  1. That's got to be a nasty infection - if anyone in the world can fight off infection well it's a young person in their 20s who is in excellent physical shape. As much as I hate the *Pats, I don't wish that on anyone - that's terrible.
  2. Pretty cool. What's striking is how they didn't see all of these things as features of your portable phone device - they get the whole video phone concept but it is still via a phone booth or corded phone on your desk. So much of it they got right - but they are all things done on your smartphone, and almost evryone has one.
  3. King Diamond probably sings a mean opening to "Handball Night in Denmark".....
  4. And almost 3 years since Ronnie James Dio died......
  5. Oddly enough, here in MA it is not burglary - the statute is very old and specifies that the event occur "in the nighttime" - since the break-in was in the morning we're not dealing with burglary (gotta love these quirks or criminal code).
  6. Agreed anout this not being a gift - not looking to really make money. OTOH, I'm out my deductable and I'm pretty sure that this will raise my rates (this is my second break-in where I've made a claim). I actually didn't want to file a claim at first becuase of the deductable/rate increase, but when I did the math about what was taken I was looking at about $4K and I didn't want to eat that. Now that some (but not all) of my stuff was recovered it kind of changes the equation - if I had suffered a smaller loss I might not have reported it. In any event, I'm feeling like I'm not completely whole at this point and recovery of some of my things isn't changing that, hence my ethical dimemma......
  7. Nothing I provided to the police had any insurance info on it - just a basic report with my narative of what happened and a list of items taken. I've seen the report filed by the responding officer and that report also has no mention of insurance.
  8. Jeff Hanneman, founding member and guitarist for Slayer has died of liver failure at 49. The spider bite he suffered that sidlined him may have been a contributing factor. Damn sure going to miss the man who co-wrote Angel of Death and Raining Blood - I was just cranking Raining Blood yesterday on Sirius as I came home from the airport. My guess is that he'll be permanently replaced by Gary Holt of Exodus who has filled in for Jeff recently - the last 2 Slayer shows I saw had Gary instead of Jeff. Damn sad day if you're a metal fan.... http://www.cnn.com/2013/05/02/showbiz/california-jeff-hanneman-obit/index.html
  9. Yeah - now that the claim is settled I have absolutely no reason to call my adjuster and ask such a question - that "what if" would certainly have him open up the file and probably checking back with the police, something he's not going to do otherwise, hence my quest for advice here....
  10. Yikes - I don't like the sound of that! Just kills me that I'm required to do the right thing and report the recovery, yet the mere fact that I made a claim in the first place, against a policy on which I make regular payments, will cause my rates to be jacked up. The insurance company gets to screw me but I have to be Johnny Good Guy with them.....
  11. So about 6 weeks ago someone broke into my house - made off with electronics and a bunch of my wife's jewelry. I immediately reported the theft to the insurance company and they came out to take a look. Within a few days I bought a bunch of replacement items - a Nintendo Wii, an Android tablet, a blue ray player - when you have 8-year-old kids you can't wait to replace these things. Anyway, I filed all the paperwork and the police reports and just last week the insurance company sent me a check - replacement value for everything listed, minus my deductable and some depreciation on a few things (my laptop). Yesterday the cops stopped by and showed us some pictures of our stolen items - they picked up some suspects and had found a bunch of stuff they either had in their posession or had pawned in local shops - some of it is ours. Excited they found our stuff, but we've already been paid out, so.... ...what happens now? I imagine the ethical/legal thing is that I need to call my insurance and let them know. What happens if they've paid me out for something like a Wii that I've already replaced but has also been recovered? Anybody been through this? Anyone know what my legal obligations are?
  12. Metallica - Tokyo '98 - last night of their world tour. The Japanese audience was so polite, sitting in their seats (many in suits having come right frm work). First Metallica show I've seen where the crowd didn't sing along with every song. The only part the Japanese audience could sing was the Marianne Faithful "Da Da Da" parts from "The Memory Remains" - very odd to go from no crowd noise to thunderous "da da das"! Slayer - Hell Awaits Tour '86 - When the band came on the mood was so dark and so agressive you got a feeling in the pit of your stomach - this was going to be an event... Suicidal Tendencies/Pantera '90 - Pantera as an opener - killer set. ST comes on and the lights go down - open with "Can't Bring Me Down". As soon as Mike opens with "What the hell is going around here?" the lights come up and the crowd explodes. I get body checked - hard - by a very big solid guy, who, it turns out, is Phil Anselmo - after his set he figured he's hit the floor and mix it up with the fans for ST....
  13. Favorite tweet: Remember when you used to watch 24 and say "How does all that s**t happen in a single day"?
  14. I just got back from the marathon - we go every year to support our Children's Hospital partner runner - it was an absolutely perfect day for the race - we were at the halfway point and not the finish line so we are OK and trying to confirm our runner and his family are OK - terrible.....
  15. On a 2 week break from 60 weeks of chemo - that is brutal - amazing that anyone, let alone a little kid could have the strength to do that. Godspeed to him and kudos for Nebraska for finding a way to give him some joy in a really tough fight.
  16. Rae Carruth, although he's not due to be out until 2018....
  17. I just called Buddy to ask him if he had Prince Albert in a can - he seemed pretty confused by the time I hung up......
  18. That's the problem - the organization is so starved for signs of talent that when someone shows flashes they immediately rush to do a big, long term deal. They made exactly the same mistake with Jauron - the minute he got on a streak they extended his contract (lest anyone else come and scoop him up), and as a result he stayed at least a year longer than he should have (and they still had to pay him to leave). Same situation with Fitz - paid him too early, it didn't work out and now it's cost time and money.
  19. At least he's well spoken - if this football thing doesn't work out I'm sure his English degree will serve him well......
  20. You'd hate me - I have a Flying Spaghetti Monster on my car......
  21. People who take forever at the ATM when there's a line of people waiting. You're not going to solve the Greek debt crisis or prop up the monetary health of the Euro at the ATM - get your $40 and move on pal!
  22. This guy should decline all invitations to be at the draft live - this has all the markings of they guy the camera cuts to as his stock falls further and further and you get to see his agony on live TV...
  23. My PC hard drive crashed so when I bought a new drive and rebuilt the system I went with Windows 8. Installing it was a bit of a pain - installs assume an existing Win7 install on the system. I got the OS to install but I actually had to call Microsoft to get it to activate (luckily Microsoft tech support is actually pretty good). I've been using Win8 for a few weeks - I'm not seeing a huge difference on a desktop machine - I usually just stay within the destop screen which acts pretty much like Win7. I suppose if I was on a tablet I'd avail myself to more to the tile and apps that are now part of Windows, but I haven't done much with that yet. At the end of the day things are pretty much the same as they were on Win7 the way I'm using it.
  24. To be fair, it's hard to get a fast 40 time when you're running with a cup of purple drank and trying not to spill it...
  25. Has nobody entertained the thought that we might just earn the #1 spot in the 2013 draft the old fashioned way - by winning 2 games or less in 2013?
