Should the Bills extend Robert Woods?
Bill from NYC replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The problem I see with Glenn is that even in a contract year, he isn't improving. I am not saying that he isn't a good player, but I don't know if he's worth 12 million or so per season. Do you think he is worth that kind of money? Yes and so btw did Jonas Jennings. -
LSU, as great as they are, was made to order for the Tide. You cannot beat them up the middle with Ragland at MLB and all of those DTs. And, I cannot remember a better job of coaching. Sorry to gloat but I am fired up. The Tide is right back in it. ROLL TIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

>>>Upshaw, who stands 6’1” and is a bulky 275 pounds, is physical at the point of attack and rarely surrenders ground in the run game.<<< 275? That is NOT the Courtney Upshaw I saw at Bama. Badol, Courtney used to cover receivers as if he was a defensive back AND, qb sacks, and he was always tough to run on. He was absolutely great in every college game but he had lots of medical and substance problems in the NFL. What I do admire about him is that when he was down and out he went back to have a big time talk with Coach Saban. I don't usually like for the Bills to take chances on guys with substance issues. That said, a healthy and focused Upshaw would be a pro bowl player, and I say this without a shred of doubt. And yes, the work was excellent!

Kouandjio benched for Henderson.. mistake?
Bill from NYC replied to Bocephuz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
After watching CK's entire career on the Crimson Tide, I am going to have to very respectfully disagree. When Bama wiped out Notre Dame and won the title, Kujo was the 4th best blocker on that line. The kid who plays LT now for the Tide, Cam Robinson, is a sophomore and he is already better than Kujo will ever be, but I digress. Kujo is best served by his mobility, not his physical strength. This seems to be limited too due to chronic injuries. I never thought Kujo had the brute strength that is needed to play the right side, whereas Henderson has displayed this, even if only in glimpses. He is by all accounts a wonderful person, but one of the few Tide players that I was against drafting. Btw, imo, the RT position is ever evolving. I am seeing teams give up quite a few sacks from the right side this season. Kelly the Dog pointed this out several years ago but it's really starting to become apparent to me now. The rule changes brought us more and more passing plays, so the position of RT will become more important as time goes on. I could go off on another tangent about how I think that soon, most qbs will be running more and Tyrod will be closer to the norm than the exception but I don't want to bore you. GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
You have said this before and quite frankly, I never really understood why. Is it partially because we are Bills Fans, and since 1990 we have burned no less than 13 first round picks on rbs and dbs? This, without having a first round pick in 2 of those years. A team does get WAY more bang for their buck in later rounds, even with the new CBA. That said, the truly talented players at LT, QB and pass rushing DE tend to go in round 1. Again, historically this matters little to the Bills. We tend to not draft these guys.

Great points here. Left to his own devices, Brandon brought us Marrone and his group of amateurs. I never was a fan of his. I liken Brandon to a fancy, rich version of a barker at a circus or carnival. As for Whaley, I tend to be not so impressed. When he traded SO much to get Watkins, I was furious. I have admittedly felt mixed emotions since, but it strongly appears that my initial instincts were correct. He gave away the store in order to draft a receiver for EJ Manuel (another gem) to throw to. Yeah, if the Bills fail to make the playoffs, it's time to bring in another GM.

2016 Team "Who do we keep?"

As much as I like him, say goodbye to Kyle Williams. He will be a cap casualty. -
Crystal Ball: Top Prospects for 2016 NFL Draft

