  1. Actually that would have either killed the clock or given the ball back to Buffalo. Not a bad strategy IMHO.
  2. I'd take it if it was signed. I'd hang it right next to my autographed Gary Marangi jersey.
  3. Didn't know about the Herm Edwards connection between Marrone and Hackett, guess that means well get plenty of props from him (assuming the wheels don't come off) I'd love to see and 8-8 season, but part of me wants to suffer a bit so we can get another good draft, THEN be successful.
  4. I think this also might be an indication that the offense is getting more habitual and less thought out as they become more familiar with it, again a good sign esp this early into a new offense. I like hearing that Hackett changed things up, he's adaptable, that's good. Good point on the vanilla D from last year hampering the O ability to cope with an aggressive defense, I hadn't considered that!
  5. So you're the one who listens! If he could have a show on card, baseball, and tennis he'd be in heaven. Unfortunately, he has to entertain us, the great unwashed, in our trivial indulgences, which is where he gets his bitterness.
  6. Please note that you are hereby banned from drafting EJ as your fantasy quarterback. You may have Tom Brady as a consolation prize however.
  7. If they were successful at both 4/3 and 3/4, then you could call them versatile. Given the track record, I'd call them terrible. That said, I do hope that better coaching with an eye toward player strengths make for a better defense.
  8. You said loss of down, I said possession, ie giving up the ball to the would-be intercepting team in the case of an offensive PI call.
  9. To carry the OP point to it's logical conclusion WRT this, it should be loss of possession. After all, the offense PI is likely to prevent an interception.
  10. We had strong special teams for most of the last 13 years. Where did that get us? Let's get the O and D solid, and take care of ST after that. I'm not saying ignore it, mind you, but let's prioritize it accordingly.
  11. We all know about the 2012 draft class qbs - here are some other recent draft classes: 2011: Cam Newton, Jake Locker, Blaine Gabbert, Christina Ponder, Andy Dalton, Colin Kaepernick Newton has been decent but had a bit of a sophomore slump. I'd say the jury is still out on Ponder, while Dalton and Kaepernick have been solid. 2010: Sam Bradford, Tim Tebow, Jimmy Clausen, Colt McCoy ugh 2009: Matt Stafford, Mark Sanchez, Josh Freeman, Pat White, Stephen McGee, Rhett Bohmar, Nate Davis Stafford yes, Sanchez is a wreck, Freeman is middle of the pack 2008: Matt Ryan, Joe Flacco, Brian Brohm, Chad Henne, Kevin O'Connell, John David Booty, Dennis Dixon, a bunch of other no-names, and Matt Flynn Ryan, Flacco yes, Henne backs up Blaine Gabbert in Jacksonville, O'Connell gained a ton of weight, got old real quick, and does weather for Channel 4, and Flynn is bouncing around the league with a lot of hope. What makes a good draft class? One good qb? Two? 2012 seems to be a milestone year for qb's, but 2013 seems to be about average. It only looks terrible because we look at the success of last years rookie qb's. That's an aberration though.
  12. Pettine has been known to like bringing in guys from his previous team to help teach his defensive system. For that reason, I'd be good with Leonhard.
  13. Not sure about this, I believe I've read that assistant coach salaries are not guaranteed, so if they get canned, the team is not obligated to pay them anymore.
  14. He was 36-44 (6-10, 7-9,7-9,11-5, & 5-11) as Cleveland's head coach, and went 5-11 2000 with NE, the year before Brady took over for an injured Bledsoe. He started 0-2 (Bledsoe was hurt in the 2nd game), and Brady came in and they went 11-3. Great quarterbacks make great coaches.
  15. Fantastic coach? I think not. He was average/below average until Brady came on the scene.
  16. This. With the game on the line you look to your best players to make plays. CJ or Stevie should have had their number called. This goes to playcalling.
