Edit: now confirmed rumor that Bills will release Cassel
Fan in Chicago replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Money we will save for what exactly in this season ? If you were to know for sure that the money saved is the difference between signing or not signing Dareus next year, then may be I can agree. But we both don't know that yet. The only thing we know is that we have the money this year and that it is best spent to reduce any controllable uncertainty with respect to the playoffs. I think I have said all I wanted to say on this subject so will agree to disagree. -

At this point, your scenario is way too hypothetical for me to respond to. But let me try anyway. Two injuries or one flame-out+ 1 injury could happen real quick. Depending on what point in the season that happens, yes the season may be entirely salvageable. One of the injury may be temporary enough to come back for the playoff run. -

This is where I fall in this argument. -

I agree with that philosophy for other positions on the team. I am advocating extra insurance as both TT and EJ don't have a large enough body of in-game experience. -

I disagree. I think we need insurance on the insurance simply to protect against any double disasters. -

Sure plans change. But given our past history with disasters at the QB position, I would at least be assured of a firm floor and hence err on the side of having one too many QBs. Simms doesn't give that vet presence and no I don't think TT or EJ are 'vet' enough. -
QB Tyrod Taylor to start Week 1
Fan in Chicago replied to Kirby Jackson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Frankly that is thinking small and scared. As I have said numerous times over the past couple of days, we did not get guys like Watkins, Harvin and Clay to play ball control, play-not-to-lose football. I want to see Greatest show on turf Part Deux -
QB Tyrod Taylor to start Week 1

IMO, EJ's style resembles TT's more so than Cassel's. Hence, I would expect that EJ would slide into the game's plan if TT were to go out. To me this makes less sense. Probably over-reacting here, but I hope this doesn't indicate EJ is being cut/traded. -
Wow ! I would not have expected this. If true, would he have had ANY trade value ?

EJ for RG3? Please don't let this happen.
Fan in Chicago replied to DallasBillsFan1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The difference being that Leaf brought it upon himself. It was entirely his doing. But it is tough to heap total blame on RG III when he did so well in his rookie year. Something is amiss here and I would guess that the Redskins organization is more to blame for where RG III is now - he is literally a broken player. In a way I feel bad for RG III because in his rookie year, he appeared to have good character and exciting skills. How great would it be for us fans if Luck and RG III had both panned out - different styles and fun to watch. -
With the kind of horses we have in our stable, Roman would be foolish to adhere to a particular philosophy ('ground and pound') at the expense of another (exploit all areas of the field agressively). In SF, Roman had a few but not the total list of toys he now has at his disposal. With McCoy, Clay, Watkins, Woods and Goodwin, it would be an utter waste to commit to a ball control, run the clock philosophy exclusively. We are not built to be coy on offense and the QB's range should not be the limiting factor in the decision. Precisely. There is no reason to hope and wish for a passive offense when you have a potential top-5 defense

I will seriously question Ryan's QB evaluation skills if Cassel is named starter. Even if Roman prefers MC, I still think it will be Ryan's decision to own. From what we have seen so far, MC is the one most likely to be game planned against byb opposing DCs. Both TT and EJ can use all parts of the field and can offer multiple options to Roman. We have the skill players to utilize every part of the field. Cassel will seriously limit their use. We are tough and aggressive on defense. That allows the O to take some risks. Both TT and EJ offer that dimension. Playing not to lose is sooooo Jauronic that it will totally underwhelm. I lean towards EJ but wont be as upset with TT as I will be with MC as starter. There is no reason to aim for a conservative offense

EJ Will Start Pittsburgh Game
Fan in Chicago replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There you have what ? If you thought that EJ was a distant third in the competition because EJ played with the 3rd string offense in the first 2 preseason games, then it is entirely fair to surmise that EJ is ahead by a nose. -

Or maybe people are just happy that one QB appears to be pulling ahead and that makes the Bills better ? -

Man, the media will be back tracking hard. I won't be susprised of JoeB hopes EJ plays badly, simply to vindicate his anti-EJ 'reporting'. -

And this wording right here separates the good posters from the not-so-good. A lesser poster would have taken offense at NoSaint's post and gotten combative and defensive. You, OTOH, stood by your position. Got to respect that even though I don't agree with your take always. -
This may be sacrilege around these parts, but for all the flash and stats Luck is accumulating, he seems to come up small in big games. I have not looked up stats but my perception (which ofcourse is reality ) is that Luck will let you down at the most inopportune time. Dareus's absence is huge but I trust Ryan to game plan well enough to stymie Luck. If we get even average QBing with no mistakes, we should win this one.

Why EJ Manuel should start in Week 1
Fan in Chicago replied to Simon's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So were Tebow, Vick and Flutie. Exciting doesn't make a winning QB. If Tyrod, in addition, brings Russell Wilson's smarts, we can have a conversation. I want my QB to complete passes not audition for Dancing with the Stars -

I have seen clips from TC and also saw the entire Browns game which indicates what you write. But have been burnt enough times over the past decade and hence am holding back on the hope and excitement -

I think he is. But besides that he is knowledgeable about football and has some inside knowledge about the organization. Unfortunately, he is also a closet Stillers fan. And if you didn't realize it yet, if I continue to ball**** him like this, I avoid warning points for a year. -

Oh come on! EJ may not be playing to a level you desire. But to say he has not improved is completely ignoring the facts. Its not just the moderator tag. And I did realize it was tongue in cheek but wanted to offer some historical perspective re:TBD
