Weekly "Ref's for Bills game" thread
negativo replied to Just Jack's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Please, for the love of GOD, don't let them assign us Torbert's crew in the finale in NE. -
Thank you Jim Harbaugh for not tanking on your way out the door. Beating SD was big for us.

UPDATED: Khalil Mack vs Sammy Watkins
negativo replied to negativo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
*More Important Announcement* Outside of "Bills Message Board World" it's hardly an outlandish opinion to suggest Mack has been a better rookie than Watkins, or that the Bills decision to mortgage the house and kids to get Sammie was excessive and foolish. Thank you, God bless you, and God bless the United States of America. -

Report: Harbaugh very likely gone [update: now gone]
negativo replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
According to Schefter, now Harbaugh's family and friends are encouraging him to choose Michigan. http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/12053413/sources-san-francisco-49ers-coach-jim-harbaugh-torn-michigan-nfl -

Keep in mind, without Sammy we would still have Stevie. Statistics say that would be an even swap, plus a superstar OLB in Mack. I tend to agree that the price of moving up was excessive, but if we were going to do it Mack would have been the better choice...at least as of right now. If somehow Sammy explodes next year into the next Megatron while Mack gets injured, well, things could change. I can only go by what we have to work with here and now. -

*IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS* 1. For those who are reading impaired, and feel the need to continue reminding me "how one-sided the votes are", please note that I qualified in my comment that, "If Mack were in red, white and blue instead of silver and black the votes would be flipped." 2. For those who think I'm going to engage in a dispute that involves researching analytics to quantify statistically how many more wins I think the Bills would have with Mack vs Watkins, please note: I'm not diving into a bottomless pit of wasted time and boredom just to satisfy your life-sucking desires. Thank you, and have a great day. -
Not a fan of Spiller as a RB, or a blocker, but I think if converted to WR he'd be deadly. He lacks the vision to read blocks and the toughness to run between the tackles. Plus, he's too fragile. Put him in the slot and I think he'd be a damn good player.

If Mack were in red, white and blue instead of silver and black the votes would be flipped. Sammy MAY develop into a star someday, or he MAY go the path of CJ Spiller. At this point the jury is still out. He's had strong moments where you think he's special, but he's also been tentative going over the middle, taken plays off, been a bit injury prone and got burned showboating. We'll see what next year brings and then evaluate. As of now, he's tied for 4th in the NFL among ROOKIES in both receptions and yards. Nice, but not nearly good enough considering what we gave up for him. Meanwhile, Mack is there already. Now. Today. Best in the game at a position far more important and difficult to fill than WR. I know the glow of fan-hood can be blinding, but objectively speaking it's not even close which player has been the better choice. Hands down it's Mack. -
Which QB would you like in the draft?
negativo replied to Johnny Hammersticks's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Garrett Grayson. He's a complete package. Good size (6'3", 220lbs), strong arm, accurate, mobile, tough, pro-style, good in winter elements...he's perfect for Buffalo. Reminds me a bit of Jim Kelly. If he's still there in the 2nd round it's a no-brainer. -

Good idea. I just added that option to the poll. -

Our offense is not appreciably better this year with Sammy. He's been solid, but nothing special. Stevie Johnson was putting up as good or better numbers during his run. Mack is the best 4-3 LB in the league. When we've struggled on defense it's been stopping the run. We'd have at least two more wins right now with Mack than Sammy. -
Whaley is great at finding hidden gems, but swings big and misses on the top picks. Overpaid for Sammy, overpaid and busted on EJ, and let's not even discuss Cyrus Kouandjio. I'd say Whaley's evaluation is still mixed.
-
Sammy's been a solid rookie receiver, but has hardly delivered on Whaley's "generational player" promise or price tag. I felt from the beginning Mack was the true must-have impact player, and he's been all that and more. He's widely considered to be not only the best rookie, but already the best 4-3 LB in the game. Not bashing Sammy, but Mack would have made this defense impenetrable. Maybe Seattle level impenetrable. Raiders' Khalil Mack almost was a Buffalo Bill: http://www.mercuryne...source=infinite

Week 16 predictions: Bills at Raiders
negativo replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bills D will shut down the Raiders anemic offense. Orton will still suck, but the offense should be able to put up a couple TDs against their mediocre defense. Special teams may get another score, too. Bills pull away in the 4th for a 24-13 victory. -
Report: Harbaugh very likely gone [update: now gone]

The "what will Harbaugh do" drama reminds me of when Nick Saban was coaching Miami and the media was all over it the last few weeks of the season. We know how that ended. -
Report: Harbaugh very likely gone [update: now gone]
negativo replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think there is a lot more to the Michigan opportunity than NFL leverage. First of all, he'll command top coaching dollar no matter where he goes, NFL or Michigan, so money is not going to be the motivator. Here's what factors in most in my opinion. Location: Harbaugh's family has been happily settled in the SF Bay area for eight years, and in California for 15 years, so he is loathe to uprooting. Advantage: Oakland. Wouldn't have to move or even change schools for his kids. Unfinished Business: Harbaugh has unfinished business in both the NFL and college. He's come close to winning it all in both, but has achieved a championship in neither. Advantage: Tie, especially now that there's a playoff in college. Sibling Rivalry: Lost a Super Bowl to his brother John. That will gnaw at him. However, having their sibling rivalry/relationship plastered all over the media spotlight is no doubt an unwanted burden on them both. Advantage: Call it a tie. Coaching Preference: Now that he has an equal sampling in both pro and college he can make an educated decision which one he prefers to coach. My guess is college. He gets control over personnel, no owner breathing down his neck, and his domineering, fire & brimstone style is better suited to 18-21 year old kids than grown men worth millions. Advantage: Michigan Intangible: A Michigan alum who would be given a heroes welcome in Ann Harbor. Oakland? Miami? New York? Not even close. Advantage: Michigan Final analysis: In the end, I can't see him going anywhere but Michigan. The timing is perfect. The Michigan job is open, the football program has been down for over a decade and he's experiencing the ugly side of the NFL - getting run out of SF despite having big success on the field. College was entirely different. They loved him at Stanford, and will love him even more back at his home school. -

Orton Being Underappreciated Again with Bills
negativo replied to The Voice of Truth's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Obviously you'd want an accurate QB who also has the heart of a lion. However, given one or the other, I'll take the warrior with low completion % over a coward who looks good in practice but meekly folds in the games. -
Orton Being Underappreciated Again with Bills
negativo replied to The Voice of Truth's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I appreciate Orton for what he is: A journeyman QB who would make a competent backup. As starter he's a poor man's Jay Cutler. The Bills are winning despite him, not because of him. In all seriousness, I'd rather have Tebow. At least he'd fight to the death for a 1st down or touchdown, provide substantial rushing yardage, be a leader on and off the field, play his best in the clutch, and hit the occasional deep ball. Orton is gutless, and you can't afford to have a coward at the most important position on the team. -
