Hey, if nothing else we could add to the list of bust first round draft picks who wore a Bills uniform - in addition to our own we also go with guys who have busted elsewhere (even multiple times)...
-
On the bright side, maybe when he's healthy he'll be able to catch the pick-6 INTs that hit him right in the numbers - that would be great!
-
Good thing we have so many other starting caliber DBs on the roster, especially against Brady week 1. Oh, wait.....

Metal fans...is this anything?
The Avenger replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I'm a metal fan, but I can't say I liked this much (then again, I haven't liked much of any metal newer than about 20 years ago). The mix was very muddy - hard to differentiate anything - it just all muddled together. I'm also not a big fan of the vocals, but I'm not much of a cookie monster guy - sing, damnit! Seems like they tried to do a bit of the Killswitch Engage thing with some melodic parts, but that's not that original anymore. Kudos to them for putting together a band and performing - more than I can do, I just wasn't that into it (but I'm an old school thrash guy). -

Division rival players on your Fantasy Team ???
The Avenger replied to maddenboy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Exactly. Fantasy is fantasy, cheering for the Bills is cheering for the Bills. AS KD said, having other players is a great hedge when the Bills aren't doing well (honestly - if my entire enjoyment of football was watching the Bills these past 15 years and not playing fantasy it would have been very grim). I love playing with folks who take their own home team cheering into the draft and hoarde or shy away from certain players - it clouds their judgement where money is at stake.. Same reason I enjoy playing poker with guys who sit there and knock back the drinks - I sit there and have a couple through the night and come home with money in my pocket. -

Did he call to get a phone auth? If he saw a decline and didn't bother to try and get a valid auth before accepting the card then that's a seriously risky transaction - you're basically taking a card without an auth and hoping that you get a valid auth at the time of settlement - if you don't, you don't get the funds.
-
I work with credit card processor all the time in my job, and companies can and do often lose significant amounts of money with credit card charges - it's part of the cost of doing business. In a best case scenario, you swipe your card, get an authorization and an immediate deposit for purchases made at a register - the transaction between the merchant and the bank settles immediately because you can be charged immediately due to the fact that you've received your goods. I work with a lot of retailers selling via the web or catalog and there the equation is a bit different - the order is placed, you get a card authorization from the processor at the time of the order, but the settlement doesn't happen until your order ships to you - that's an FTC rule on when you can be charged. My clients lose tons of money on charges that had valid authorizations at the time the order was made, but somehow the account is closed, etc. before the settlement is made. There's no way to avoid this - it happens to all merchants - a certain percentage of your credit card authorizations will not follow through to settlement and you'll have to treat the transaction as a write-off. If this was a manual credit card transaction it is kind of risky for the merchant - without the ability to do an instant auth/deposit there's a decent chance the funds never settle - the card could have been one that wouldn't have received an auth in the first place, and the longer you wait between the auth and deposit the more you risk that something will happen to prevent setllement. Anyway, up to Cat as to what to do, but from the merchant end they probably deal with this stuff frequently - cost of doing business.

Getting Sunday Ticket discounted or free
The Avenger replied to Ed_Formerly_of_Roch's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I called yesterday: 50% off ST Max $20 off a month for 12 months $10 off a month for 24 months $10 off for 6 months I'm happy with it. Best part is that I didn't have to extend my contract which is up in Feb. I think next season when I'm no longer under contract I'll probably get even better deals when I call. -
Aw come on! That movie was 1987! Not a favorite of mine, but seriously, how do you not know that reference....unless you were's born then....... At work they just hired 3 new kids just out of college - literally half my age. I am refraining from making any refernces to classic movies like Airplane! (1980) for fear that I'll get blank looks in return... Just saw where Sub Pop Records got a letter from a girl at University of Virginia asking if they could get Nirvana to make an appearance in a school promotional video - kids these days....God, I'm old...
-
Yeah - the knees will go. Mine went early from years of playing hoops for hours on end (although a large part is probably just genetic) - I'm 43 and have had both knees replaced (at 41 and 42). As if having knee replacements didn't make me feel old enough, when I went to physical therapy I worked with a woman there who was wearing a name tag that said her name was Jennifer Grey so I made a crack about "nobody putting baby in a corner' - she just looked at me like she had heard it before but didn't really get the reference, so I had to explain it. It was then that I realized that this girl wasn't even born when Dirty Dancing came out - she had no clue who Jennifer Grey was besides some woman on Dancing with the Stars - then I felt REALLY old.....

