  1. I think this has been Jim McNally's plan from the start! In the offseason, Jason Peters starts to exclusively work at OLT so he can be ready for the position in 2006. I've said before, lock him in the weight room and have him stay in the "guest bedroom" at McNally's house! WHATEVER it takes!!!
  2. Ramius... your optimistic pessimism or is it pessimistic optimism is par for the course this year!
  3. But here goes! Well I'm on record here about restocking the O-Line and D-Line. This is an attempt to convey how they might do just that... 1st round: Pick #10 traded to Broncos for #'s 16 and 30. #16 Eric Winston, OLT, University of Miami #30 Gabriel Watson, DT, University of Michigan 2nd round: #45 Orien Harris, DT, University of Miami 3rd round: #67 (from Tenn.) Eric Henderson, DE, Georgia Tech #75 Matt Lentz, OG, University of Michigan #100 (hopefully, a Comp. pick) Grayling Love, C, Arizona State The Michigan/ Miami picks are NOT because I'm a fan of these teams, I just think these guys can play. Couple this with a free agent period signing of Nate Clements, Reggie Wayne, andLeCharles Bentley and I think next years edition is pretty well built!!!
  4. MY GOD.... I love the razor, but NOT when he talks!.... What a stinging thing to say about an analyst!! OUCH!!! X. Benedict, you are too tough, me thinks!
  5. I'm a little surprised that this pick HASN'T been mentioned, but I was jazzed when Tom traded up for Losman! I'm well aware that this pick is alternately the Messiah or Red-headed step child on this board, but from my perspective, this move was EVERY BIT the gutsy move any of the other picks have been! Personally, I STILL like the choice!!!
  6. I JUST logged on to the website and I was going to have someone explain this dream to me! WOW!!! If it's a dream, leave me the heck alone! The Sabres are suddenly FUN to watch again and they're doing this without Daniel Briere right? Abdominal strain for him, I believe, but how good are these guys? The confidence HAS TO BE sky high, probably higher than a Sabres team has been since 1999-2000! FUN, FUN, FUN!!!
  7. The Bills have been losing games, but no one should count This coming Sunday as one of them! I say the Bills rip the lousy Dolphins 35-21. This IS Miami week people, PERK UP!!!
  8. I don't know how far this goes anymore from a loyalty standpoint, but I thank GOD for Ralph Wilson! If we all had grown up without Professional Football in Buffalo, New York I think we'd all have a different view of our childhood, hometown, and relative environment. This is just the tip of the iceberg however. Ralph saved a dying Oakland Raiders franchise and between him and Lamar Hunt, we "share" in the success that they helped mightily to forge in the Merged NFL! I don't think Ralph Wilson has EVER recieved the "beloved owner" title that he richly deserves! Actually, unlike Wellington Mara, droves of fans will likely be estatic when he leaves this Earthly coil. As for me, I'll say a little prayer, and thank him from the bottom of my heart because he choose to take a chance on Buffalo with his AFL upstart way back when in 1960. Thanks Ralph!
  9. I'll be the first to say that I believe that this week is the turning point in J.P.'s development. He will show a glimmer of future Miami games whereby he becomes the Bills "Dolphin Killer"! I say that he tosses three TD's and no INT's with 278 yards and 36 yards scrambling! Eli Manning was pretty awful last year early but had his breakout game against the Steelers. It's going to happen soon for J.P., so I think this is the week!!! Can't wait!
  10. A buddy of mine sent me an E-mail and it said that the ramifications of the new CBA that it's highly probable that there is a hard cap on bonuses for incoming rookies when they sign their initial contract. As a result, there could be a flood of underclassmen leaving early, this year, to try and get a larger slice-of-the-pie before the new rules apply. Now, it seems to me, is the time to try and stock up with picks in the upcoming draft. In essence, losing Jonus Jennings and Pat Williams might end up being a part of the young core of players the Bills draft going forward! If compensation picks for these two are 3rd and/or 4th rounders, plus the Tennessee pick for Henry, we'd have the potential for a first day bonanza!