Nah, Buckner is too big to play corner. -
In defense of EJ (yeah, I said it!)
Bill from NYC replied to BmarvB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The above is all true and it gets worse. I have said over and over that if the Bills thought EJ was clearly the best qb in that draft, they would NOT have traded down 8 spots before selecting him. The draft doesn't work like that at the qb position. Bet here, here is our dirty little Bills Family Secret. We don't even talk about this to ourselves. It's like the junkie or prostitute cousin we don't want others to know about. Ready? Geno Smith is clearly superior to EJ. Someone will whip out stats and tell me I am wrong but I know what I see. And btw it isn't close. EJ: Much nicer kid. Geno: Clearly superior qb. Sorry, but I felt the need to air it out. -
In defense of EJ (yeah, I said it!)
Bill from NYC replied to BmarvB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The only reason that EJ and RJ are not compared to each other on a consistent basis is because they look so different (and NOOO, I am NOT accusing Bills Fans or posters here of racism). On one of EJ's sacks yesterday, it looked as if he had 6 seconds in the pocket. He just stood there and stood there and got crushed. That is what killed RJ, and he was more talented the Manuel imo. RJ had a nice touch and unlike EJ, he was accurate on short and moderate passes. He had a great arm, and he could run without being clumsy. But even with all that talent, he really did suck. Well, so does EJ, and I can't imagine him getting much better. It's a shame too. I never had high expectations for him but he seems like a good kid. -
1) I cannot type enough good things about Darby. He was our best corner on the field today by a wide margin, or so I think. 2) McCoy reminded me just a bit too much of Spiller today in terms of picking up the blitz. But, the man is a good player. 3) Would someone explain to me what was illegal about the block by Woods that he got flagged on? It was on the play that McCoy fumbled and cost us 15 yards. What did he do wrong? Thanks. 4) Cordy Glenn is an uninspired, average Left Tackle. 5) Jerry Hughes was all but worthless today. Seriously. On passing plays, he was handled easily by their LT with no help. And he over-ran most runs to his side, especially on the opening drive of the 2nd half. 6) When the last bolt of sunshine hits the mountain, And the stars start to splatter in the sky. When the moon splits the southwest horizon, With the scream of an eagle on the fly. I will walk alone by the black muddy river, And listen to the ripples as they moan. I will walk alone by the black muddy river, And sing me a song of my own. 7) Kuandjio looked like a fine Right Tackle today. He cannot play mind you, but he sure did LOOK like he can. 8) In the first half, EJ was SOOO bad that I was pining for the days of Rob Johnson. 9) I don't know what the scheme was, but on the Jags 2nd Qtr, TD pass, Gilmore simply backed up and allowed the receiver to get himself into position to make the catch. And I am less than impressed. 10) In the middle of the 1st qtr, EJ hit Gragg with a long pass. I was clapping my hands and just as happy as I could be. Then the replay showed that the pass was lousy, making him turn around for the ball. This is why he fell on his ass instead of waltzing in for a touchdown. I stopped clapping. Gragg then ran a beautiful pattern, out of bounds. Not to be outdone, EJ had Gragg open in the corner of the end zone, but he waited about a half hour to release the pass, which sailed incomplete. Do these two hate each other? 11) This team is good, but not good enough to compensate for EJ Manuel's poor play. Neither were the 76 Steelers. 12) Next week will be a fine time for all of us to rest. 13) GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not to worry folks! I was released yesterday and assessed today. It seems that I am doing too well for home care and the nurse recommended outpatient therapy, which will start Friday or Monday. I get around well; even stairs are fine. I'm just tired, craving cigarettes, and spill a little decaf when I hold it in my right hand . I have hundreds of hours of leave at work so no issues there. The outpouring of kindness on this board means more than words could ever explain. I cannot read these posts without tearing up. I have a great, caring, hot girlfriend lol, wonderful loving daughters, the best group of friends on earth, my pastor who is a woman of God, and yes, this board. Yep, I am blessed and all is well. I missed this game but saw highlights and the stats on NFL.com. Had I seen it my heart might have exploded, or so it would seem. They showed Mario running back into coverage. I had a mild stroke but I think Rex has lost his mind. If I can figure out how to do so, I will watch the Jax game. Thanks again to one and all. Next season, be the Good Lord willing, I am coming up for a game. You folks have no idea what you mean to me. GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ESPN link bait: Bills mis-handle injuries
Bill from NYC replied to boater's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree 100%. My thumb and pinkie on my right hand were numb for almost a year. It was unpleasant but I was so happy to be out of 24 hour a day pain that I pretty much didn't care and then that even went away. As much as I enjoy watching AW play, I would be happy for him to live a normal life not in constant pain. -

