Wrong take again. The offending institutions' equity was wiped out as those banks ceased to exist. The bailouts preserved market liquidity through the healthy institutions, while Fed mandated that nearly all banks take TARP funds, even those who refused it. We have laws that protect private property from unjust takings by the government, which were usurped by executive order. As for the banks' bad behavior leading up to the crisis, I'd put them below the realtors and the mortgage brokers, who were all regulated by the states, which were perfectly happy to look the other way as real estate churn padded the revenues. It was also less evil than the accounting chicanery at Fan/Fred that fueled the bubble. And less dangerous than the regulators allowing full credit for structured CDOs to have the same capital requirements as other AAAs.

WGR-550 Dust-up Today: Schopp vs. Capaccio!
GG replied to Nextmanup's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Isn't your last sentence a tacit agreement with Sal? He said it was confusion and a screw up, Schopp said it was intentional. -
WGR-550 Dust-up Today: Schopp vs. Capaccio!
GG replied to Nextmanup's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He was asking those questions in the context of trying to prove that they intentionally slowed down the pace. Whatever the version of the truth, Sal was a lot closer to it based on the replays, yet Schopp refused to concede (even though it was Sal who was looking at the video during the call) -

By Sal's points, McD's comments and the game tape. It clearly pointed to confusion, rather than a deliberate attempt to slow the game down. -

That's fair, but I think the main reason that people find Schopp insufferable is his refusal to give up a point where he's proven to be wrong, such as this topic. -

It didn't hurt that both were very familiar with Tyrod & Kaep before Jackson. -
Revisionist history much? Nothing about the federal government urging healthy banks to acquire teetering investment banks (without much due diligence) to ease the crisis, stomping on shareholders' rights and then turning around and suing those banks for following the feds' suggestions? Fully knowing (and tacitly encouraging) LIBOR gaming in a cheap way to restore bank stability, then turning around and suing banks for that manipulation? Please tell us of the bonuses that Jimmy Cayne & Dick Fuld received during the crisis.

Football Really Is About Minimizing Errors and Josh Allen
GG replied to Casey D's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's better based on the defensive alignment immediately after the snap. Cover 1 discussed the play and Turner's rationale is that Allen didn't like the 2 on 3 matchup on the left side. But in reality it's a 2 on 2 because the safety is too deep. Beasley is further upfield and is much closer to the sidelines than Singletary. -

I'd like to add that this crowd totally ignores how the defensive coordinators game plan against Allen, where it's plainly obvious that he is a far different QB when he's pressured. The gunslinger Josh's response to pressure is to roll right and throw the ball across his body or to run with it. That's not a long term formula for winning. -

That's fine if it's the only play available. But Allen looked off a better and safer play to the left, when he knew that the pressure was going to come from the right. -

Nope, not when you see the playcall and the defense. The Browns were overloaded on the right side and when Allen took the snap he saw that the LB who had shifted over to possibly rush dropped into coverage. But Beasley ran a great pattern and was wide open to the left, with Allen looking straight at him. If Allen releases at that time, Beasley easily picks up a 1st down and may still have gone out of bounds. The point being that at this moment in the game time and distance is valuable, and Beasley was 6 yards further downfield with an unobstructed throw. Allen instead looked him off and went to a harder pass that was tipped on a prior play. Part of the reason Singletary slipped is that he had to readjust for the catch. -

On replay it looked like Allen was confused with the playcall and needed to huddle up. There was no urgency in his walk up to the line either, and when you see J Brown's reaction at the end of the play, I think we can try to piece together the breakdown. My bigger concern was the decision to throw to Singletary on the 2nd & 10 play right before ... -
Bills at Browns Post Game Post Mortem
GG replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The shine is certainly losing its luster. Beane & McDermott like to stockpile late round picks, even though only 1 out of their 11 picks in Rds 5+ has panned out. Beane is at 0 so far. -
Bills at Browns Post Game Post Mortem
GG replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yup. It's the mindset that this team didn't need help at those positions when they could have made a run at those players, but then blaming the lack of QB pressure and more playmakers for the losses. Can't have it both ways. -

Why is it a foregone conclusion that Allen going back to his gunslinging days is a good thing for his development? Wasn't that his biggest downside coming out of Wyoming that everyone said would need to improve? -

BTW, who are the people who claimed that Clooney was overrated?

In fairness, I read that he was 8-13 on FG tries before this game.

Daboll as an OC - Rankings for last 10 years
GG replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Beasley was his third option on that play. My guess is that Knox was the primary, but he didn't sell the route too well and the LB followed him immediately. I don't know why Josh trusted the long bomb to Beasley who was triple covered on that play. Also an immediate fade to Brown on the left side would have worked because he was single covered. But Josh can't make that throw yet. -
