Scouts Inc. Todd McShay says Henry for Shelton
MadBuffaloDisease replied to brihs2005's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If TD can get Shelton AND a swap of picks, that would be amazing! The swap of picks is worth the 2nd pick of the 4th round (early 4th/late 3rd of sorts), and Shelton is worth at least a 3rd rounder. Man I hope it happens. -
Would you say a college DE hits about as hard as an NFL SS? And again why would a guy who is 6'6" and 240+# have more trouble than a guy who is smaller and who ALSO didn't experience NFL-style hitting? Obviously there is. But having played QB will help him, just like JR said it helped HIM. And again if Jones was able to handle playing QB in college, he could be taught how to play WR. It's not like they're going to let him loose on the field without any instruction, and although it might not produce immediate results, it would be worth the gamble. More than a few athletic college QB's have had success in the NFL as WR's, and at least early-on I can see the Bills using Jones like the Jags used Wilford last year.
-
Jones is 6'6" and 242# currently. Why a safety would be able to "drill" him and make him want to think of retirement versus a guy who is 5-6" shorter and 35-40# lighter is anyone's guess?! Jones has been a QB for the past 4 years in college and knows a thing or two about getting drilled, by guys MUCH bigger than an NFL strong safety. Jones has freakish skills in terms of size and speed and agility. He also is supposed to have good-to-great hands. He also has a college QB's understanding of the game, like Riemersma did. What he doesn't have is experience at the college or pro level to play WR. However if he could play QB in college, I'm sure he can handle learning how to play WR in the NFL. There is no guarantee, just like there was no guarantee on guys like Terrell, Stokes, and Howard, but sometimes you gotta take the chance.

I know. Never figured that one out. Hell they traded-up to get Denny, and it would have cost just a day 2 pick to move up enough to get Witten!

the feathers are a flyin'

And if they were to take a RB with their 8th overall pick, they would have to pay him a ton and wouldn't know if he could play in the NFL until he hit the field. If they took one in the 2nd round, they'd be paying less, but have a smaller chance of that RB being starter material. -
This is it. TD is a moron
MadBuffaloDisease replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
LOL! If JP tears his "rotating cup" by throwing a soft lob in a meaningless effort, I'd rather find that out BEFORE the season started. -
You probably would have given-up Peerless for a conditional 3rd rounder, with that logic. Your mistake is allowing your personal feelings about Travis to enter into what should purely be a business transaction. You could believe whatever you want about what Travis may or may not do in the future, but you don't offer a lame deal to another team when you're trying to get the most for him. The conditions you proposed above are the MINIMUM I'd ask for, but I would add other conditions to bump-up the compensation to a 1st rounder should Travis reach them, because the Bills should be compensated if Travis plays up to the level he's shown. To do otherwise makes so little sense it's not even worth making the trade. Oh and Green has stated publicly that he's still interested in Travis. And he's willing to give up at least Shelton, who I'd say is worth much more than a 4th rounder.

Rachel Ray mentions Anchor Bar...

If that was the same episode I saw a month or so ago, she also said that Buffalo has a great football team. And if there weren't enough reasons to love her already! -
Kirwan on the trade with Arizona
MadBuffaloDisease replied to VABills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Nothing in what was quoted above from Kirwan leads me to believe that Shelton is NOT involved in the deal. I think the underlying theme is it's Henry for Shelton, but what in addition, which now seems to be the swap of 2nd's. -
Now Clayton (per AZ board) says Henry trade will
MadBuffaloDisease replied to PIZ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Doh! Sorry about that. For some reason I thought Winfield was lost this past off-season. But that still leaves Jennings and Williams as potentially high-round comp picks, assuming Gandy or Anderson don't make the Pro Bowl. -
I agree JP will likely get sacked a lot due to his inexperience. However the benchmark for me ultimately will be the 16 sacks in 11 games that Bledsoe took after Willis became the starter, despite being a "statue" and playing the Pats once and Dols twice in that stretch.

