Global warming err Climate change HOAX
leh-nerd skin-erd replied to Very wide right's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Or is that what I want you to think? (I probably missed it but numbers like yours make me nervous because of the potential for an infinite number of decimal places. It's unsettling, like Tom Hanks in Bosom Buddies) -

What about porch pirates? Did they ever have the concern about having the the cappuccino maker they ordered at 4:30 pm one day being stolen from their porch by 11am the next? Don’t even get me started on the lines at Disney. -

Well sir, this would apparently qualify as a "hot button" issue for you. Personally, I appreciate a well told story told from an accurate perspective. I recall watching JFK, walking out and thinking "Holy Cow Tommy Lee Jones killed Kennedy!!!". Frank Nitti being tossed off the roof in "Untouchables" warmed my heart, yet it was disappointing to learn it never happened. I'm sort of ambivalent about it these days simply because I have rationalized that since I have no real idea what the actual dialogue would have been in an historically accurate film, who got angry, who delivered a thunderous and emotionally charged speech to an audience, it's all sort of fantasy anyway. Best I can say is after watching The Irishman is that i researched the players a bit and learned something I didn't know before. I watch most movies as a 2 hour escape from reality, though I watch far less than I used to. Have a good day!

Good summary though you were harder on it than me. Deniro appeared about 90 in the grocer scene. Oldest he looked in the film imo. He also had these weird bent baby arms while laying the boots to the guy. With his young daughter off to the side, I was wondering if I missed a scene transition and he was a beloved grandpa defending his grandaughter. Very, very off putting.

The Rooney Rule (still) isn’t working?
leh-nerd skin-erd replied to wppete's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think it's pretty amazing that folks choose to look for some sort of Social Justice watershed event in a game with a goal to assert 100% masculine dominance, tactically and physically, played by exceptionally well-compensated individuals who often display narcissistic tendencies and frequently seek out the best personal deal they can find, managed by obsessive-compulsive-coaching staffs on teams owned by billionaires. On top of that, the jackalopes who run the game can't figure out the rules that they designed with any sort of consistency, and the players are always one play, collision or crumpled bath mat away from a career-ending injury. Throw in all the *-gates, the questionable moral and legal conduct of some players and coaches. Someone is always treated unfairly in a coaching hire, someone always considers themselves the next great thing, and someone always loses out to someone else. Coaching is hard. I'd be happy if the Rooney rule was rewritten to get some damn officiating equity in a playoff game! FREE THE BUFFALO BILLS! FREE THE BUFFALO BILLS! FREE THE BUFFALO BILLS! -

Seriously though, how did the Texans drop 13 guys into coverage? JA had a ton of time to throw but each receiver had 3 guys on them. There has to be some “get free damn it!” jail break at some point, no? -
While I’d lobby for consistency across games, I could live with consistently not making the call for both teams. I can live with consistently calling it tight for both teams. I don’t know why the nfl allows such inconsistency, but that’s a discussion for another day. I have trouble wrapping my head around multiple calls being missed or called that work to the detriment of one team only, on a national stage. You can rationalize “ok fine” individually to TD No TD, Watson delay of game, Watt unsportsmanlike for body weight on JA, Hopkins first down generous spot in OT, and early in the game the very late contact on JA that knocked him down well after the whistle blew, the Allen helmet to the head, maybe even the crack back block early in the game—but collectively every one going against you while Houston played Pats-level mistake free football with Watson extending plays all game? Seems odd.

The fair catch, that wasn't.

Since we're just making up new ways to signal on this issue, and its basically anything goes, next time the returner can just do an Enrico Pallazo so everyone in America (except the on-the-spot official) is on the same page. I suppose on the bright side it allows players in a league where you can be fined for wearing the wrong color socks the freedom to live their truth on kickoffs. -

No Dawg, you're wrong here. Not completely wrong, but wrong enough. Yes, every fan in America would argue he gave himself up. Yes, there are fans of teams who would argue, as you do, that the right thing to do was to correct the objectionable call and be on our way. Of course this is one of the reasons we lost. When you take 6 points off the board in a 22-19 game, well the math is what it is. It's not the sole reason, nor is it even perhaps the primary reason. That matter is debatable. You have a rule, or you do not. We all have seen plays when a turnover occurred, or a player was fighting for extra yardage only to find later that the whistle had blown and whatever else happened, it was what it was. We have all seen plays with inconsistent officiating where one action was determined to be penalty-worthy and a similar play a short time later was not called. We have seen and heard "Great no call!" or "They are letting them play!" which, of course, are muttered because in other games the exact opposite happens. The official on the field made the call, made it definitively and quickly. The fact that the receiver was lazy in his job means little, just like a Qb who decides to give himself up 2 yards from the out of bounds line and gets tackled because he got lazy. The fact that he got lazy in the field of play is irrelevant, except of course when the rule can be changed on the spot based on 'feelings'. Had the official ruled in Houston's favor, it's a judgement call. Still wrong, but you're going nowhere fast with that. Should have been a TD, was a TD until those Men in Black ran out and carved an on-the-spot exception to the rule. -

A couple of the jokes--felicity huffman, less school than greta...were mildly amusing and obvious. But "you'd represent ISIS" given the chance? Epstein is your boy? You allw roked for Harvey? And actually I thought the Felicity Huffman joke was pretty funny. -

As importantly, where would Barrack hide the vig? -
The Media's Portrayal of Trump and His Presidency

Maybe, but it seems more edgy than what would normally be considered edgy for some dopey awards show. What was the end game? His monolouge was so over the top to provide cover to Hollywood? The crack about Apple...sweat shops and child labor jokes? -
The official said they considered it but viewed the contact to the head to be incidental, and as Wentz was a runner it's acceptable to initiate helmet to helmet contact. The official also went on to say it's difficult to adjudicate each and every play with the increased NFL "Pointus Emphisatico" on blindside blocks given the time necessary to facilitate protractor methodology to establish the relative circumference of an Offensive Lineman's radius of parallel axis to the opposing team's goalline juxtaposed to the Defensive Lineman's visual acuity vis a vis sideline to sideline mobility and current algorithmic sensibilities. He also said something about "As such and ergo" but I stopped listening because it all made sense to me.