Augie, thanks so much for the kind words and I DO thank God for the pain going away. I pray that your son fully recovers. As much as I want this team to win, the neck is not something to play with. Lower back pain feels great compared to neck pain and I wouldn't want AW to suffer like that. -
ESPN link bait: Bills mis-handle injuries
Bill from NYC replied to boater's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I hope not but it wouldn't surprise me. Approx. 8 years ago, I was t-boned by a dwi and had neck pain for 2 months. The pain was constant and unbearable and nothing (including vicodin, which I had given up on) helped. The orthopedic surgeon told me that the pain might never go away but one day it just got a little better, and the pain was soon gone. I don't know how I would have survived had the pain remained. It was THAT bad. And I don't play professional football. I was furious when they drafted Williams. As you surely recall, the picks after him were Dalton and Kaepernick. And make no mistake, he was totally awful at corner. Remember how terrible he was? But he was/is imo, a VERY good safety, and a big asset to this football team. You know how much I care about the Bills, but I would not want this man to live his life in the pain that I experienced. I pray that it works out well. -
Agree, agree and disagree. I am not so fast to push aside the knowledge of Bill Parcells. The bottom line is that he has coached young men to win. The game WAS way different back in the day. This is beyond dispute. I once heard a player named Deacon Jones (not sure how old you are) say that if a player scored a touchdown and danced, he would kill him. People on the panel laughed and he said that he was serious. Deacon Jones btw is black. In any event, I am unwilling to label Parcells a racist for his comments (NOT saying that you did).

Yes, and do you remember when he would flex his muscles and stare at the sky after one of his rare touchdowns as a rookie? This has nothing to do with race imo. Zero. The truth is that many of the highly drafted players were considered great before they got into high school. Many are pampered and perceive themselves as players who can't miss. It's hard to blame them too. Watching EJ on the sidelines, he is impressive. I don't see him pouting and he is into and part of the game, or so it would seem. I have my doubts if he will ever be any good but it looks to me as if his attitude has changed for the better. This can be seen as nothing but a positive.

No, thank you and everybody else who takes time to listen to my opinions. Remember, this post is not titled "all knowing proclamations." I take the opportunity to post my opinions about what goes down and try to promote dialogue with others like me who probably care too much about our beloved football team. Again, thank you. PS: I have the lyrics down for a win next week! GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1) You see, Preston Brown and Marcel can handle the run. Marcel is from Alabama. He was coached and built to stop the run. What makes him amazing is that he can provide pass rush at his size. 2) I have been posting "Thoughts" for many years now. For the record, this is my toughest game to talk about. 3) I spent the first half angry that they were not calling running plays for Tyrod. Marriota was the 2nd selection of an entire draft, and they let him take off. Tyrod is a 6th round pick who the Ravens chose not to keep. He needs to run to be a good qb and I have said this from day 1. More on Tyrod to come. 4) I dropped 4 flights and cracked my spine. Honey come quick with the iodine. Catch a few winks, under the bed, Then head back to Tennessee, Jed. Tennessee, Tennessee, there ain't no place I'd rather be. Baby won't you carry me? Back to Tennessee. 5) The offensive line had absolutely no push. Their pass protection was pretty bad as well. Miller was getting tossed around and Henderson was worse. 6) At one point in the game, I wondered if Kyle Williams had hit the wall. Then, he came through. I have doubted him before and he just keeps proving that he can play football. 7) The long catch by Hogan before the TD (37 yards?) was nothing less than heroic. I use this adjective because I can't come up with a better one. The concentration was striking, and I for one appreciate this. 8) Anyway you slice it, Schmidt deserves a game ball for timely punts. 9) OK, so I did lose my temper, and I am not proud of this. In the first half, Tyrod had lane after lane to run the football. Now, I'm fine thanks but the reason that we won this football game was because Tyrod DID run the football. 10) The TD catch by Hogan was all on him. He adjusted perfectly to the ball. A case could be made that he took over the game on that drive. 11) I make the same case for Gilmore. The one penalty put us in jeopardy, but he was great today. In the first quarter, he made two great plays in a row. 12) We got lucky when the Titans went for a field goal on 4th and 2 from our 7 in the 1st quarter, or so I thought. Were you people glad to see this or were you hoping that they would go for the first down? 13) In all, Corey Graham played a very nice game. 14) Whether or not he is our answer at QB, Tyrod Taylor has the heart of a lion. 15) GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
