I Think Milano is the Problem with our Run D
GG replied to JoshAllenHasBigHands's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It didn't have to be an intentional weakness. If you were going to throw above market FA dollars at a one dimensional DT whose performance was declining, you had better shored up the MLB spot behind him rather than rely on a raw rookie who's never played the position. They had two offseasons to work on the scheme, and decided that standing pat was the right call. -

Then it's bad fundamentals because a mistake by one of the front 7 led to a TD. You can accept a mistake by a corner leading to a 65-yd TD because that's part of football life. You should never have a mistake by a LB lead to a 65-yd run TD -

Now we're getting somewhere ... Not an accident that teams with good OLs tend to beat up on the Bills' D. Looking at video of last 3 games shows many weaknesses across the front 7 -

So in a sense, doesn't the blame then lie with the run D coordinator who designed a system that apparently only works with Luke Kuechly & Thomas Davis? Because the run D also sucked when Milano was out vs Miami, and all the games last year. -

The New York Times Playoff Machine is active

Bills are a lock if they finish 5-3 or better, virtual lock at 4-4, and will need help at 3-5. This makes logical sense. They don't deserve playoffs if they can't win 4 with the remaining schedule. -
I love the pylon cameras.

Are you saying that these memos were released 4 years ago?

Bills have a Roster Decision to make with Dodson Update: Waived

Until he's either signed to PS or claimed by another club. -
The strains at the bottom end are noticeable because it's the first time companies like that are picked up in the indices. It's hard to compare their performance now vs past cycles because the distressed-oriented CLOs weren't that abundant. Downgrades are rising, but are far below historic averages and are still nowhere near the distress in energy sectors in 2013. All this talk still ignores the trajectory of this economy to end up in a recession at some point in 2018-2019 had the previous economic policies persisted.

Joe B addressed it in his 7 observations, and put it squarely on Daboll. He faulted the OC for calling the plays straight into Redskins' strength up the middle. Fair point to question bashing head against the wall after they got stoned at the goal line several times .

He used to. Look for the Billsdaily user name. Scott may have his direct info.

According to Moody's, the global default rate for spec grade companies as of the end of September was 2.4%, the same as it was in December 2018. FWIW, the default rate was in the mid-high 4% throughout 2016, but started ticking down since November 2016. What happened? BTW, the historic default rate in non-crisis periods is about 3%. PS - and for the concerns about the healthier end of the bond spectrum?

Deflection my foot. I'm not the one who's arguing that Star is critical for this defense, but J Phillips can be replaced by a JAG.
-
He was certainly prominent during Peterson's fountain of youth quarter coupled with a feeble effort to slow down Haskins. Pretty pedestrian effort for a guy who was signed for the sole reason to shore up the run game. I'm sure you noticed a bigger & fatter Taylor chase down an RB to blow up a passing play.

I'm also not the one with massive reading comprehension problem. Maybe you can educate me and the rest of the board on the proper responsibility of the $10 million 1Tech DL when he's sitting on the bench. Should he sit in the middle, because if he sits on the end the bench will tip over?
-
Funny how people no longer wish to sling insults when their attempt falls limply on the ground. Keep storming that Star hill, the effort will be worthwhile.
-
Again that's a misleading statistic because the massive PG&E bankruptcy sways the results with its $18 billion debt balance. The more appropriate statistic to watch is the number of defaults, which still trail the crisis figures and are also well below the energy crisis of 2013. Carry on.

Welcome to the school of roster management. No matter how many times you try to impress the board with your high school play-calling knowledge, doesn't negate the fact that Star is an average DT who's a net liability given his contract. Instead of arguing that Bills can replace Jordan Phillips with a JAG, there's far more evidence that Bills could replace Star with a JAG and not miss a beat. The basic move to slide your highest paid DL around to cover up a glaring defensive weakness means the guy isn't earning his contract, plain and simple. You don't sign a guy to a $50 million deal if all you ask him to do is occupy space, especially when you have a misplaced MLB not playing well. Unlike any other DL on the roster, Star has yet to make a play other than "occupy blockers"
-
No, we're talking roster management, where you are out of your league. Let's wait until game tape is available to see how your favorite DL fared this week. Sure seems to be earning his paycheck, doesn't he?

There's always a sign of trouble somewhere. The real question are there any signs of trouble that could lead to a systemic collapse? At this point, despite an influx of more CCC borrowers and more risky deals in US corporate debt, the default rates are still at all time lows and are not ticking up yet to sound the alarms. Moodys is saying that when the defaults come, the recoveries will be worse. But they're not saying that the defaults are rising at this moment. Big distinction.
