Andrew Luck to Bills speculation/chatter
dave mcbride replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
But his cap number really isn't that bad. It's squarely in line with good veteran qbs. That's what I don't get in your line of thinking. His cap numbers for the next four years are $18, million, $21 million, $22 million, and $21 million. The cap goes up a fair bit every year, you know, so the flatness of the final three years means it's a relative decline. Fox just agreed to massively increase the amount of money they pay the NFL annually too. -
Andrew Luck to Bills speculation/chatter
dave mcbride replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The claim that his was the only qb that Rex's defense fooled is simply not true. Man, just a couple of weeks later, they absolutely smothered Miami and won 41-14. Your hate of Luck, is very strong, and frankly borders on trolldom at this point. When he starts, the bad franchise he plays for wins a fair bit more than it loses. If healthy (and fwiw I think he will be), he would quite possibly end up being the best qb in team history. He's certainly likely to be better than Bledsoe/Fergy/Flutie. As for Kelly, who knows, but it is the case that Jimbo really only had 2-3 truly elite seasons in his career (1990, 1991, and I'd add 1995 given the situation). having said all of this, I don't see the trade ever happening. The one wild card is that Luck might be demanding to get out given how Indy handled the injury situation. -
OT--- How the hell is Roger Craig not in the HOF?
dave mcbride replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, but Craig wasn't the driving force in those postseasons. Montana was, with help from Ronnie Lott, Dwight Clark, and of course Jerry Rice. I actually don't have an opinion one way or the other about Craig, to be honest. But there are more productive players than him at the same position who aren't in (Ricky Watters and Edgerrin James). In 6 games playoff games in 1981 and 1984, Clark had 36 catches for 541 yards. That's a lot!! EDIT: In his 3 SB seasons, Craig had 1,040 yards from scrimmage in 9 games along with 8 TDs. That's obviously pretty damn good. -

I hate to sound like a broken record, but ... postseason. It matters. They're the biggest and most meaningful games, and they're on the biggest stage. They determine champions, which is what the NFL is all about. Outside of Tom Brady and Joe Montana, there is no better postseason performer in league history than Terrell Davis. -
See Yolo's post above.

Von Miller is already talking it up. Good trade for both sides.

A plurality, not a majority.

OT--- How the hell is Roger Craig not in the HOF?

The big one for me is Edgerrin James. He's not in, and he's only RB with over 12,000 yards who isn't. He also has 15,610 total yards - 2500 more than Craig and 700 more than Ricky Watters. He played a lot in the postseason too. James had 91 total TDs, as did Watters. Craig had 73. James also led the league in rushing twice. -

Gore will get in. I'm assuming he's going to play next year (he was good this season), and he will quickly pass Curtis Martin for #4 on the all-time rushing list. He's 75 yards behind Martin and 1,243 behind Barry Sanders. -

full story above! It's pretty hilarious at the end. The Vikings offense left the field before the game was over! -

For those who don't remember Chuck Foreman, enjoy!!!!!! Buffalo fans: they haven't really changed. At least it wasn't a dildo. https://www.twincities.com/2014/10/15/vikings-chuck-foreman-still-struck-by-75-snowball-fiasco/ -

(Incidentally, Marshawn had 101 yards in the final game of the season this year (blowout loss), which got him to 10,000 yards - 10,003 in all. I think he gets in eventually.) -

Ricky Watters' numbers are significantly more impressive than Craig's. I don't really have a dog in this fight, but if you're a RB, I think voters feel you need to get to 10,000 yards or have either some out-of-this-world numbers in the postseason like Terrell Davis or a career cut short by injury after a meteoric few years (Gale Sayers). For regular good players, it's kinda like sluggers and 500 homers (Fred McGriff has 493 and isn't in). I'm not saying that's right, but it is what it is. -

Absolutely on Lenny Moore. Nice point! I was born in 1967 so I never saw him play, but as a kid I remember watching Lydell Mitchell make catch after catch from Bert Jones (one of the better QBs I ever watched). -
What did you learn from the Smith Trade?
dave mcbride replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Smith was a top-10 qb this past season by any measure, I think. As we've seen, aging vet QBs tend to get better in their late 30s these days. I think it's a very good trade by the Redskins. Smith is good. -

Terrell Davis ABSOLUTELY belongs in the HOF, and it's actually a slam dunk. He had 1200 yards rushing and 12 TDs in 8 playoff games, which is staggering. Prorated, his postseason numbers amount to 2,400 rushing yards and 24 TDs over a 16 game season - and this is against the best competition in the league. Plus he was a SB MVP (deservingly so too). Unlike baseball, postseason performance actually matters in football. Lydell Mitchell too. He was the first to really occupy the sort of role that Craig filled for a sustained period of time. Postseason. It matters. And it should. -
Predict which team will sign Kirk Cousins (Poll)
dave mcbride replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I picked the Jets because - strangely - the hire of Dennison. I know he's not the OC, but he'll have a hand in shaping the offense and Cousins is an ideal sort of player for him. -
A) I think Cousins is a very good QB. B) I kinda think the point is moot because there are a couple of teams that are better fits - Arizona and Denver. Regardless of their records this past season, they have better rosters than Buffalo at the moment and are in more of a win-now mindset than Buffalo. That's where I expect he ends up. That said, the Bills CAN afford him with relative ease. The thought of this must be one reason why Beane is so bummed about the unanticipated Wood cap charge! I have a feeling the Bills will be in it, but I don't expect them to win. Cousins is going to get a very significant deal from someone given the competition.
