  1. They don't typically get to that point. You look across the recent history of this league and you'll find a long list of long-term contracts since the money is guaranteed. This one is a rarity. Do you seriously think the expansion draft actually crossed Hall's mind for even a second? That's a far more outlandish theory than anything else stated here. And it may not necessarily have been in contract years, but I can think of several NHL players who lost significant amounts of money due to injuries. My mind immediately goes to head injuries and to guys like Pat LaFontaine, Paul Kariya, and Eric Lindros. I'd be much more interested in look at the guys who ended their career fairly recently due to injury but still soaked in multi-year contracts after that injury: -Marc Savard (played 25 games out of a 7 year $28 million contract) -David Clarkson (played roughly 2 years worth of a 7 year $37 contract) -Rick DiPietro still looking at 10 more years of checks from the Islanders
  2. So he's willing to risk injury on a one year deal just to help a team with the expansion draft? He's rolling the dice on earning a much bigger contract and there's nothing wrong with that. Still, it's a big game. Strangely enough, he made it on the same day that Dak Prescott's ankle exploded. If it was actually about the expansion draft, which player exactly are they saving because of it? Looking over the roster, you're getting down to the likes of Thompson/Mittelstadt/Girgensons. I really don't see a "you'd hate to lose that guy" beyond the limit of what we can protect among the forwards. Eichel Reinhart Skinner (required to protect) Okposo (required to protect) Olofsson They can protect 7 forwards, unless they want to save more than 3 defensemen. I can't see them too worried about any of the D beyond Dahlin/Jokiharju, so they'll stick to just 3 D. So unless we add another long-term forward or 2, Hall being added to that protection list would still leave an open slot for whichever of the two kids steps up this year. I guess you can now protect both worry-free, but I don't expect both Thompson and Mittelstadt to both thrive this year.
  3. I’ll very gladly show off this new purchase at the golf course later this week:
  4. Rolling the dice on one year with Eichel and then much more open wallets post-covid. Very risky, but hey, it works for us.
  5. It’s tough to read much of anything from what happened today. Very little of significance happened anywhere around the league. The bigger signings, a Markstrom or a Holtby, those are t guys we were ever going to be in on.
  6. I was going to say "every time I've gone to an aquarium".
  7. What would you do about the draft in that situation, set them to the 32nd pick in each round? I'm not really sure how heavily they need to drop the hammer, but it needs to be harsh.
  8. I can't remember a time where we drafted a guy who was described as the best pure goal scorer in the draft. That part is very intriguing, something that is lacking pretty much anywhere in this organization. The only thing that makes me nervous is that I tend to shy away from the late bloomers in these drafts. One complaint I saw somewhere was that they didn't get anything that helps this team in 2021. That wasn't happening no matter who they took. That suggests that people may have wanted to trade it, but look how that entire round played out yesterday. That option wasn't happening either. Best case scenario, short term anyway, is that I want to see this kid lighting up the AHL in 2021-2022 (I believe he'll be old enough, too lazy to look that up). There was no Cozens on the board this year, a guy we're hoping will contribute one year post-draft.
  9. I’m slightly disturbed because this was my immediate thought too.
  10. This draft coverage is a bit ridiculous. The panel’s “speculation” on the pick is always right. They need to stop pretending they don’t already know who the pick is.
  11. Crap. I just randomly turned some Van Halen on here in my office, two songs into the random shuffle and then I see this thread.
  12. I feel like I've heard the league (or maybe it was TSN) state that as a target date, but I could very well be making that up. That timeline makes sense.
  13. His posts (and a few others) make me wish any post with pictures/videos only appeared in a clickable form. Sure, you get Peter Panned a few more times than you'd like, but you have a little more control over what crap you actually have to see. Sure, you can throw someone on the ignore list, but you still wind up seeing it if quoted.
  14. This is so strange right now. The season should be starting right now, but instead we have the draft this week. Has the CHL said anything yet about their plans on when they'll play? I'm still trying to figure out how that will factor into the transfer agreement and guys like Cozens and any potential pick this year being able to play in the NHL.
  15. There's a couple that rides through my neighborhood each day, the husband on a moped and the wife on one of those rascal style scooters that you would see in a supermarket. There has to be some crazy modifications to the latter because she has to be moving at around at least 20 mph on the thing. You could get one of those things.😁
  16. Their next step will be to ask for the grand jurors to be identified. So yeah, you're right.
  17. He's going to look very good playing behind a guy like Eichel. That and at this stage, he may be playing for one last contract (even if it's just one more year). I bet his numbers go up a bit this year.
  18. A bear came a wedding shower at my in-law's house. It walked right through the back yard (mountains of New Hampshire) while the party was inside. I have a really crappy picture of it playing with the swing set.
  19. I wonder how much might pop up in other cities too. My wife's going to be in Raleigh tonight and I'm not too crazy about it at the moment.
  20. When I heard ricin I just assumed Walter White. As it turns out, it probably wouldn't take all that much photoshopping to turn that picture into him.
  21. Beer and fire pit last night. Bring on more!
  22. The weather we have right now in NC? This needs to stick around permanently.
  23. I wonder if Parise has any interest in leaving though. He has a no movement clause so he needs to agree to it. He's another one in the seemingly long list of guys who want to return home and play in Minnesota. But hey, while we're on that note... Hey Bill, I hear that Kyle Okposo would love to go home too.
  24. Minnesota must have something more in the works because they're starting to look Buffalo thin up the middle. Right now it's a mediocre Rask and a bunch of kids (oh, and the huge question marks on hometown boy Bjugstad).
  25. It's good for at least netflix or some other streaming services, depending on what you use.
