  1. I think he is too small.
  2. Hold on now! Time to develop for a wide receiver is 3 years. Not 1 and not 2. That just is. There may be some other knocks against him, true. But even the Moldy one took 3 years. I really think running backs are the only ones that should be ready to go in year 1. And maybe long snapper. And kicker. Anybody want to do a project and find out the rest of the positions? Course my 3 could be all wrong...
  3. Say what you will about Marv. But Marv will absolutely NOT have a problem with 2 rookie boys fighting over the rock. Marv will handle that. The locker room is where Marv is a Hall of Famer. Maybe the greatest locker room guy since Lombardi. That is about the only certainty in next year.
  4. We do have to be pragmatic in our thinking however. Remember how EVERYONE like Drew Bledsoe when he came, but when he went it was - well it's Donahoes job to figure this out. So we see that the fickle crowd wants long term thinking, but win now. I know a few football guys we'll call them. When they are asked about JP, let's just say there is more doubt than certainty. And while the jury is still out on JP and will be for the next 5-7 years (ask Todd Collins about that!) when all is said and done: it's more likely that JP will not be the man for us next year, than he will be. Just playing the numbers. IF that is so, we need a quarterback. And we need to spend this year developing a new one in order to be competitive in 2007 and winning in 2008. We have a rare chance this year. This kind of chance only comes around once every 10 years for a franchise. If we ever want to "win it all" we will do that with a superstar at either QB or RB or both. If we want to be good, we can get there with intelligent drafting, and consistently good FA pickups. But if our objective is to bring home the trophy, we need a superlative QB. We have endlessly researched how you do this - draft, trade, Europe, etc. And while the secret to getting one remains just that, there is no question that pulling the trigger in the first 2 choices is an advantage that only a few teams get. As it has been said on this board, we only get one of these picks. So picking up a tight end is cool, and may be reall fine with a successful JPL, but if the odds are against JPL being lighting in a bottle, the practical choice is a stud QB. Now, I'm not sure I am in a position to evaluate just how good the Leinart, Cutler, Young crew is. Well, I know I'm not. BUT, if Marv, Tom and company pick a QB, I'm not going to puke in my Wheaties. I will see it for what it is. Lack of objective faith in the current QB roster, and a belief that the chosen one is truly lightning in a bottle. I don't need to remind anyone, that JPL was not ANYONES favorite QB in his draft. Upon reflection what was said was, he's almost as good as anyone. But on gameday on Sunday, almost ain't good enough. We need the best. If we get a chance to get the best, we are well served by getting it in the last chance we may get for the next 6-10 years.
  5. The new name of the 2006 Bills. The Lunch Bucket Gang. We're going to the Super Bowl with blue collar dudes on baloney sandwiches.
  6. The final piece of our Superbowl puzzle falls into place! Go Bills!
  7. Actually perception counts for absolutely nothing. If some 20-somethings choose to mock Ralph as an old fool - knock yerself out. Buffalo has got to be the only place in the country and maybe the world, where people actually worry about what the "perception" is about the place. Personally I think the place is a dump. But I sure as heck don't care one whit what someone in LA thinks about it. Do you think the French care what you and I think about Paris? I don't define myself by how the Bills do, what the city I happen to live in looks like, or by the weather of the moment. Much less by what someone thinks of those things.
  8. Your Google Service presents: The Two Gay Irishmen by Red Peters with the Smokin' Cockneys The whole clan met at Galway Bay where seamen push up stools they were giggling like the Coleens and playing pocket pool they washed their balls in stout that night and bid their last good-byes "We're off to kiss the Blarney Stone, so zipper up your flys!" 9. Hey if we can't get Frerotte or Bentley, maybe we can still resign Pike, or Talley, or Bennett? oh, it's the flashbacks again. we were warned about them.
  10. The Thuurman move is all-time classy football player leadership. You would have thought that EM might have learned about that along the way. But you can't expect these guys to be great at everything. No sarcasm intended.
  11. Let's address this here rather than a new thread. But the typical deal for a Free Agent involves a signing bonus plus a multiyr deal to spread that over. Of course. Problem is if you pick up an FA that can help you 1 year and then croaks in yr 2. You are left eating cap money at the end. So old players, Ruyan and Washington are just begging you to eat cap. Now nice young lads like TKO are what the program is all about. My personal fave has always been very young FA's. But that takes football skills to pick out. I figure that the TWash's and etc are folks I already know about and so does every other GM. So we aren't going to get anywhere picking those guys up. We need to find the hidden gems in NFL Europe, and among the very yound FA/s.
  12. Yep. If they was smart. But they ain't. Smart is when you have your cake. And you eat it. Greed is when you have your cake and don't eat it, cause the other guy has more cake than you. Greed isn't good. It's usually stupid.
  13. When do you think we will all learn that even though the Pasties are inherently evil, they are great judges of talent. Might even be better than some of us here at 2BD.
  14. How do you know they aren't here under a different name. Or just viewing? Nobody goes away. One thing I never understood. Was blackice the same as ice? The other thing was - just what what that horrible thing the horrible human did? Not to bring that up again. Just if you know, I remain curious.
  15. I say GET DREW BREESSS! then we will know for sure that is OL that is the problem and we will rest comfortable in that knowledge. As for what happens then, oh, I don't know.
  16. oops we'll try this again... Ultimately the best book on Josh. Right here.
  17. I think TO is a guy you bring in on a one year deal. Worst that happens is he self destructs and you cut him mid season. Best that happens is you can't touch him the next year and he goes somewhere else. But of course these guys don't want 1 year deals. Still, teams try to tie up a guy too long. My theory is, get your guy, pay him his price, for one year. Let's face the truth, a large percentage of guys in the nfl are not as good the following year as the preceeding one. That said, a huge percentage gets more the following year. Which means that you are getting beat out of money. Decisions are being made for 3-5 years, based only upon todays info. And I think that strategy is a loser. NE has let guys go, for this reason. And picked up guys the same way. Of course you better be a good talent judge in this scenario. Are we?
  18. good comment. my comment was a bit flippant and your response was much more considered. But I meant that, just like basketball players, there is a cetain thing that only a rare few have. I'm sure Mike Williams was a big boy and would be a big man today irrespective of work. substitute genetics for size and we got agreement. Question. What is considered to be the age at which you should start the weight room without problems later?
  19. Whaaa? Not sure I follow. Marv's teams did not have a good defensive line or offensive line? What, were the Bills better at defensive back or linebacker? (both of which incidentally are strengths of the defense today). And Marv's audio comments today, sure indicate that he thought very little of letting Pat Williams walk. Can't remember his term, eye twitcher or something. I must have misunderstood your comments - these don't seem to be from KtFABD.
  20. And don't forget that uncoachable quality called size.
  21. Um yeh, because he said so to Ed Kilgore. Nothing like listening to what a man says to give you a good idea of what he thinks. And Marv does have a high believablity quotient.
  22. Because it is. Everyone talks about coaches and players that "know what it takes to win a super bowl". I'd say Marv does. The fact of him being too old. He was too old the first time around.
  23. Yes they do. And I don't want to watch either....
  24. The point that is lost is, under these new "first ballot rules" what in the world is Warren Moon doing in there at all? James Harris is in the NFL, what's warren doing in the CFL? I think Flutie's numbers in the CFL should be considered too. That should make him a lock too. Think back to Warren Moon. Did we EVER fear him? I always was excited to play him. Cause I thought he was junk. And he proved it in the greatest COLLAPSE of all time. I don't feel like lookin, but James Harris is not in the HOF is he?
