  1. Good to see your post, Simon as always. A few points (some of which may be counter): - These days the window of opportunity is pretty narrow. This roster is stacked from top to bottom with talent save for the question mark at QB. I would hate to lose this opportunity before some major contracts come due - Say we do NOT make the playoffs this year. Will the coaching staff now be under scrutiny for throwing away the boatload of talent ? Not making the playoffs for so long comes with some incredible fan baggage - We are not totally tied to the current 3 QBs for next season. There is always the slim (and stupidly hopeful) possibility of a Brees or Rivers coming available I see your point regarding playing for the larger prize but it hinges on EJ's ceiling. Several posters, some astute, think that EJ will never improve his accuracy. Do you think otherwise ? Around these parts - Simon can do whatever he wants, whenever he wants
  2. Now you see my point. The way Ryan said it implied 'never' . there were also no caveats in his statement at that time. IMHO, it was rather presumptuous to say that while also saying he may not decide on a starter till all preseason games are done. He sounds undecided which is fine but then don't go about pretending to shut the door on one of the choices.
  3. I thought last week Ryan had said he doesn't expect EJ to see first team reps again. Am I missing something
  4. Not sure what you are saying here. I would have rather not spend yet another year to find out if its true or not. Fair enough as you are entitled to your opinion. I just disagree with that. But how long can we wait ? Winning windows are narrow in the NFL. Note that I am not supporting or 'hating' on EJ. I am simply saying that considering we are still asking ourselves that question, I would rather err on the side of having one too many good QBs.
  5. I would say yes. QBs will take time to develop and especially ones selected in the middle rounds. But you have to start at some time. Unless we are sure we have landed on 'the one', there should not be an aversion to selecting a promising QB. Your question can be asked at pretty much any point in the draft. There will always be players (and positions) which are easier for a rookie to excel at in his rookie year. But if a QB starved team like the Bills were to keep thinking like that, they will hardly ever select a QB unless they back themselves into a corner as they were when they selected EJ.
  6. I would have liked the Bills to use one of their mid round picks on a QB in this year's draft. I had no favorites so the best remaining QB in, say, round 3.
  7. An oil change is like a dental cleaning - an opportunity for the shop/dentist to see you and sell you stuff. Which is why many dealers send discount oil change coupons - they want the foot falls. I hardly, say yes to anything on the spot. I say 'yeah, thanx' and if it is something serious (like brakes or joints or something), I take the car to another shop to get a quote. Then make a decision. Most of the time, they really can find nothing and come up with some ridiculous list of 'fluid flushes' which total $400-$500. Just because they HAVE to try and sell me something.
  8. He won an award after he was no longer a member here. TBD was holding him back. Considering I come here for valuable advice regarding my life's problems, can you two come to a consensus ? As it is I have preemptive depression reading the QB debate on here.
  9. I am with you. If he indeed doesn't ever become the starter here in Buffalo, he will be a capable backup especially with his work ethic and pleasant persona. IMHO, at worst he will have a Todd Collins type career
  10. Feelings are mutual Well thanx for telling me that now and making me look like an a$$.
  11. Are you serious ? Please point out said 'EJ Defenders' and what makes their support 'out of control' . And that makes eball 'out of control' how ?
  12. With the given arm strengths, I am less confident of Cassel making that throw than the other two. If I was an opposing D, I would gamble against that deep pass if Cassel were at QB. I am sure Roman doesn't want to shut off any option and the coaches will go with the QB who can consistently move the chains. If Cassel is another captain checkdown, then IMHO the job is TT's.
  13. Considering how much we love our backup QBs, EJ's best chance may be to lose the QB battle in camp.
  14. Sooo when is the game going to start?
  15. In Madison, helping my daughter move out of her apartment
  16. I am no authority to say if 1 or 5 players is the cutoff. In general, I am lamenting this sudden change in strategy by the FO/coaching staff. As an example, if we just got Incognito, I would say there is enough leadership and strong positive personalities to prevent any locker room bullying by him. But as the numbers keep increasing, I don't know if said leadership is adequate to keep the locker room intact.
  17. Can you please get with the program and discuss the QB situation ? This news about other players is just plain boring and distracting.
  18. My favorite poster, Leroi said the same several pages back and I rolled my eyes. But I have a higher opinion of you and hope you are joking. On the other hand, if it is true, it is pretty sad on Ryan's part
  19. I know I am late to this discussion and perhaps a couple of these thoughts are already expressed but I have three comments: - I have a tough time condoning violence in any situation except self defense. It is likely Geno acted like a punk, it is likely he baited IK but still I don't feel the violence is justified. I just cannot get on board with the 'he deserved it' line of argument. Unless Geno directly provoked him by taking the first jab or in other ways indicating impending violent action, I think IK was wrong - So far Ryan has been good with the media and with the players but there is a point where there can be one too many trouble makers in the locker room.Sure I want to 'build a bully' but to me it indicates players who are driven, play hard, play to the whistle etc. It does not mean we taking on players with known red flags such as Incognito, Harvin and now IK. Each of them can perhaps be rationalized but I am afraid that at some point in the future the locker room drama may affect the on-field performance negatively - If it is intended as the proverbial FU to the Jets, that is just not classy. We don't need that kind of animosity. Prove your superiority on the field I am just not on board with this decision to claim IK
  20. Sweeting would be an easy choice
  21. Perhaps IK liked Ryan and this was the plan all along. Kills two birds with one stone.
  22. Maybe we should trade Meh Cassel to them for decent compensation. I realize we lose the vet presence but this may be one time where we may be able to fleece the Pats* as Cassell should know their 'system'. He isnt really shining in TC for us anyway.
  23. Would have to be quite the pitch to get him out of retirement. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000477807/article/jake-locker-announces-retirement-from-nfl
