Illegal Immigration Takes Its Toll
Taro T replied to 3rdnlng's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
It is mindboggling that anyone argues against that. Yes, I mean you, Mr. Holder. -
People don't get "net worth" vs "income"
Taro T replied to Fezmid's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
He probably worked for the NYS Thruway Authority in a past life. 'Why am I getting Call EZ-Pass notices when taking a 1 exit trip on the Thruway with the brand new tag you sent me; the one where the paperwork that came with it says it's all ready to go?' 'We can't activate your new tag because you have a negative balance.' 'What do you mean there's a negative balance, the balance is $3.97?' 'Right, that's below $4 and is therefore negative and you can't get a tag activated with a negative balance.' '$3.97 is greater than $0, right?' 'Yes, but it's negative. And because you were using an inactive tag, your account will get charged a max toll trip.' 'But the account is in good standing and my other tag works, and now I'm going to have a true negative balance because I used the tag like it was supposed to be used?' 'Yes, but once your account is no longer negative we can adjust the max toll off your account and then you can use the tag.' -
Undercover reporter discovers she doesn't like to work hard

I remember having friends with Poli Sci majors having significant trouble landing a job back in the '80's and early 90's when the economy was going good. Glad you've now found something in your career field but not surprised that it took a long time to find it with the economy the way it is. Teaching majors that refuse to leave NYS upon graduation also have difficulties finding a job even in good times. -
SCOTUS to rule on Obamacare sometime this week
Taro T replied to /dev/null's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
And they didn't do ANYTHING to fix the economics of healthcare. They came up with what is (likely) an unconstitutional adjustment to the health INSURANCE system. The law that was passed had nothing to do with fixing healthcare. And, no, healthcare is NOT the economy. It's a big chunk of it, but had they been pursuing growth policies rather than pushing towards a progressive's utopia, he would have had 8 years with a democratic congress to work towards his progressive's utopia rather than the 22 months he got. -

My guess is that having it overturned is the best outcome from the President's re-election standpoint. Because it won't come across as - we wasted 18 months ramming something uncostitutional through the system when we should have been focused primarily on the economy and national security, it'll be spun as you'd mentioned and the big media are already looking for a story to replace F&F. -
The MERC, Sears, and several other major corporations being already based there wouldn't have anything to do with Chicago 'holding it's own' now would it? How's the rest of Illinois doing? Kind of analagous to NYC and the rest of NYS. Policies that don't crush Chicago simply due to what it already is don't do much to help the rest of the state. And how much better do you think it could be doing if it actually reined in some of it's corruption?

Unbelievably sad video out of Greece...NY
Taro T replied to Buftex's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
But think of the teachers, firemen, and police officers we could hire if Apple weren't raping the consumer to reap such obscene profits. Those profits came from society and society deserves a proper share of them, think of the children. And because Apple is still profiting, they clearly aren't paying their proper, ahem, fair share. -

While he's at it, maybe he could ask them why Apple's windfall profits are good but other companies' windfall profits are bad. -

Another successful implementation of the Summer of Recovery III by our benevolent President bringing more green jobs to our proud nation. Congrats on finding the job. Safe to assume you're still in Syracuse? -
Have I Mentioned Recently How Much I Hate Bicyclists?
Taro T replied to Chef Jim's topic in Off the Wall Archives
RK, I get the sarcasm and all, but this is the 2nd time you've mentioned not stopping at a stop sign with no traffic around for miles; if there truly were NO traffic around for miles, then blowing through a stop sign wouldn't result in an accident would it? If the bikes were ONLY blowing through stop signs with no traffic around, then there wouldn't be a ton of drivers that have seen bikes routinely blow through stop signs would there? Or are the only witnesses to bikes blowing through stop signs the 'good' bike riders narcing on the naughty ones? PS to Sage - Not trying to imply you were the cause of your accident nor that you blew through a stop sign. -
So, assault is no longer a crime? Or are you stating that Trayvon Martin didn't beat up George Zimmerman?

Requesting Prayers for our little girl
Taro T replied to Cotton Fitzsimmons's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Horribly saddened by your loss. I truly hope that your wife has a speedy recovery and that you and your son continue to have good health. Nothing adequately conveys the sadness I felt reading your latest post. -
It's rarely the action that elicits the proverbial @#$%storm but the coverup that gets it fully rolling. Amateur hour indeed.

That's an interesting product you appear to have there. What sort of demand is there for organic pets for cats? Though cats aren't as en vogue as dogs around here, I'd expect that since they are finickier than dogs that they would prefer organic pets to simple run of the mill pets that dogs are good with and though it's a niche market, I could see some demand for the organic pets. Ferrets would probably be finicky as well, so after you really get the cat pet market dominated, organic ferret pets might be a good complimentary market to get into. Good luck with your business and the contest. Unfortunately, I have never been on Facebook so I won't be able to vote for your company.

But, unfortunately, that does make him one of the best Governors NY has had in my lifetime. The bar has been set rather low.

Recommend a good stand-up comedian to watch
Taro T replied to Just Jack's topic in Off the Wall Archives
He can be a little blue, but if you like Engvall, Ron White is in a similar vein and is hilarious. Jon Repp (that thing got a Hemi) is also funny in a redneck sort of way. -
Big Brother is watching. And He wants your vote
Taro T replied to /dev/null's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
In a close election, he may be able to have the infrastructure to turn the tide. If he keeps saying brilliant statements like 'the private sector is doing fine' and then holding press conferences to essentially say 'I didn't say what you heard me say' then it won't matter how fine tuned or skilled his organization is. I expected to see the campaigner from '08 on the stump in '12. Can't say that I've seen that yet. (I'm referring to the skilled politician that made statements that didn't really say much but could get interpreted positively by the listener (more or less) regardless of the listener's point of view; not the politician that was saying the last guy screwed up badly and left a big mess for the '08 election winner to clean up. We're still seeing the latter.) Unless the plan is to lull the opposition into a false sense of security, make gaffs now so that he can have the momentum on his own side heading into November, or go nuclear (dropping Biden for Hillary Clinton) at the convention; I'm really not sure what he thinks he's currently accomplishing with the campaign. -

Fixed it for you Buf. ;} Probably aren't any of his routines on youtube, but one of the funniest, clean comedians of all time is Bob Newhart. 'The Button Down Mind' and 'The Button Down Mind Strikes Again' are pure gold. (Never got to see him live, but if he ever comes to upstate before he kicks off, I'm there.) A few others that were fun to see in person (that haven't already been mentioned) were Jay Leno, Eddie Murphy, and Rita Rudner (she opened for Dennis Miller). Though Eddie's comedy isn't 'clean.' (Again, sticking with people that haven't already been mentioned) On Sirius, Carl Hurley is usually clean and funny. James P. Connolly and the Commedian Bob Marley have some clean funny material as well. David Cross is funny as well. Several that have already been mentioned are hilarious (Mitch Hedberg, Brian Regan, Chris Rock, John Caparulo, Dennis Miller, and Steven Wright (you can never go wrong with Wright)), though except for Wright they can definitely have some blue material. -
President Obama Decries National Security Leaks
Taro T replied to Taro T's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Eh, that one could simply be due to AG Holder seeming to be in over his head. It's not definitely malfeasance, it could just be incompetance. It'll be interesting to see if this story continues to grow legs. -
Let's get the economy moving again

Ironic, progressives bemoan Romney's aloofness. They might want to target a different feature of his personality to show a contrast in personalities that favors the President. -
Very nice story. Good luck to your nephew today. Hopefully your brother can work some more magic.

A hospital? What is it? It's a big building with sick people, but that's not important now.
