Why didn’t Belichick play Malcolm Butler?
dave mcbride replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not sure this was posted yet, but it's a really good analysis: https://www.patspulpit.com/2018/2/7/16974084/super-bowl-52-new-england-patriots-philadelphia-eagles-film-review-malcolm-butler-gilmore-bademosi -
Andrew Luck to Bills speculation/chatter
dave mcbride replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He threw for 321 yards 13 months ago while playing with this injury (January 1, 2017). I suspect he will be fine. This is not normally a career-ending injury. -
Nick Foles is going nowhere...

He played well for KC in 2016. His bad times were in LA under Fisher, who also oversaw terrible performances by Keenum and Goff. -

LOL - "rivalry." This from a 3-13 franchise that hangs this from the ceiling of their stadium: -
Would you eat horse poo for a Bills Superbowl win?

Who was the best QB of the drought?
dave mcbride replied to Another Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I sort of can't believe I'm saying this, but upon looking at the meager offerings, I'd put Orton second. I'm not saying he was good. Just better than the others. I love Fitz as a person/idea, but he was a painful-to-watch turnover machine at the end of the day. -

yup, I was talking about 2016. My apologies. (They were in fact seventh in points after week 16 last year, right before that abortion of an offensive performance in the final game of the season.) He fumbled FIFTEEN times. He was terrible. -

It is truly laughable. It almost makes you think that anyone claiming such never watched the games. Bledsoe's performance in 2003 was one of the worst in team history. He was a qb who was entirely reliant on having an elite receiver, and when Moulds went down and later came back gimpy, he couldn't overcome it. That team had seven games in which they scored 10 points or under - and this is after they scored 69 points in the first two games. Say what you will about Taylor, but his receiving corps was even worse than the Bills' corps in 2003, but he at least maintained his league average 89-90 passer rating. The Bills had 3 games with 10 or less points not including the playoff game. In 03, Bledsoe was sacked 49 times, had 11 TD passes, 12 INTs, and fifteen-count-'em-fifteen fumbles. -

After his first 8 games, Bledsoe was HORRIBLE. In his final 2.5 seasons, his passer rating was under 75. That is hard to do unless you're really bad. Taylor didn't play in the final game. They were 7th in points after week 16. It's an open and shut case and not debatable. They had very few defensive points in 2016. They had zero ST points and two TDs (Nickell Roby Coleman v the Rams and Aaron Williams v AZ). They were 23rd in the league in generating turnovers too. -
He just had an epically great game. He was unbelievable last night. This sort of stuff is just ridiculous.

See my edit above about KC last year. Objectively, the numbers are really good, and it's the same system as Pederson's. So I'd say that he's only really struggled in a) a classic pro-style offense and b) cold weather games (e.g., the Dallas game this year). Not sure you watched the Rams-Philly game this year, but he was very good when he came in in relief.
-
But you'd agree that in the right situation, he can excel, right? Looking back, was there a worse system for him than Jeff Fisher's Rams' offense? They ran a straight-up Air Coryell offense that year, which is about the worst system possible for a player like him. PS - in his limited time in KC in 2016, he was actually pretty good: 3 games, 410 yards, 8.5 ypa, 3 TDs, 0 INTs, and a 105.9 rating. That's an Andy Reid offense too, which again is a viable and reasonably common offense in the NFL now. The additional thing is that Belichick clearly struggles against Reid's system.

Congratulations Steven Means!

Two actual Buffalonians play for Philly. That's pretty cool. -
Oh, I don't know about that. I think that game came down to three factors: 1) (most importantly) the absence of a healthy Freeney, who got hurt in the championship game. He was the best defensive player in the league that year. 2) A wide-open Pierre Garcon's drop of a perfect throw that would have prevented NO from getting another possession before halftime. NO did and scored. 3) The (allegedly) mis-run route by Reggie Wayne that led to the pick six that effectively ended the game. Those are all player-related, not coaching related. That Saints team was really good too: 13-3.

Would You Want Malcolm Butler?
dave mcbride replied to bills8323's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Gilmore was PFF's 6th rated CB overall this year. Butler was 51st. Gilmore played really well in the postseason too. He was the only consistently decent defender on the field for the Pats yesterday. -

I'm not sure that this has been said, but Butler wasn't that good this year. PFF confirms this: Gilmore is their #6-rated cb overall, and Butler was 51st. -
Oh, I agree, but the long-term problem with the Bills hasn't really been the defense; they've fielded some good ones and a couple of great ones over the drought. The issue is the offense, which has been bad for a long time. The only bright spot was 2015-16, and they were only pretty good and flawed to boot. I don't really give them credit for 2002 given how the offense collapsed like a house of cards late in the season. Bledsoe had 16 TDs and 5 INTs through 8 games; he finished with 24 TDs and 15 picks. Re the Pats this season, they were always very flawed on D. The loss of Hightower was huge, and their inability to replace Chandler Jones showed up in the last couple of games. Their offense was fantastic this season, and they were very impressive last night against a very good D.
