Encouragement and concerns going into Tennessee
Bill from NYC replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I voted "other." You left out players such as Kyle and Mario Williams running away from scrimmage into pass coverage. -
Rex came into town as an aggressive defensive coach. He was a tutor to Petine, who turned the defense around. Not only that, he was reported to be having coffee at Tim Horton's with Bills Fans. What's not to love, right? He suddenly transformed to Dick Jauron starting with game 2. I have seen enough of the Levy/Jauron!!! I don't want him to be fired. I would like to see him re-emerge into a coach who supports and demands an attack style defense. Does this premise offend you?

1) Eric Wood is an inadequate football player. Seriously, he cannot play his position worth a s$@t. 2) When they blitzed Graham and/or Robey, it worked. 3) I think that I might be the biggest fan of Mario Williams on this board. That said, he provided zero pass rush today and I am not at all pleased. 4) Tyrod is said to have been nursing an ankle injury. Hopefully, this will explain the lack of rushing attempts. There is no need to treat him like a sacred cow. He needs to take off and run to play to his max. 5) I was losing time, I had nothing to do. No-one to find, I came to you. Wheels broke down; leader won't draw. The line is busted, the last one I saw. 6) Don't get me wrong, I am THRILLED by the fact that we signed Clay. I do however wish that someone would coach him up to find the first down markers. 7) This is not about the game, but being a Bills fan is not for the faint of heart. 8) On one play in the late 2nd quarter, Kyle Williams lined up at defensive end. If this wasn't stupid enough, he dropped into coverage. Memories of Jauron were dancing in my head. 9) 17 penalties? No pass rush despite superior talent on defense? I am not there yet, but I am approaching the point of turning my back on Rex Ryan. 10) I am thinking that Glenn's inability to play well has been defined by injuries that we did not know about. I hope so, because Kujo wasn't exactly tearing up the field, ya know? 11) Do you know what Thigpen needs? I will spell it out: A) A special teams coach who will explain to him to NOT call for a fair catch inside the 10. B) A head coach who will take responsibility for this. C) Both. 12) Darby continues to impress. 13) Marcel was NOT impressive today. For that matter neither was Hughes. Could they be weighed down by the 175 million dollars or so in their pockets? I hope not but I am willing to, at this point, blame it on the utterly stupid defensive scheme, and I point the blame right at Rex. 14) We are now in a must win situation next week. Nothing new to Bills Fans, right? Let us please prevail in London. 15) Karlos Williams can play football!!!!! 16) GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wasn't calling him a young Erik Williams. That said John, the Bills have fielded MUCH worse at RT. -
Cleveland Browns are a disaster...

Would that be the team that paid him 36 million dollars? -

You forgot starting Pears at Guard. There was little to no chance of him succeeding at that position. He is a RT. Period. -

History tells you not to count on it John. -
Tyrod Taylor- The Sitting a QB Approach
Bill from NYC replied to JPLoserman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
KTD, Pat Kirwin has been talking about sitting qbs for a few seasons for weeks now. He mentions Rodgers, Tyrod and yes, Ryan Mallett. Mallett has a 100 million dollar arm and a ten cent head. That said, he won a football game last week without his left tackle. He just might win some more games too. Maybe it helped him just to be on a team around people who know what they are doing, I don't know. Teams play the spread in college these days. It is SO different in the NFL and the transition seems to be taking longer. What I like about this is that in the scenario that Tyrod is the real deal, the trade value for EJ will increase, perhaps by a lot. GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -

Predictions for New York Giants Game
Bill from NYC replied to NextYearGuys's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, let's hope that the game will be played and that we can watch it given the pending hurricane. That said: Bills 20 Giants 16 Hard to say why but I am sensing a close game, with lots of rushing yardage from Tyrod. GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
Cleveland Browns are a disaster...
Bill from NYC replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No, let me apologize and you are right in that a weak, depleted secondary can truly hurt a team because even the greatest lines are unable to provide pressure on every down. If Darcy plays at this level or improves, he will be a total steal. It's hard to break into the NFL as a corner. Sometimes they take a few years to develop, and the next thing you know they are UFAs demanding 50 million dollar and up contracts. I for one would much rather spend the money on a quarterback and big guys. -

I will brush the sarcasm aside and answer this. Sure Darby seems like a great pick, one btw I didn't complain much about. And remember in theory, we would have had a first round selection in front of him if not for the Watson trade. Now, think back if you will. The Bills waited a very long time to try to replace Jim, Andre, Thurman and Bruce, and by the time they did try it was far too late. They spent years using their best resources on defensive backs, and it got even worse when Levy reappeared as GM. After 3 weeks the Bills look good, but imo they must be prepared for trouble ahead. Kyle is getting old. Glenn isn't playing so well. Mario can't stay great forever, and let's hope that Marcel keeps his head on straight with 100 million dollars in his pocket. Another center would be nice as well. And remember, this gets that much worse if Tyrod gets injured, etc. So yes, once again please count me out of the first round defensive back club. This is a parade that I will step back from, and I nominate you personally to lead. -
Spiller M.I.A. in New Orleans
Bill from NYC replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think that his post was on point. Spiller was a stupid draft pick regardless of who selected him. The fact that he was offered a big contract IS a concern. Whaley was very lucky that he did not accept it. And so are we as Bills Fans. -

Your post is a very good one but it is not all encompassing. I loved the reference to the Bills drafting Spiller and have been blasting this kind of stupidity since the day he was selected. That said, our problems ran WAY deeper. Please, go on drafthistory.com or any other draft site and check out how many 1st round picks have been devoted to defensive backs and/or running backs. If you ever want to know how to lose football games, you will see a precise diagram. The Bills are now a talented football team. We might even have a quarterback. IF Tyrod is the real deal, the Bills need to plan for the future in lieu of filling self created holes and chasing defensive backs. They need to strengthen both lines, and prepare for players such as Kyle and Mario to get old. And the way Glenn looks there might really be a problem at LT, which is not good. In all, I like what I am seeing. Obviously, nothing matters as much as having a qb. Let's hope that Tyrod can do the job because if he can, this team can go places now, and in the future. -

Stick around so we can talk about the games he took over and won for us. I'll start: Your turn! -
Spiller M.I.A. in New Orleans
Bill from NYC replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Fans, as one would expect, simply HATE to admit that a first round draft selection was a waste, bust, or whatever one would wish to call it. Not me. Spiller was an idiotic selection, almost as dumb as taking Whitner. -
