  1. Regardless of how many fans talk about it, you don't draft to win the superbowl. You draft to win your division and you draft to win 11 games. IF you get that far, you figger out what to do next. But it would be lunacy and crazy thinking to expect that winning the superbowl was a factor in how we draft on day 1 or day 2. The route to the bowl is thru the division. And the pros know to take care of business first and then think about the fun stuff. You know what you have in Miami, NY, and NE. Now go beat them. Then we'll talk.
  2. Not reading the playbook is a sin. But what grevious sin has Willis committed? Other than playing thru what, a broken rib cage? Marv doesn't listen to the media. So media misquotes/context misques are not going to bother Marv at all. It says here that Willis will play for the Bills in 2007. Too good a deal for the Bills. Where is the WM replacement coming from?
  3. No, but I think they are looking for you to buy a couple of jerseys. and maybe a beer cooler.
  4. I never heard of him. OTOH, that is a football name. Are you sure that isnt a character from a novel? Tank Tyler, if the NFL doesn't work out, he should become a private detective. Sunlight streaming thru venetian blinds. Woman, dressed frumpy, sits filing her nails as the shadows leave a stripped pattern accross her face. Cue '40's music. " oh, Mr. Tyler, there is a lady on the phone. She says her husband disappeared the night they were supposed to get married in Las Vegas. And the landlord just called and said we are three months late in the rent......" Pan across desk with pictures of football related shots. Close up on a nameplate on the desk. Tank Tyler - Private Dick
  5. As the first player to roll in under Free Agency, I suppose this is a little like finding a set of floor mats under your Christmas Tree. OK, that's nice and all, but kinda was thinking of something with a bit more sizzle.... BTW, ever SEE Mike Rockwood up close. Freaky. You wonder what the coach in High School said when he laid eyes on him...
  6. lessee, who needs a linebacker. hey wait aminit we do! under the rationale that current players are worth more to their own teams, then why would we be trading spikes? cut him, maybe so for value reasons. But nobody who needs LB's as much as us is going to pay more than us for him. Unless they are crazy. And there aren't many gm's that are going to spin the wheel on a damaged player. So trading him is out of the question. then again, Bill Parcells made Drew Bledsoe his starting QB. So I guess anything is possible..
  7. That I think is the point. Kelsay is one of Marv's boys. Heart, not motor. He is a nucleus type of player. What I mean by that is he is the kind of player that the team builds around. OK, maybe not the Hall of Famer, but you can count on him, and move on to other worries. Shane Conlan type?
  8. BTW - great work on the research. Nice #7 post. WTG!
  9. If Willis stays we have a #1 running back. And a #1 qb. And a #1 safety, (thank the football gods). We are READY! What we need is a #1 Defensive Lineman, I'm thinking.
  10. unfair. guy gives opinion and undisputable physical evidence to backup his point. you say there is 4 years of contrary evidence? give 1 freakin example and then you can use the little smilies. Otherwise, rational, fact-based arguments trump whinny my crap don't stink posts with smilies. Hey this is TBD. The bar is higher here.
  11. sorry if it's just that i'm stupid, but I can;t figger out if what sketch is sayin. I can get everyone else;s position - keep the tix, or dump the bills. but sketch is being a little too ambiguous for me. Now myself, I'd say, "if you don't pony up the money, you can't ride the horse". This years horse might not be a sure thing, but it should be a good ride. And it's the only ride you gonna get. Unless you think you would rather pay double for Cleveland tix. Yeah that could be a good thing. Cleveland tix. Or Jet tix, or Giant tix, or Bungle Tix. Or UB Bulls tix!!
  12. Hah hah, back in the day, stupid rants got the D they deserved. Fast forward to today.......... of course I'm not gettin collich credit for this either....
  13. It's your opinion and you are welcomed to it. But maybe you ought to check out rootin for say, Air Force. Great uni's both on and off the field. And terriffic fella's. To me however, losing is like, really crummy. And ever since I was past the age of 7, I looked at football as a sport. It's played by men. Men who have all kinds of problems both on and off the field. I like personalities. I like rebels. I like taunting, and dancing in the end zone. I like real interviews, with nitwits who can't speak english. I like hearing about what goes on in the huddle and on the bottom of the pile. I like Conrad Dobler being called Mad Dog and head slapping Fred Smerlas. I like Jim Kelly puking 6 hours before the superbowl, and 3 hours before every game. I like white shoes. I like the sack dance. I like players jumping in the stands and throwing the football in the stands. I like the idiot running around on the roof of the Ralph. And tearing down the goal posts. I like the chicks that toss their tops on 20 degree days. I like playing King of the Hill outside the Ralph on game day all likker'd up. I like football. I like mud and I like beer. All three together is like heaven. And I like it!
