Except Derwood is right. Bettman did very little to keep the Sabres in Buffalo. In reality there were no qualified bidders from out of town. Bettman is a joke who has run the NHL into a second tier league in the US, and that’s the primary reason there was zero interest in buying AND moving the Sabres. Because the league is an also-ran is why it attracted shyster owners, which the feeble Bettman didn’t properly vet. One potential Sabres bidder had clear mob ties through his trucking company. The league babysat the franchise until a willing buyer stepped up, but staying in Buffalo was the logical choice given the market AND the favorable terms the owner would get in the brand new arena. No other market could offer that. Now compare that to the mess that was in Uniondale at that time, and tell me if there was any possibility that Sabres were going to move.

He probably makes more coaching up QB prospects and doesn't have to live the nomadic life of a position coach. He just had 2 students drafted in the Top 10. That's the best advertisement that his clinic can have.

This is a very lazy take that does not account for the decision makers exposure to the prospects. It's beyond laughable to think that Cardale is a better prospect than Allen and basing that judgement because they're the same size. Cardale was in the Bills' locker room for 1.25 seasons, and Beane probably did a hell of a lot of scouting on him, if you also want to apply the lazy parallel to Cam. They got rid of Cardale at the first possible moment, because they recognize that you need more than physical traits to succeed as a QB.

This is why people call Buffalo sports media a joke. This is a perfectly reasonable line of questioning, especially since they've been so vocal against the pick.

I definitely recommend that everyone take a look at the game film highlights. Afte watching a few games, the whole accuracy and low completion talking points are way overblown. But critics do have a point about him locking in on a target and bailing on a pocket too soon. Still there’s a hell of a lot more potential there than what we’ve seen in ages.

You're both right. The first time he took it he got a 14, and his agents came up with some excuse of why he did so poorly. He took it again and got a 31 (allegedly with help from the agents) I even found a discussion about it on the interwebs (BTW, thanks SDS for all this)
