  1. Dag nab it, you beat me to it, Lothar... You and your hand people.
  2. Full name: Tutankhamen Marqués Reyes. What are we doing in free agency you ask? We are looking for cool names. That's what. Get this - We signed King Tut. The only guy in the NFL older than Marv and Ralph. By 3000 years nonetheless.. BTW - This is supposed to be funny and knoct a knock on either of those fellas. (place smiley here)
  3. While this "system" may not predict any one players future career performance, over the long haul, if it accurately models player behavior, then it will probably out perform pure scouting alone. I am sure past performance is a very statistically reliable indicator of future performance.
  4. a very distinctive voice is good for the board. even if it ain't real.
  5. On the question of the ability to get drunk? I find Buffalotone to offer a more compelling case.
  6. Not then, now. We are in the here and now. And right here right now, Doug Flutie is better. He can at least move.
  7. McNair is now Drew Bledsoe without the arm. Stick a fork in him.
  8. And if you extend him out past 2 years you are looking at maybe a 4-5!! year contract. With his injury history, I can't see him lasting 5 years. I would say he is going to demand more money today for a 5 year contract than he will in two years.
  9. Thats not made up. Larry Felser never makes stuff up.
  10. I might not draw the same conclusion, but that is a great job on a great take with some real information behind it. Post more like this. I feel smarter already.
  11. I'm really good at something - I'm really good at sinning.
  12. I don't understand. Eric WANTS to play for the Bills. At the current signed contract. So if the Bills "insist" he'll play for the big money he wants. If however, he were released, as he wishes, he would be in the drivers seat and able to get a bidders war going. Good too. I think it is fair to assume that no one is going to pick up EM at the 10 mill rate. So the last alternative and worst one, is that Eric negotiates a trade, a new contract and a player for the Bills all by himself? Nah. The only reason he has agreed to look for a deal is to let all the teams out there start talking about how much they would pay him after he is released. Since the Bills must release him. The only slight leverage the Bills have is to hold onto him well past free agency time and hope teams run out of money. That isn't going to happen though. Teams will always have money, and Eric can sit out training camp and get a better deal after someone gets hurt or play for 1 year. This is a long way around saying, Eric is holding the cards in this one.
  13. I believe this is how GM's get into trouble. They think they can figger out a way to get inside these guys heads and THEY will be the one to mine gold. Marv has always had the attitude that you weren't going to be able to do that. And as a result he hasn't often grabbed the head cases. Especially washed up head cases like Boston. Of course we really don't know who if anyone, Marv has "picked up". How much input did marv have in personel?
  14. It could be argued (so I will) that making these offers still has benefits. We are looked at by other players and more importantly by agents - as a good place to visit. It gets you in the game. You might not win the game, but you can't win it, if you ain't in it. What someone else calls "time wasting" (hah!) is what we might call, "doing the job".
  15. Frostee Rucker for Sec of State! Frostee Rucker? That's MR. Frostee to you!
  16. He's not the same player as he was then. Bills aren't the same team and the GM in't the same GM. Time to change the deal. Contracts these days assume no taper off in ability. Crazy but I'm sure it's no suprise to the average player. If the player gets better they EXPECT to renegotiate. Of corse these are guys with a (and necessarily so) somewhat distorted view of their own abilities.
  17. Somebody help me out here. According to this story http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Football/NFL/200...498418-sun.html Israel gets his $1.8m signing bonus EVEN IF THE BEARS MATCH? Is the author wacked or is that really how it works? And then how does that count against the salary cap?
  18. I find it hard to agree on this logic "that player is a little too good" as much as the logic " we never should have won that Cincinatti game."
  19. But you have to go through the bad to get to the good. Can't just sit around and draft number one qbs until one hits right out of the chute. Your luck just won't be good enough. What's better? six players of 1.5 years each of stink and 0 years good (9 seasons). Or, 2 players with 2.5 yrs stink and 4 years good (9 seasons, 1 washout and 1 keeper for 4 good years). BTW, having a good Qb provides an opportunity to bring along the backup for 3-4 years of development. That is part of the importance of having a reliable starter - it keeps the francise stable. And even when the starter is gone, there can be additional years that are a result of the good play of that qb. For instance, SF for a long time had Montana - Young. Montana made Young because Young didn't have to get shelled his first 2-3 years. Which makes me wonder what happened with Kelly? Maybe in retrospect, we should have contiuned to play todd collins longer? Or Reich for 2 years and groomed a good replacement. It seems that our fortunes took a turn because we were not able to plug in our own Steve Young.
  20. All right already. Since no one else can be bothered, I'll take the responsibility (as only a friend would) and tell you. You're a moron. Now, go find that rock and get comfortable under it. And you got a little piece of green something stuck in your front teeth.
  21. Please make it stop. I say we evaluate all great men, but first subtract all the great accomplishments. Well - 4 of em anyway. Pasteur - take away that thing about bacteria and he's just some loser from the 19th century. Lincoln, so he won 1 - take that away, he's just some oaf off the prarriee. Edison? Take away the light bulb, the phonograph, the telephone (hey, leave him alone he's on a roll) and and and the victory over the japs and what do you got? Nothing. Not a ring amongst them all. They are nuthin. Or better yet, just make this post stop.
  22. Until then, both the Seahawks and the Vikings are caught in limbo with their remaining cap dollars. 634973[/snapback] Actually it looks like only the Vikes are caught in limbo. Since the Seahawks can opt out of the whole thing at any time. In which case if it drags on, the Vikes outsmart themselves if they lose. Strikes me as a chump move though however it eventually plays out.
  23. I don't care. Just as long as he's got a high motor.
