The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19
leh-nerd skin-erd replied to Hedge's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Look, I’ve tried to be discrete by asking innocuous questions, quizzing you about various things, liking posts and trying to get into your inner circle. I’m just going to get to it: Are you and your husband, or were you and your husband at one time, contractors for the CIA, the Department of Homeland Security, a shadowy government or quasi-government agency that operates beyond the prying eyes of Congress at the request of the President, and/or are you a specialist in anything that might loosely be described in a Ludlum novel as covert, deep cover, wet work, infiltration, or dark ops? Do you speak multiple languages, and are you that rare combination of sultry beauty and an everywoman style that allows you to pass from Kremlin dinner party to das Walmart noticed yet unnoticed? Can your husband kill me and make it look like I accidentally swallowed my own shoe lace in spite of the fact I was wearing loafers, and it’s 2020, so more importantly, can you? It’s either this, or you’re working for Amazon negotiating for warehouse space and massive tax breaks. There literally are only two possibilities based on your travel schedule. -

You’re likely arguing with someone who bought the “Trump is a Russian agent”” narrative spun and perpetuated by his political ruling class for 4 years. While many here correctly identified the nature of that early on, for those that didn’t, the evidence that the game was over very early on is available for public consumption. In essence, those that were fooled were duped by a modern day McCarthyesque plan, which goes to show you, there are no new ideas, just new simpletons that fall for them. I have most definitely considered that the Chinese intentionally created and released the virus, that they would willingly sacrifice their citizens to change the international narrative and hurt-or destroy their enemies. I could certainly spend a few minutes googling and provide examples of such behavior from the last 100 years or so, but I trust we would all agree that it’s a thing. -

He’ll be bahk. -
I may have mixed 'em up once or twice. I'm not all that smart though.

I like to keep things loose and stay away from personal attacks. You're a weak minded simpleton. -
I’m flying without a net here, but a friend with family in, and more intimate knowledge of Italy suggested that the percentage of citizens over age 65 is among the highest in the world. This article indicates 23% of the population is in that age group. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/mar/03/italy-elderly-population-coronavirus-risk-covid-19 He also indicated there is substantial concern that the virus, with highest concentration in the north, moving south. The concern is norther Italy is generally wealthier, with greater access to superior medical care than in the south (relatively speaking).

Now we know who has all the water. It’s DC Negan. -
Was there a technical problem in the town hall? I think I understood him better than I have in a year. As for walking off camera, I know they place tape on the floor to mark the edge of the video field. It’s like he got to the edge, saw it and was trying to remember why it was there. It didn’t register, of course, but at least he knew it meant something. Hysterical.

How did it go with Larry David and the rest? You left us hanging.

Biden was speaking the other day and I swear I thought he was singing “My Sharona” by The Knack. It gets confusing at times. -
We’re all God’s creatures? Pay it forward? It’s a global economy?

Come on, a gratuitous product-placement Snickers reference?? We’re hawking Mars, Incorporated these days? Unbelievable! (I’ll check it out)

I generally enjoy the back and forth between you and @IDBillzFan on the California situation. What I find funny about this post is that in spite of your fairly chill responses about some of the things that bothered ID, everyone has their hot buttons. In your best Will Smith “Bad Boys” voice: “AHHH HELL NO!! I WILL BUST SOMEONES A$$ IF I FIND THAT STICKER ON MY &$#@ING LEXUS!” Chef be crazy.

Quite a few years ago I was in Bangor, Maine, and a local took me by SKs house. No idea if he still lives there, but he had an iron gate all around the property (with bats or goblins on it for maximum cool/creep factor). Anyway, if I knew he was such a liberal dick, I'd have yelled at him to tear down the barrier. -

One of the side effect of coronavirus is unreasonable crankiness. Tibs got it! -
#visionary 3rd will be junior assistant executive to the chairman in charge of staffing. The chairman, who I call me, likes his wings extra crispy, his shirts hand-ironed with a sharp crease, and his coffee with no sugar. And yes, there is a role for @Tiberiusin this campaign. 3rd, explain sugar to him, and show him which part of the iron faces down. As this is grass roots, we have no money in the budget for work comp insurance or skin grafts.

I’m just going to throw this out there. If you get this liquid lunch thing under control, I’m starting a grass roots campaign “GG 4 Fed Chair”.

Word Bobby, we have reached a place where agree on another issue! Imo, the big problem people have is thinking in terms of The dip and The bottom. It’s like losing 25 pounds, throwing out all your Wranglers and buying up a bunch of skinny jeans. For some, the skinny jeans will get the job done, but for most, rational and reasoned thought should prevail. Maybe the new jeans work, but maybe the real target number for new purchases should have been 20, 18, or 15 pounds off the scale. Dollar cost averaging, knowing ones time horizon and risk tolerance seem to work pretty well over time. If you have some money available to buy on The (latest) dip, have at it.

The world keeps spinning. Business models change and adapt, people forget and move on. By the way, on that note, I found myself a bit depressed today. I generally turn on the network news channels to get a sense on what they are reporting or suggesting. Mostly, I do it because I like to know how the other side thinks, or at least the narrative they want the rest of the world to believe. It hit me that I feel an awful lot like I did many of the years the O’Biden ticket was in power. It seemed to me there was a constant malaise that hung over that administration, wher the promise of hope and change was replaced with “our best times are behind us, big government is the answer, submit or be marginalized”. When I contrast that with the incredible energy generated by Trump, by the focus on development of the American economy, repatriation of money long out of our economy, the money that has been invested in communities across the areas I’ve travelled, more money in the pockets of the middle class, it’s a pretty stark contrast. it must really be emotionally draining to be an O’Biden Democrat, when everything is doom, gloom, boogeymen in every corner.