  14. Coy is Marv's new Mark Pike. You can't always chase the next big thing. Sometimes quality and consistency are the backbone. Sounds like vintage Bills or current Pats. And those aren't bad models.
  15. He has a ring. And a pro football contract. And he is one of 53 or so champions of the world of NFL football. I'd say you would have to pretty cool to top that. Go ahead, let's hear your vitae. Brother...
  16. Bills sign players like Triplett based on pile o' green. They just say, "offer lasts until midnight". That's what makes them stop looking. And don't think the agents are not at the same time out making calls to other stops that say, "don't waste my time, but are you willing to top this?" If no, then I won't bother you, you don't bother me. Quality of life, schools and etc. have 0 implication. We wish to think they do. There are no intangilbles, just straight up money. Now, what about the patriots you say? It IS possible for a player to take less guarenteed money (pile o' green) to play in a situation that they think will make them ultimately more successful. However, I submit, that is just looking for a payoff later on down the line - a bigger pile of green. Like a backup getting a starting slot. It's not the pride thing. It's the fact that becoming a starter means starter money. Maybe even superstar money. Can't make plays if your'e on the bench etc. I still say that is all about money. The only subtlety is the schedule of payments/incentives. Last point. Since the agents structure the deal. Agents get paid % out of the take. Agents don't take payments in % of quality of life. Money man, it's the only thing.
  17. That might be true if indeed it wasn't just about the money. However it is just about the money. Or better said, it's about the money. And the amount of it. Money. Biggest pile, soonest wins. Everything else is the nice stuff you say after you get the biggest pile. Ever go to a garage sale and see 2 guys making over 50k dickering over a quarter? Ever buy something on sale? Would you move to make 3 million dollars more? I would and so would you. So just sit back and see if we can put the biggest pile of money in front of Nate. If we can't or don't want to - We just put the money back in Ralph's pocket. Remember, he didnt spend to the cap this year. No reason to assume that he will next year. So many unknowns. but simple rules. Most money wins. Don't spoil this great fun by obsessing over someone else's pile of money. The 53 man roster we have next year? Them's my bills.
  18. tight end has to block too. Still, 3 td's in 3 games. What former Bill has done better and would qualify as an "upgrade" ? I love the we need a better "x" comments. Of course a better "x" would be wonderful. Some people aren't happy unless it's a hall of famer, having his best season ever, and his best game of the year. Oh and man of the year personality too. If you asked marv today if he had replacing royal on his to-do list, I think he would laugh at you.
  19. Hey how bout this, Meathead stayed. Bills go 2-5. Meathead replaced by Marv. Bills then go 5-2. Bills 7-7. Marv is annointed pope of Buffalo. ??
  20. What happens when stations stop over the air broadcasting? How will that change stuff?
  21. Keep in mind that players change. And change big. That's why Jim Kelly is no longer a top 10 QB. So it is totally fair to rag on a QB one week and 10 weeks later proclaim him the next big thing. Of course flipping back and forth would be tiresome. but it is fair for anyone to have ragged on JP prior to him showing anything. Just as it is fair to start reving up the bandwagon now. But if you are on the fence, ok, just don't go joining the bandwagon today and flip back next week if the bandwagons wheels start getting loose. That is just showing you have 0 insight.
  22. I believe the Jets are 27th in the league defending the run. And since we have the ability to beat you long (as we did), I don't think that they had 9 men in the box. Bottom line is, Mag is a very good runner. The Jets are poor defending the run. OTOH, it was nice watching the beginning of the game and seeing the jawing going on. Heck, it makes the game more fun for everyone. No one, should criticise the way Maghee plays the game. He is full of confidence, he plays hurt, he comes back from injury, he eats a sammie, and he rushes for over a 100 yards. He's not perfect. So he ain't a friggin genius. And he is smilin and stylin all the while. He even shops at my wine store. He defines lunch bucket player. (Said he took the cheese off his sammie. I love those little details...) Just gimmie a ham on rye and let me go back in there, coach! Go Willis!
