  1. There is a book called "Rockin' the Rockpile" by Jeffrey Miller. I have a copy and it's very good. My memories are of the neighborhood around the stadium and being scared to death. Also remember cars that were parked in front yards were up on blocks with no wheels after the game. The scoreboard end zone, if I remember correctly, had no bleachers or seats - just concrete "steps". It was awesome walking through that wasteland of a neighborhood and shell of a stadium, only to walk through the ramp and see that bright green field and red buffalo logo. This was before we owned a color TV, so seeing those colors and the bright blue uniforms was stunning. The echoes inside the stadium hallways added to the excitement before the game and the smells of hot dogs and peanuts were mouth-watering. Hoping you wouldn't have to sit behind a post in the area under the roof. Lots of good memories of that place. Years later saw Jimmy Buffet play there after a Bisons game. Early 1980s and a gorgeous hot day!
  2. The book "Relentless" has a recap of the game and it just says a knee injury that did not require surgery. Ha! I have, but it took me another 39 years and lots more miserable lessons, many of which involved the Bills.
  3. Man this thread is depressing - I have been to so many of these games. November 8, 1970: I was 11, and my Dad had gotten tickets for him, Mom and I to sit in the best seats under the roof. Seven bucks a piece and it seemed like way too much money to spend, and I was so excited. The tickets were on the bulletin board for months and I would just stare at them. Morning of the game, Dad is acting strange and finally takes me for a walk and tells me his heart isn't feeling well and he can't go to the game. My sister goes in his place and my Mom somehow takes us down to the Rockpile. Drunk kids spill wine on my Bills blanket and burn cigarette holes in it. OJ tears up his knee on a KO return and is out for season. Bills lose 43-14. Worst day of my young life. That's also the day I decided to take up drinking
  4. OJ as a player. FJ as a man and player. Honorable mentions to Stevie Johnson and Anthony Hargrove. Both guys would interact with the crowd as we leaned over the wall during warm ups, and would give a long row of high fives before leaving the field. I'm 57 now and that made me feel like a kid again!

  8. It's threads like this that make me wonder why more women don't post on OTW. They'd get a real education

  10. Never had that happen, but I hate it when my johnson splashes into the bowl. Gotta reel it in like a garden hose.

  15. For a fan base that hasn't sniffed the playoffs in a football generation, what else is there to get excited about? Wish we were playing another team - all white for the Jets is uninspired and pretty much what they've worn through much of their history.

  20. Insanity = watching the Bills do the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. The first year I really paid attention to the Bills was 1968. I was brought up on a losing franchise. But every 5-8 years, they would at least be competitive for the playoffs late in the season. This long stretch of mediocrity, with no late season excitement except for one miserable Steelers loss that i attended, has taken the "sails out of my wind". Also, I think the media oversaturation of the Bills and NFL in general has taken some of the shine off it for me. With that oversaturation comes so many depressing/embarrassing disclosures about the players, it's tough to get excited about them. Free agency has also lessened my loyalty to the players, because in most cases, they turn over so quickly. In the past 15-20 years, they just haven't had many players that are really excellent and have the ability to make game-changing plays. At best we have had a bunch of guys that belong in the Hall Of Very Good. I will say, I just watched the 4th quarter of the second jets game from last year and enjoyed seeing Tyrod again - he and several other guys were pretty fun to watch again. Right after that, I put on the Green Bay game from 2014, and even though the Bills won, it was depressing watching Kyle Orton and some of the other guys that were on that team. They just weren't very good, and it's hard to believe I was excited to see Orton start games - only because EJ was so bad. I turned that Green Bay game off after the first period. Add all that up, and I still enjoy watching them win, but don't have expectations that they will make the playoffs anytime soon. Keep the expectations low, and maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised!
  21. His teeth were causing too much glare
  22. It's interesting, looking back at some of the AFL players and stats - QB stands out as having stats for top players that, by today's standards, are below pedestrian. Most other offensive stat leaders are pretty comparable to today.
  23. You don't pick a kicker In the first round for the same reason you don't pick an edge rusher with a bum shoulder in the first round - it causes too much dissension on message boards.
  24. Read your history books whippersnapper. The book Rockin the Rockpile is a good place to start
  25. I'm not sure Stratton was even the best player on most of the Bills teams he played on. Cookie was better. I think Saimes was better too. Sestak was better as well. Not sure how they came up with that one, other than the big hit on Lincoln is part of Bills lore.
