  1. And not to bash on McD, because I do agree he is the best DC on staff, but that year was also Cam's MVP season where he was lighting it up to big, early leads and the D could just pin their ears back and attack. Hopefully, we get that performance out of Josh and the Offense and history can repeat, but it is not like the Defense carried the Panthers to 15-1 and a Super Bowl. The fact that he is "the best DC on staff" is a different discussion. I'm really not as negative on all this as I come off in this thread. I'm just giving it a side-eye because a Defensive HC taking over playcalling is usually more a warning sign that anything else.
  2. They have KC, Cincy, and SanFran at 11.5 wins Bills, Eagles, Jax, at 10.5 Dallas, Cleveland, NOLA, Jets, Dolphins, Chargers, and Lions at 9.5 For some perspective
  3. Well let's check the list of those that have... Doesnt mean McD can't buck the trend, and all of these are different teams in different situations, but... That said, I hope it goes great. I'm not a doom and gloom guy, just brought it all up to discuss it. Would love to see a more aggressive Defense like the one they had in Carolina.
  4. Yeah, Kraft saying it's up to Belichick was his nice way of telling Meek "no ***** way"
  5. @FrenchConnection put some good lists together early in the thread. Mostly offensive coaches for whatever that is worth. The defensive coaches listed didnt do too hot. But not sure any correlations can be drawn from that. And to me, it doesnt matter if a bunch "do it". How many do it well? How many handle the in-game decisions well? I have to go through the lists again, but I know that Bengals fans were CRUSHING Taylor early in the season for a number of really bone-head calls and clock managements. So just because they are, doesnt always mean its a good idea. But "Reid and Belichick" so 🤷‍♂️
  6. Any qualification of "current plan", "for now", "right now", etc. When the fans are looking for a solid statement on the actual plan for the season. It's minor, but coaches always use those qualifiers. Not a big deal, just something to note for the discussion here on what else could happen. Todd Bowles, Dennis Allen?
  7. You're both right. Most of his wear and tear was from refs allowing defenders to tee off on him, often cheap and illegally. And then he hurt himself playing defense.
  8. The problem is he isnt negotiating. He has a single demand, take it or leave it. He's gonna have quite the shocked pikachu face when the NFL decides "leave it".
  9. Brady is still here. He is a William & Mary guy too so not likely going anywhere without a big promotion. Chargers and Jets interviewed him this year, but went with other guys.
  10. Your 2nd video was a pass from the pocket, but I know which play you meant to post against the Raiders. Wasnt he getting to the sideline tho? And there was no possibility for him to slide in the 1st one. Probably wouldve ended up with more cheap shots to the head like the Miami slide I posted above. All in all, as a runner, it's better to do the hitting than get hit.
  11. I dont want him gone. I HOPE he is here for a long time because that means we're winning. Superficially, I really just meant contract-wise. But... if you've already "fired" your DC and have to take over play-calling as a last resort of accountability, then his seat is warming up. And if we have another typical collapse, Terry wont have much of a choice. We already made the first step towards the big change.
  12. Yep. Josh will be a Bill the next 10-12 years. McD may not make it past next year. Terry is writing far bigger checks to Josh than McD. Josh does what Josh wants as long as we're winning.
  13. When Josh just runs: When Josh gives himself up and slides:
  14. 99% of the time when Josh is running the ball HE does the hitting and the Defender takes the punishment. There have been maybe 2 hits in his career that he took the brunt of. He is far safer running the ball and delivering the wood, than standing in the pocket while defenders tee off on him.
  15. I agree, and this "announcement" makes it clear that The Bills/Pegula/McD wanted to move on from Frazier and gave him a way of not getting officially fired. I also agree that McD is for sure the best DC on the team.
  16. Exactly, and that's why in his 6th year, Reid had TWO offensive coordinators in Marty Mornhinweg and Brad Childress to manage the offense and call plays.
  17. To be fair he said "calling the defense inadequately" not that the defense has been inadequate. And to be fair again, it is possible for coaches to change schemes over the years. It could be that McD is looking to move away from what we have been mostly running. Not that he has been unhappy with it for 5 years. I'll be patient. I lean more homer than not. I hope we do see a big change to the Defense. And if we do, then I'll give McD all the credit in the world.
  18. Then this makes the Frazier hiring and the entire last 5 years absolutely confusing and a seemingly huge management misalignment. Crazy he couldnt influence Frazier to do that even a little bit then. I truly hope we see that. Although I do wonder how much of that came due to pressure from Reid being used to Jim Johnson, and the aggressive D background of Ron Rivera. Even stranger that he wouldnt carry that over to Frazier. I guess we'll see! I'm here for it either way.
  19. Of course we, and every team, change coverage between 2, 3, 4, etc. No one ever argued we run the same D every play. But it is absolutely our base and what we build and draft around. Guys who can play in a 4-3 Cover 2 Zone. A pass-defending MLB, with 2 deep Safeties. I do agree that we will see vastly different playcalls by McD than Frazier, but they will be out of the same playbook, with the same base scheme of the Cover 2. I would love to see McD and the Bills get away from that. And that is why I would rather he just bring in a DC with a new scheme and let him focus on that.
  20. Doubtful. Since Lamar is very clear in what he wants and the Ravens already said no. If he found a team that was willing to pay him $270M, the Ravens arent stealing that deal. They couldve done that a year ago.
  21. The Tampa 2 is intrinsically one of the softest D schemes out there. It did ok in 2015 when Cam was lighting it up on the way to an MVP season and they could pin their ears back after taking early leads. Hoping for the same from Josh/Dorsey this year to help out. What do you think he ran in Carolina when he had Keuchly in the same role as Edmunds? We run a Cover 2/Tampa 2. This was "MCD's Defense" he brought from Carolina and enlisted Frazier to call as his proxy. What else could he have ran in Carolina?
  22. Offense, offense, offense. Yes, it's good to have an Offensive genius on your team, and Teams will promote the top innovative OCs to HC in order to have that talent in house. But we're talking soft-ass Tampa 2 Defense for our HC. Forgive me for being less than thrilled with the idea.
  23. I've said all over this thread that I can kinda appreciate it from that accountability stand point. I HATE that it has had to come to that point tho. I also think that being the plan all along is a BAD PLAN. Even if you disagree with that opinion. Your red X's have no power here!