  11. IF the Bills were to cut ties with Eric, the simple solution is to have his replacement on the roster! The #1 option this offseason is Reggie Wayne. He is, IMO, a number one reciever in waiting. Younger, faster, quicker, and more productive now than Eric. The Bills would have to be on "speed dial" March 2nd, however, they've done that before with a fairly good success rate! Oh, and in addition, the Colts couldn't possibly have any more money for that offense!!
  12. Rico, you could be on to something here! Jon Gruden was literally traded by the Raiders to the Bucs for a handful of draft picks. Why NOT trade for a new GM and boot Tom Donahoe upstairs or out the door! Scott Pioli for _________, you name the price!
  13. I do believe that Drew Bledsoe is off the payroll this next year, and that had to be a healthy sum this year (2005)! Essentially, with his contract no longer a hinderance, the Bills should have more room to bid in free agency in 2006. If you include the rstructuring/cutting of Mike Williams and the possible departures of Eric Moulds, along with Troy Vincent, the future might look a lot brighter by mid-April. I also think that the salary cap will increase with revenue windfalls.
  14. Does everyone want a bonafied TE? The Bills should ante-up for this kid at Maryland, Vernon Davis! I'm going to sing his praises from here until draft day. He is EXACTLY what this franchise needs at that position. Kevin Everett would serve as #2 and the rest can "fight it out" for a roster spot. My money in that case would be with Campbell...
  15. There's a saying that "the truth will set you free!", well in this case the truth hurts!!
  16. My only hope is that Ralphy hasn't fallen into his 1970's mode of operation. The franchise back then was horrid and it seemed that he just didn't care! In the 1980's he woke up one day to attendance being, what 15,000 to 20,000.. and hired Football Men to rescue his ailing team! I'm NOT saying that Tom Donahoe isn't a "Football man" who doesn't knows his way around, but the general malaise this team produces nearly EVERY WEEK is getting harder and harder to take!!
  17. I think that Mike Mularkey is going to be the Head Coach in 2006. His situation will NOT be too unlike Gregg Williams in that he will be entering his 3rd year, and his job will depend on his team getting to the playoffs! Steve Mariucci got chopped by Matt Miien with 2 and a half years remaining on his contract! This is the scenario that MM will be flying around with in year 3. Win or else!!! Upgrades will be accomplished and his team will be given a mandate by Tom Donahoe that the time is NOW!!!
  18. Rumor has it that this prestigous publication is non other than BillsDaily! Tell me that it isn't the dummies guide for being a GM.... I dare you!!!!
  19. The underlying theme in my post is that Indianapolis fans believed that this guy (Peyton) would almost have to win 2 or 3 Super Bowls, ALL BY HIMSELF! After all, he was the first pick in '98! As Bills fans, we too, are hoping for a bonified Super Bowl winning QB in J.P. Losman, and the truth is, you NEVER KNOW!!! For as great as Peyton Manning has been, TEAM is the operative word, and maybe they have found a well balanced one now, we'll see..... Oh, by the way, I think he's a fine team player!
  20. One interesting twist to this story is that when Matt Millen hired Steve Mariucci, they had a similar reaction to him coming on-board in Detroit as the Bills faithful did when Bledsoe showed up! The truth is that Mariucci had come from a pressure cooker in San Francisco and he had ALL the credentials neccessary to turn around the floundering franchise. The moral of the story is that this NFL is a very volitile environment and even the best and brightest can be chewed up and spit out!
