  1. Greatest? got to be Cookie the Mitten Man. Greatest in the Jim Thorpe, pure power, kind of way. His is one of the all-time almost stories.
  2. Fine work. OBD is proud of your dogged reporting talents. Well, I am at least.
  3. All is forgiven Willis. Can somebody give Willis an AMEN!
  4. Actually Janes is the leading authority on defense. http://www.janes.com/
  5. Hah! "despite winning alot". Last I checked the object of the sport was to win alot. I'd be happy with a coach that wins alot. In fact, that it my wish for next year, I hope we win alot.
  6. I saw that too. I can't imagine that some of you rachasterians eat that thing? Did you see the ladle full of grease that they throw on an the end? That thing makes a Wendy's Triple look like Healthy Choice. Yikes! They should probably serve it in a metal bowl and just set it on the floor for you. Though it did look like it would taste good.
  7. We have always considered ourselves (Buffalo) to be among the best fans in the country. I wondered if we were losing that distinction with all the crabbing lately even though we brag about being a True Fan in the 4-24 years. So I was checking out the web and found this about Phillie Iggle fans. Are these the best fans or what? Phillie Fans: * They booed Santa Claus in 1968 and pelted him with snowballs as he shouted, "You're not getting anything for Christmas." * They booed the first man to receive a hand transplant, who threw out the first pitch of a Phillies game, and the ball dribbled over the plate. * They jeered for 20 minutes as Dallas Cowboys receiver Michael Irvin lay paralyzed on the field with a career-ending injury. * They beat up Chief Zee, the Redskins mascot, smashing his eye, breaking his leg and stripping him to his underwear. Veterans Stadium was torn down last year. But Philadelphia fans continue to boast about "putting the fear of God" in opposing teams - and fans. Just a discussion starter. Hope nobody gets too serious. The Linky: http://blogs.kansascity.com/crime_scene/dr...n_arrest_rates/
  8. "You will mess with his head" is one of the all-time poorest excuses for doing anything to anyone (other than maybe to a child or a policeman). I don't think I have ever heard an interview with a sports figure who said "well they really messed with my head, and made it hard for me to throw a ball." It's a figure of speach that really never happens. But stinking up the field will get you cut in any sport every time. JP has had plenty of time. Looks like he needs more. His head is the least of our worries. The fact that he can't see more than the 6-8 defensive players off the line, is a problem. We will give him more time. And he will be in the league for 10 years. Freakin Todd Collins is still in the league (I think..) He might get better. Might not. But it won't be because we didn't play him in one game. And it won't be because our coach "messed with his head". what ever that is.
  9. Allow me to offer unassailable scientific proof (as opposed to your simple conjectures). Witness the wild swings in performance, as measured by win loss records of so many coaches in the NFL one year to the next. In most cases coaching is the same. I am sure you could build a case that NFL coaching is far more stable than the player makeup of a team, simply because there are fewer coaches and the player chemistry of the team requires at least 11 players on each side of the ball. Also coaches don't get injured (enough). But when you have a stable team you usually have a stable record. My specific example - though you can probably find better ones: Last years defense vs. this years. No coaching changes yet the defense changed dramatically with injuries and performance changed dramatically. The same could be said for the Offense of the superbowl years. We had remarkable player stablility for the run and once the players were gone, the teams performance changed. And there you have it, pure science at work.
  10. Coaching candidates: 1. Mike Sherman 2. Johnny Coli 3. Jimmy Johnson in no particular order. Found this in the News today: HELP WANTED: Sports management. Experienced. Bring your sack.
  11. Theres plenty of time for coaching. Not sure if there is enough time to get enough players. IMHO coaching accounts for about 6% of your success. Maybe one win a year. Players otoh are what plays the game. Fact is, Malarky was in the end what Malarky always was. An indecisive "tuff guy", who never really could be a leader. If he had strength of character, he would've quit before he fired all those guys. But he dumped them and then thought, "ah too much trouble". Good riddance. The 6% he contributed was cr*p anyway. This move, unlike the others, has 0 impact on the Bills future. One way or the other.
  12. It would seem to me that Mike Sherman has the best credentials of any HC candidate out there now. With 10 openings, he is probably the favorite in each city. We are not known for winning bidding wars. Someone give me a reason he would come here even if we wanted him (which I am sure we do). BTW, we do have to interview a minority candidate. Who will that be?
  13. I like the term set back 3 years. As if 3 years did anything for us 3 years ago. You make it sound like there is some magical progression that we go through every year. There ain't. Many or even most of the players we have on the squad won't be here. Heck you and I might not be here in 3 years. Right now we are 5-11. In 3 years, I hope we have players that play better.
  14. And just so's you remember, said Polian thinks Marv is great. Perhaps I value his opinion over The bill from the city (otherwise a font of wisdom this dopey sandbox) and other ageists? If your greatest knock on levy is that he is old, you aren't showing much football acumen. Players DO get old (ie lose physical skills), but coaches do not get fired for getting old. They get fired for one reason only, they lose.
  15. betcha it works better than the gadget plays we've tried over the last 6 years. btw, what does the single wing look like?
  16. Ha Ha! I love this argument. With these players he should have performed at a level that surpasses any football team ever! Woah. That is setting your sights pretty high. Fact is that D over 4 years won a lot of games. We won them the old fashioned way, were we gave up fewer points than we scored. I re member winning in Minnesota I think 9-6? Walt Corey did a fine job. You tell Bruce he was playin soft. For petes sake, Bruce didn't even use the Stairmaster soft!
  17. Good opine. The question is what exactly has changed in managing a football team in the last 8 years that is different than the previous 8? I mean on one hand we want experience (which I believe Marv has). We want accomplishments (regardless of any of our dumb a$$ opinions, he is in the Hall of Fame. Many football experts consider him one of the greatest football men of all time). So what radical improvements have been made in the last 8 years? It's not like Marv only knows student body right or the wishbone.
  18. Not that there's anything wrong with that...
  19. So true. We constantly readjust our standards ever higher. After 4 consecutive near misses, were we satisfied with Wade? Nope. But we would be now. Last year we ran out of town the QB that won 9 games and just missed the playoffs. But I would like to remind everyone. That 5 wins can still look good. After 2 years of 4 total wins, we might look back and pray for Williams to come back. Heck we have people on this board, that wish we would have LOST in Cinci. In short, enjoy each game as it's own contest. But I know that it's only a matter of going 2-6 next year before we hear "The Game has passed Marv by". And if Tom Donohoe has Minn 8-0 with some creative draft day manoeveurs all we'll hear is - how dumb Ralph is for letting him get away. As fans we reassess history on a weekly basis.
  20. Some seem to have Martz going to Oakland. With the shortage of qualified (read experienced) HC"s probably Martz will stay a HC>
