho bledsoe was half checked out of football when we got him, and old and slow, he showed that a competent qb with the weapons we had could just light it up. reed, moulds, price, reimersma, and our RBs were better than any set of weapons we've had since. imagine adding a moulds and price to our team today! honorable mention: mike williams jp losman marcel karlos williams (because he coulda been such a weapon for us) and a few others -
ya, that's the rub/joke. going empty back field gives you zero advantage pre snap, can't fool anyone. it's just going all in on your pass scheme, which maybe works when they can't sub or you have very little clock, but with unlimited time in OT, and with your RB lighting it up and your WRs dropping balls, it just makes me crazy.

and we shall rescue Billsstantinople from the Caliph of no identity or consistency!

i was implying that formation/personal group might be a good thing to pass into if the d is fooled that you are going to run. i was kinda going for a "for some reason, they knew we weren't going to run it!!" but frankly got mad remember how much i dislike dabol. i also kinda assume josh panicked because he lost the plot in the game for a lil while and had a crazed look in his eyes (and i say that as a huge JA17 homer). i don't get where so many people just like hand wave that dabol is good or does good things when he's never had any good results. He's just been around good teams in a lesser role, but when he's been OC in the NFL he's sucked. Good CV with bad results, he's the Pete Buttigeg of offensive football ya, i think some of our team has that in a good way, but dabol just isn't good. IM CRUSADING I CAN'T HELP IT
-
because we have this heavy jumbo squad of wooden players in there, which makes sense if you are running, but dabol is so clever that he passes out of it! except dabol is also so predictable that the D plays pass the whole way dropping 9 (who drops 9?!?) and they keep a spy (or two) so allen can't run and then allen throws the ball and we all hold our breath and strangely it was right where the FB needed it (and he was blanketed at the time because he is so slow) and then he just looks like a goof and mistimes his jump and misses what would have been a big gain. improbable, scary cuz so much coulda gone wrong w the stakes so high, ball looks like it was held too long and it also looks like allen missed the RB open in the flat, and then it almost worked. to me that's insane and basically what the bills O was all season.
-
i think you are completely missing the point here. im not even saying good or bad, i'm saying insane. maybe you'd be more comfortable with crazy or wacky?
-
i think he panicked because he held the ball to long and didn't look motor's way. it's insane because it is insane, dimarco running deep w two defenders around him where the D dropped 9 and the ball was there for him to catch, doesn't that seem insane to you?
-
honestly, while what you say is insane it is totally true. the fact that we have this blocking/run heavy formation in, but pass out of it, and fool NO ONE, as the texans dropped nine, that allen panics and throws up a ball that i was saying oh no oh no when he threw it, and that the ball was actually a good one and in the perfect spot for dimarco to catch it and no one else and then dimarco just looks like a guy who's never ever caught a pass is the perfect summary of the bills entire season on O.
-
so allen obviously has flaws he has partially overcome or has to work to overcome. his deep ball was a mess this year, some of that is scheme/protection, some of it is our WRs, but a large chunk is simply on him. he throws ropes rather than rainbows most of the time and sometimes the balls needs more touch. his fumbling is simply a problem and one he obviously has to overcome. he might not ever be a drew brees nearly zero turnover guy, but he can cut them in half at least. he was super erratic and was a turnover machine until week 4, his worst game by far vs NE, and then as alpha pointed out, he was basically our entire O the rest of the season and had 4 turn overs in like 12 games, which is really good. he really was second to only Ljax in total TDs over that span? that's kinda insane. groups like PFF and stat queens will always rate a phil rivers or matt ryan miles ahead of a guy like allen (and it seems joe flacco and duck hodges too, which shows you what a joke this stuff can be) but he produced like 85+% of our TDs and more than any other player after week four kinda shows he's not the problem w the team and is doing pretty good over all. our team obviously has holes, but QB really isn't the big one by far. the fact that singletary, a rook rb who doesn't have top end speed, and allen are our only real play makers is a huge problem. we just don't have a good O and the lack of playmakers is the biggest issue.

Book Review: NFL Confidential by Johnny Anonymous
colin replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
thanks for the summary. one thing i learn every time i find about about people who started out on the right track and just had more or less constant success (particularly nfl players, who are also not paid for their smarts) is how sort of simple and linear their reasoning tends to be. they just like did what they were told or thought they should do, and everything has kinda gone according to plan ever since. because of this, i'm not surprised a cynic like this dude could see himself as so much smarter than everyone else. he's prolly smarter than most of them, but doesn't notice the others who are smarter because he's kinda a grown up disaffected teen. -

Sammy Watkins: New Teams, Same Bad Attitude
colin replied to DrDawkinstein's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
is it so hard to understand that sammy leaving the bills made him ultimately a better team player than he was here, he even admits as much? sometimes a change is needed and is good for both parties. i wish we still had him since we just have such a lack of skill talent, but it just wasn't in the cards. -
Do you think the Bills are going to make a big run at Clowney?
colin replied to njbuff's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
mcd knows the value of a great edge player and natural pass rusher, he had kraken in carolina and that guy super charged their D. they really fell off without him. bean going after OBJ and AB shows hes will to throw down some chips for a big time player, and i think clowney fits that bill (if not him, than one of the other ones out there too, i'm not married to any of them). i know lots of people are thinking since we seemed to get some utility out of signing more value guys last year that we should do that this year. the problem with that is we only have so many roster spots, and we are lacking in talent and are long cap space, the solution is to pour a little more into some high impact guys. yes we will over pay like we did for morse and star, but so what? it's not like we win games with having extra cap room. Maj bobby had some sick threads on positions, based on what he's written i'd like to cut kroft and smith, sign hooper, let shak walk and sign clowney, and get either cooper or aj green (or whoever) as a splash WR all in FA. if we front load the contracts to soak up lots of our excess cap space (and possibly do the same w white) then we will have room to make roster moves and re up dawkins, allen, millano, edumds, etc. we will add like 5 to 7 guys every draft as well, so we'll have all the bodies and jags we want, but we have to go out and pay some talent.
