  1. I remember Kuhn Monuments (drove by it every day). Chuck Kuhn was a star basketball player at UB when I was growing up and a member of the family, if I am not mistaken. How is he related to you? Is he still around?
  2. "Gin mill"? Now there's a term I haven't heard in at least 40 years! Of course, I left Buffalo almost that long ago. Yes, it is a local term. My associations with it are the Rose Garden on Wehrle Drive (the Miner family) or maybe the Doat Grill or Whitey's on Genesee Street or Benny's Tavern at Genesee and Bailey (formerly Schwabl's where my grandfather drank his life away a century ago). For a date and a little underage drinking, there was DuBells on Smith Street or a place on Delevan near the old Meyer Memorial Hospital that was very dark and cozy (help me out with a name here!). Am I the only one on TSW old enough to remember any of these? Do any of them still exist? Oh, the agony of getting old!
  3. Have to agree. Christie at 80% is better than the options. He knows the Buffalo winds.
  4. Happy Birthday to a fellow Buckeye. Enjoy!
  5. That makes a lot of sense and may be the "bottom line" that TD is using. Either way, it is a win-win situation for the Bills. Personally, I hope we keep him - we cannot get (for his '05 salary) and do not currently have another comparable replacement for WM, if he goes down. And I am not willing to write off '05 as a building year at this point. Too many aging players who lead me to think "now or never."
  6. And having a kielbasa sandwich and a pitcher of Genny. No wait, his name his not Magaski! Maybe something is up!
  7. Not a lot of sympathy from this quarter. How many kids would love to have his opportunity? He blew it - bye, bye. Again. where are those TSW gurus who were demanding that we draft him? It's amaxing how no one will now fess up to it!
  8. Sounds like Mike Pucillo! Spare us, please.
  9. Add Lindell to that group. He is the only one who has been criticized for what he has NOT been allowed to do on the field (attempt long field goals). Meanwhile, what he hs done HAS been pretty impressive.
  10. For those of us old enough to remember Sid Caesar's Show of Shows, this is a great loss. A real talent. I'll always remember that classic "the clock." RIP, Howie.
  11. I hope nothing happens to him and he gains 1800 yards. But, if it does, guess what? We (currently) have the best back-up in the NFL. Grumble all you like and insult him, but his name is Travis Henry.
  12. This does not sound good. Joe needs your wishes and prayers. Please take a moment to offer them.
  13. You may be right. I was thinking that they might have all pulled some other muscle while laughing so hard at him
  14. Yes, ON THE FIELD these two were both warriors with considerable talent who gave it their all. The hostility seems to be pretty much unrelated to their play and is much more personal, e.g., off-field comments they may have made and alleged behaviors. And, oh yes, two attributes over which they have no control - Flutie's height and Travis' intelligence. Ever wonder how many who refer to Flutie as "the Midget" or something similar are shorter than he is? Or, ever wonder how many who refer to Travis as "an idiot" are (fill in the blanks)?
  15. "On Sunday, a suicide car bomber blew himself near a U.S. convoy and police station in northern Tikrit, 80 miles north of Baghdad, wounding three American soldiers and two Iraqi policemen, said military spokesman Maj. Richard Goldenberg."
  16. Just left there yesterday. I suggest you tape all Bills games for later viewing and head up into the mountains and the most gorgeous scenery you can imagine. I envy you! That is God's country.
  17. Great news! Please let me know and we'll try to come up from Columbia for a game or two. Hope to see you there.
  18. Welcome, Noah. Does he have an opinion on Travis Henry yet? If not, why not?!! (Congratulations, Dad!)
  19. Bart, my sympathy. Anyone who trivializes your loss has not gone through it. It is a significant one, not easily set aside. How can a "mere animal" mean that much? As my mother was fond of saying, "The more I see of people, the better I like my dog."
  20. Burnt pepperoni and that wonderful sauce, Yes, I confess, I have bought one for $40 via Federal Express too. How decadent! Not as good as a carryout, but a "fix" until I can get back to the "Big B."
  21. Yes, definitely a vote for Ted's. No one has mentioned Ja Fa fa's on Delevan, so (sigh) I assume that they are no longer around. Amazing how things change over 40 years!
  22. Excellent idea. I'd love to see it. Christie in the twilight of his career would be an improvement. However, TD has too much pride (arrogance) to ever reach into the past for a solution. Lindell will be the man, for better or for worse.
  23. Death is Nature's way of telling you to slow down.
