  1. I am sure there is no such disillusionment regarding EJ's potential. He is merely a one game caretaker and go-forward decisions regarding EJ will be entirely unaffected bu his performance tomorrow. He just gets a chance to showcase himself as well to be at least the #2 guy elsewhere.
  2. I really really think that Whaley intends to build the team in the Steelers mold. If you also believe that, then the next coach is likely to be no older than the 40s, an up and comer with great coordination skills. Someone who Whaley can work with to ensure long term success. Also look for the team to again draft a QB in the BenR mold (EJ was similar in the measureables but little else).
  3. Bill - what exactly are you upset about ? That Ryan was fired ? This team was clearly headed in the wrong direction and not making progress on the Defense. His style of coaching and his stubborn nature is not going to change and would not lead this team to the playoffs. The timing could be debatable but the reasons for this departure are etirely clear. I do understand that you dislike Whaley but news is filtering out that he was not on board with the Ryan hire and yet he brought in personnel who Ryan wanted. IMHO, we have not seen an uninfluenced Whaley team but are about to. Looks like he will make the major football decisions which is exactly what he should have been doing all along. Brandon is out of the main decision tree for a new coach. These are all positive outcomes which most of us fans have been clamoring for. I have seen your posts in several threads but still cannot understand where you are coming from. Why so unhappy, man ?
  4. Understood. However, at this juncture of the franchise, the bills can ill afford to give an ex-HC a chance at redemption. He could be the HC equivalent of Incognito but if the leopard doesnt change its stripes, the team and several associated with it could be on the street in 2 years. i say that and yet the hypocrite in me is somehow intrigued by Todd Haley. Go figure
  5. Not necessarily. Coordinators float to the top as HC candidates cos of their reputation for organization, planning, flexibility, scheming and level-headedness gets around. My major concern is due to his proven disaster at Denver. if he was another upcoming HC candidate, as Lynn is, I would be more in line with your thoughts. Hope this makes sense.
  6. Thank you. I did remember that he had issues at Denver but didnt have a full count of them. This is very concerning if he wants to be considered a HC candidate. I dont think there is enough evidence to suggest he can be a very good HC. His track record is of a good OC undoubtedly helped by the BB system and Brady. Doesnt automatically translate into HC credentials. All of which proves he is a good OC. Not enough to suggest he can do well with the other tasks and skills of being a HC. Especially for a franchise hungry for immediate success.
  7. Russ has done well on the business side with marketing. That is something which is undeniable. But he has no business saying a word in coaching or personnel decision. Actually wait - he should say one word as in 'aye' when Whaley makes his recommendations. He has done well with the O but I am sure you realize that being a HC takes way more than that. I am sure he will be thoroughly evaluated on the non-OC parameters. Also, if he indeed gets the HC job permanently, I would like him to delegate the OC duties to a dedicated hire as I am a big fan of the HC doing the head coaching and not having multiple duties. There is enough to worry about in the HC position to also worry about any one area's coordination.
  8. Thank you for your contribution. Next time be more respectful and try to present analysis/facts.
  9. Agree. Piling on to the Bills is utterly lazy. And this is just 2 days in... Allow a few weeks to go by without proclaiming to be a dumpster fire
  10. I agree with Bevell for HC I also think Marvin Lewis gets fired and we get him as a DC. OC - no clue
  11. I was merely being kind. If I were to go out on a limb, I would say he will be a DL coordinator and nothing more. I dont think the results of his underwhelming D were caused by him being pulled different ways.
  12. Or it very well could be that the Pegulas are learning and making course corrections as they go. First time owners of a football franchise was bound to have growing pains. A lot of rights so far - making a football decision to get rid of the Ryan brothers without consideration of money, immediately naming Whaley as leading the HC search (takes Brandon out of that role, allows Whaley to own the team's future and his own). You and a few others seem incredibly upset about these happenings but these are the right things to do. While we are at it, I am not one of those that think that Whaley is this scheming, back stabbing, self promoting schmuck. He was in the mode of 'give the coach whatever he wants to succeed' which may have been reflected the past 2 drafts. We now will truly see what a Whaley-led team looks like. In 2 years, we will have an answer. After several years, I am preaching patience.
  13. I have been thinking this for a while now. He wont get another HC gig again. Perhaps a DC under the right circumstances.
  14. Highly unlikely. We need pieces but the front lines are not nearly as devoid of talent as the results show.
  15. Big thumbs up on this decision. Send Brandon on a vacation during this search to a place that doesn't have a cell phone signal
  16. Makes you wonder why the Ryan brothers were trying to fit their style when the front personnel went a good fit. The right decision finally, imho
  17. If we were to judge yesterday's game in a vacuum, I would agree fully with you. However, the ref-ing simply exacerbated an underperforming D, what has become a symptom Ryan's coaching.
  18. Our secondary as a whole is bad. Gilmore has shown good things but several good things too. Considering that the overall D is up for an upgrade in the offseason, we need to keep as many of the good ones as we have and upgrade the other positions. Badly need safety help, as an example. Having said that, there is a budget to be mindful of and hence I would set a ceiling to his value and see where it shakes out. On a related note, it is striking how poorly the D has performed this season. Is it Ryan alone ? Rob Ryan or does Ed Reed also shoulder some of the blame for the poor secondary ? Gilmore is just one piece of this evaluation. Some of his performance is self preservation, but how much of it was due to poor schemes, being put in bad situations, having to cover for our weakness at safety, lack of communication ? Coaching evaluators should assess the overall performance and make changes where they need to be made. If it were up to me, as I said before, I would retain Gilmore at perhaps a top 6-10 corner scale.
  19. I want to see that sight with Landry on the ground
  20. We need to score but not too fast. Slow it down
  21. Fundamentals, scheme, motivation, details
  22. Oh well! So much for any momentum
  23. Actually Jethro Tull's "Too old to rock n roll, too young to die". Character is called Ray Lomas
  24. I wasn't referring to your tone. We are fine. Done here ?