Congrats and as has been said, cry away - my daughter is only 8 and I already know I won't be able to keep it together when she gets married.....

Update: I called the insurance company and let them know some of my things had been recovered. At first, my claims agent didn't know what to do - I got the feeling that this situation almost never happens. He had to check with management on how to proceed and intially it appeared that we would need to turn over the recovered merchandise to the insurance company. In the end, not much was recovered - the laptop we lost never turned up. The nicer jewelry was pawned but resold before it could be recovered. We got back a blue ray player, a Wii and a few Wii games and some inexpensive jewelry we never even claimed. Because it was such a small amount, the insurance company said I should just keep it, although I had already replaced the blue ray and the Wii. Looks like the insurance company will attempt to go after the suspects in civil court - good luck - a couple of career deadbeats. The way the laws are written the only charges they'll get in my case are handling stolen property - to get burglary or B&E you really have to have something on tape or some physical evidence like fingerprints - good luck. These guys are in their 20s but have already been in and out of jail on things like this - it'll probably continue until they do something serious and get some real time or they get killed - total waste of human life...

Baseball player suspended by team for FB post...

I have season tickets to our local minor league team, the single-A affiliate of the Red Sox. I see this every year - kids who are very young and immature who were drafted high and got more in a signing bonus than I'll probably earn in my lifetime. Some of the guys have really bad attitudes and are pissed that they weren't placed on the major league roster after being drafted - they hate that they are starting in single-A ball and actually have to work their way up. They get into all sorts of trouble. I will say that there are plenty of good kids who have good work ethics and really try hard to make their baseball dreams come true. Some of those guys are hightly drafted and have seen some money already, some are undrafted guys out of the Dominican Republic who make dirt wages to play (I often wonder how guys get along as teammates when one has made millions and the other guy can barely afford his rent). -

Sarah Silverman has a new song/video out
The Avenger replied to Just Jack's topic in Off the Wall Archives
The thing with Sarah Silverman is that she has a certain bright-eyed innocent look and little girl voice which really bring home the contrast between what she looks/sounds like and what she says - you sit there and think THAT girl just said THAT? It makes it funnier. I don't think Amy Schumer does it as well - she says/does shocking things but doesn't have the contrast.... -
Yep - WBC would have been killed - check out this pit they had going...at a memorial service........
-
Well well well - look who DIDN'T show up to protest yesterday in Hollywood, even after they printed flyers announcing it.... I was all set to grab some popcorn and watch the carnage, but I guess somewhere along the line sombody realized you really don't mess with Slayer fans....
-
I see that the Westboro Baptist Church is looking to picket Hanneman's memorial service - they might want to rethink that. I know they live to piss people off, but Slayer fans are a different breed. Slayer fans love violence - they live for it. I've seen small riots break out as rampaging fans leave shows - not satisfied with the aggression and violence they just got during the show. Heck, at the Trocadero in Philly after a show they tore down all the exposed water pipes, flooding and causing severe damage to the place. Anytime I've seen them in an outdoor venue with "lawn seating" they've torn up all the grass and started fires. In any event, if you take a bunch of fans who generally enjoy violence for violence sake and have authority and self control issues, get them upset at the loss of one of their heros and then send some religous nuts out to taunt them, you could have a problem. The funny thing is, so many people hate the WBC and feel they have it coming to them. Can you imagine the smile on Jeff Hanneman's face in the afterlife, seeing implicit or explicit support from the general public after a bunch of Slayer fans beat a religous zealot into a coma? He couldn't ask for a better tribute...
