Has technology marginalized the NFL?
WotAGuy replied to patfitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't understand how your topic question relates to the 901 words that follow (MS Word - yea technology!). You ask if technology is marginalizing the NFL, and as I understand the term "marginalize", you're asking if technology is making the NFL "trivial" or "insignificant". But your post doesn't really state a position relative to the question - but you do make exquisite use of those "quotey" marks Technology is enhancing the enjoyment of the game for me, but I don't get the connection in asking if it has "marginalized" the NFL. P.S. Hang on - I just checked the 3am post time of the OP. NOW I get it! Never mind! -
It's amazing that seemingly not too long ago (yes, it was 40+ years - but, but.....I'm old), black QBs were an anomaly and the attitudes captured in this article were real. I was 10 years old when trhe Bills dratfed James Harris and I remember what a big deal it was and the attention they got over it. OJ wrote a book about his rookie year (Education of a Rich Rookie) and he captured quite well the tension in the team over Harris starting the 1969 season. It was also disturbing to read how behind the times the Bills wer ein the late 60s and early 70s compared to true "professional" teams - no wonder we sucked - but I loved them and still do! It's also a little sad to see Lou Saban portrayed in a bad light - but apparently he had his weaknesses.

Sully throws SJ13 under the bus
WotAGuy replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's interesting how the Sully threads always have many people posting that everyone should stop reading his columns. He's the guy people love to hate, yet can't seem to stay away from his work - or his threads! To me, he reads like a guy bored to death with the Bills and their never-changing state. He often refers to the fact it's the same old thing with them, and that it's hard to come up with new ideas/opinions on a very old topic. I used to find him really entertaining on WGR's pregame show when he came on around 8-9 am with Jeremy White. I'd listen to them on my way in from Syracuse and laugh at their banter and especially when Jerry would get all wound up over one argument or another. To me, he's entertaining when arguing a point with someone, whereas his columns reflect his boredom with the recurring state of the Bills. -
Everybody Done with their Rants yet?
WotAGuy replied to plenzmd1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I hear you - but that's the thing about message boards - everybody gets to say exactly what's on their minds, and I kind of enjoy the rants. I appreciate the passion, even if it's manifested as frustration. I used to be much more passionate about the Bills, but they have worn my enthusiasm down over the past 10 years or so. So, i just turn it off when i see things going the way it went Sunday.....the DVR was on, so if they came back, I'd watch it eventually. Oh, and I stopped drinking, so that might have something to do with my more peaceful, accepting demeanor -
oppps! peed myself!!

Everybody Done with their Rants yet?
WotAGuy replied to plenzmd1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I get the intent of your post, but are you really that big a fan of bad football? That Tampa game was nearly unwatchable.....and I've been watching and going to Bills games since 1968. Thank God that Philly game was on here in Syracuse - it was a blast to watch. And the college championship games Saturday were pretty exciting to watch too. Lots of good football being played, but the Bills aren't part of it right now. -

By the time the wagon has reason to load back up, a thousand bucks won't be worth all that much. That's the same theory I'm using in extending my three daughters' college loans out 30 years!

My theory on why the Bills looked so horrific today
WotAGuy replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I had a premonition this past week too. I knew if we didn't win, we most certainly were going to lose. -
Could Buffalo get moved to 4:25 in week 16 ???
WotAGuy replied to djp14150's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That game should be moved to 4:25........am. -
Does anybody care about the rest of the season.
WotAGuy replied to bisonbrigade's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Even though they couldn't close the deal against the Falcons, EJ had them in position to win in regulation, and had them driving in OT. He seems to perform quite well in pressure situations for a rookie. -
Single Play to define the Bills Franchise
WotAGuy replied to Coach55's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I nominate whatever play preceded Lou Saban's famous rant "GOD ALMIGHTY!! WHY DO WE DO THAT?!?!" -

tough to choose in this one.....in a good way! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQfmpXsLV_4 -
It's the curse of Daryle Lamonica - I tell you ever since we traded him (in 1967!), we have sh$t the bed at every conceivable opportunity. The Falcons game is just another in a long line of bitter, heart-wrenching disappointments. I can laugh when it happens now, but it took years of therapy to get to this point

Good Food Experiences Near Syracuse Carrier Dome

1977 graduate of Williamsville North! I probably graduated before you were in grade school though..... We were in Buffalo for a funeral this weekend, and stopped in Elmo's in Getzville for wings....there was a crowd of people watching the WN Spartans spank Union-Endicott Friday night. If you have time, the Carousel Mall has a few new offerings - go-cart track and Wonderworks, both of which he would enjoy. -
John Bongiovi interested in buying the Bills

Did she mention anything about me winning the lottery? I'm starting to get impatient. -
sour Pez - they come in packs of 6 (at Cracker Barrel) and I can't eat anything less than all 6 in a sitting. Now and Laters - Wegmans has them in bulk and I overdose on those too. Chewy Spree Dark salted chocolate (85% cacao) - hard to find, but it's awesome when it's available.

Quick look at stats for both suggest Moorman has been better in most categories, over about same number of games and kicks: Powell = 19 returns for 14.73 yd average, 1 TD, 1 inside the 10 yd line, 5 TB and 5 FC. Powell's average is about 6 yards more.. Moorman = 12 returns for 11.25 yds, 0 TD, 3 inside 10 yd line, 3 TB and 9 FC. Both have 10 kicks iunside the 20. The Cleveland game sealed Powell's fate. Moorman has done pretty much what they needed, which is to stabilize the return defense game. Clearly, his time here is over after this season, in my opinion.

Ever want to see every pass play the Bills ran in a game?
WotAGuy replied to jonramz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
When I opened the page with the diagrams, there was an ad at the bottom for heroin addiction treatment. Hope that was just a coincidence, because the first thing I thought when I saw all those diagrams was "Man, you'd have to be on drugs to watch film of that Steelers game that closely" Seriously, great job and thanks for sharing your hard work. -
This may have already been posted, but for those who missed it, a nice little homage to Stevie in SI's 11/4/13 issue.... http://si.com/vault/...08986/index.htm

Digging Deep - why do you remain a fan of this franchise?
WotAGuy replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I remember being 6 or 7 and running into the living room and asking my Dad whether the Bills were the white or dark jersies (B&W TV, remember?), and then taking a sip off his bottle of Schmidt's. I blame it on that - along with all the other problems in my life.