  21. First and foremost, play to the Bills strengths, and re-sign Nate and therefore your back 7 on defense is fairly sound! Nate Wayne is, IMO, a #1 WR in waiting! He's never going to be that guy in Indy with Harrison around! Sign him to a 5 year deal and WR is set! I wholeheartedly agree with Ngata as the draft pick, but I'd team him with Sam Adams who needs to mend fences with MM! The OLT in waiting,IMO, is Jason Peters, and if I'm the Buffalo braintrust, I LOCK him in the weight room and invite him to stay with Jim McNally in his quest bedroom! A quasi-son/ father relationship! For the third major signing, I tab Steve Hutchinson or LeCharles Bentley. I would STILL dabble with the idea that Mike Williams can play ROT, but he is in desperate need of re-structuring! In the draft, I'd try to get in position to draft the TE from Maryland, Vernon Davis! He will be the end all, beat all in a Bills uniform! To fill in the blanks, re-sign Aiken, Stamer, Haggan, and Crowell and find a place for Angelo in the starting lineup. Do NOT re-sign Bannan, Reed, and Teague! Release Eric Moulds after Wayne comes aboard, and find a suitable backup QB because Matthews shouldn't be re-sign either! Try prying Jon Kitna out of Cincy with a veteran contract offer, if he balks, Josh McCown is a free agent this year. Rohan Davey is bargain basement at this time, so he's VERY AFFORDABLE! he's been bounced around sooo much, he'd probably love a change of venue. I guess my final roster would look something like this: QB: J.P. Losman, Kelly Holcomb, Davey RB: McGahee, Williams, Gates FB: Shelton, (Draft, 5th round) WR: Nate Wayne, Evans, Parrish, Aiken, (Draft pick, 4th round) OT: Peters, Williams, Gandy (OG), (Draft pick, 3rd round) OG: Preston, Geisinger, Laurence Smith, Villarrial C: LeCharles Bentley, Preston, (Draft pick, comp 4th round) TE: Vernon Davis (2nd rounder), Euhus, Campbell DE: Schobel, Kelsay, Denney,Ritzmann DT: Adams, Ngata (1st rounder), Edwards, Anderson OLB: Spikes, Crowell, Stamer, Haggan ILB: Fletcher, Ezekiel, (Draft pick, 3rd round) SS: Milloy, Wire, (draft pick, comp 3rd round) FS: Baker, Leonard CB: McGee, Clements, King, Greer, Thomas P: Moorman PK: Ryan Longwell (final offseason acquisition!)
  22. I'm NOT knocking Peyton Manning, but he's won exactly the same ammount of Super Bowls as J. P. Losman! The point is that he's had the great offensive line for, oh say, 8 years now and his talent quotient around him has ALWAYS been top shelf. The proof with the Indianapolis Colts is that they are playing SMASH MOUTH defense and NOW he's much more likely to get to and win a Super Bowl. The annointing continues this year, but let's wait and see about them getting past Pittsburgh again in the playoffs?! It will be much tougher then!! Oh, and my final note, YES, I'd want him QBing my team any day!! He is the best in the game today, hands down!!!
  23. For the beating Coy Wire takes, maybe Mikey can contribute at SS! Or maybe NOT!! Hard to find a position for a $7 million man!
  24. It might end up being cyclical, quite a bit like the WR position. Go big... Go small... go big.... go small, etc etc etc! How do you like your RB, I prefer Jerome Bettis types myself (Buffalo weather and all) or do you like the Scat back like Marshall Faulk! I think some of it is predicated on what type of defense you build. If you are dominant up front, maybe you opt for the sleak coverage type. If you are a little light up front, maybe the stout, up in the box guy would be your cup 'o tea! The best of all worlds is the freak that can do both equally well, and I'm stuck for that example.... maybe Roy Williams in Dallas? The one guy in Buffalo who I thought could pull off the feat of being good both ways was Antoine Winfield. I thought he'd make a fine safety! Greta tackler and pretty good coverage at that position!
  25. First, realization at One Bills Drive that the back seven are fine, sign Nate Clements! To make Aaron Schobel and Chris Kelsay MUCH MORE effective, draft two very early DT's ( I've suggested Gabriel Watson and Orien Harris) and mend the fences with Sam Adams! Offensively, make a concerted effort to woo either LeCharles Bentley and/or Steve Hutchinson! Dedicate Jason Peters development to his destined position, OLT! I agree, play Duke Preston NOW! Mike Gandy has been a bit of a "unsung" hero, but I'd like him to be the Marcus Price of this offense, very valuable, but definately NOT a starter! Rebuilding this team from the inside out will instantly propel the Bills into contention, IMO