Henry did it 2 years in a row with the Bills, in the (at the time) tough AFC East, and there's NO ONE on the Cardinals' roster who is even close to Henry in terms of talent. That and his low pricetag are why Green is still interested in him after all this time, despite Alexander and James being available for just 2nd rounders. There's little doubt in my mind that, if he stays healthy, he'll start the whole season and rack up AT LEAST that many yards and TD's. Again it's the NFC West we're talking about here. The Cardinals were still in the running to WIN the division until the last week of the year, and they were never above .500! How many yards did he gain on 3rd downs with the Bills? And there is EVERY reason to believe he can duplicate, if not surpass those numbers, again assuming he's healthy, which is where the "conditional" part comes into play. So the Bills LOST games because of Travis in 2002 and 2003? You don't think that the horrible defense in 2002, or the lack of any offensive threat for most of 2003 had anything to do with the Bills losing? Again it's the NFC West, and the Cards will have Kurt Warner throwing to Anquan Boldin, Larry Fitzgerald, and Bryant Johnson, which is a pretty damn good passing game potentially. Don't apply for that GM job just yet ATBNG. TD wouldn't stop at those paltry numbers, and if Green balks at compensation at a 2nd or 1st rounder should Henry reach 1400+ yards, screw him and as I said, let him take a chance with a rookie.

Not true. Comp picks are gained by having a net loss of UFA's, up to a max of 3 IIRC, and whose salaries and/or performances outweigh those who were gained by the team. So only players that the Bills signed as UFA's count, and unless they become Pro Bowlers, the Bills are looking at high comp picks for losing Winfield, Jennings, and Williams, not matter who they trade for or sign after being cut (in which case they'd merely be a FA, not an UFA). -

The Cards would use the 8th overall pick on a CB, not the 55th (that they'd get from Buffalo in the trade/swap of picks). -
Dudes. You're all wrong about Shelton
MadBuffaloDisease replied to DeeRay's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If the Bills trade for Shelton, it will be to compete at LT. However I don't discount that Shelton's presence COULD be a message to MW to get his ass in gear. But then again, MW might be thinking he's made a ton of money and it would cost a lot for the Bills to cut him, so no big deal. Bottom line is that MW has to want it for himself, not some outside reason. -
What "conditions" make Henry worth just a 4th rounder? Say he rushes for 1400 yards and scores 12 TD's (which were close to his averages in 2002 and 2003, and would be conservative estimates assuming he stays reasonably healthy and since he'd be playing in the weak NFC West), would you say that he was worth just a 4th rounder? I wouldn't, and if a conditional pick WERE part of the trade (without Shelton), I'd tell Green to take his chances on a rookie OR spend a ton on a guy like Alexander or James.
-
True, because Jones would be in the hospital, and the safety would be throw-out of the game, if suspended for a few games. TSW isn't the ONLY thing trying to become "kindler and gentler."
-
A freak with a 6'6" frame and 4.3 speed? Hell give me some of THAT! He's supposed to have good hands as well. What's so hard about telling him to go deep and catch whatever comes his way? It's not like DB's will be able to jam him.
-
Depth we gots. It's the starters, namely at LT, that is the real concern. But I don't see a 2nd round rookie who can step-in and play LT this year.
-
No way he lasts past the 2nd round.

Good news re: TE if true
MadBuffaloDisease replied to Fake-Fat Sunny's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I like Campbell. He's a good TE. That being said, I want better. Just call me greedy! -
Like that assessment of BA said, if he could lose some weight, he could be a major steal for the Bills. Hopefully McNally will inspire him to do so.

David Terrell joins Pats

He was talking to me. HD thinks the Pats will never lose another SB while Belichick and Brady are around. Splat! -
David Terrell joins Pats
MadBuffaloDisease replied to Thailog80's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Pats have already proven that they're cheap AND have no loyalty, even though they expect it from their players. Brady and his agents aren't dummies and obviously see this. That's why they're holding-out for a huge signing bonus upfront which will ensure the Pats have to keep him for awhile, instead of being able to cut him at their whim. So the question is, how valuable is Brady to the Patriots? Do they cave-in to his demands and screw their cap for the present and future or do they take a hardline approach, have a $10+M (which is ~1/8th of the cap) cap hit for the next 2 years and then have to franchise him for about the same amount, if not more, with the promise of an even BIGGER contract, and screw their cap for the present? I don't know, but the end result is the Pats will be paying Brady a ton one way or another, and that means losing players at other positions. And as we've seen, the Pats rely more on coaching/defense than on Brady. Sounds like the makings of a bet to me. Care to wager on the chances of that parade happening? -
David Terrell joins Pats
MadBuffaloDisease replied to Thailog80's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sorry but predicting the Pats to not reach the SB again after losing their coordinators and key players from their SB run is much more reality than the fantasy that everything will stay the same because Belichick is the coach and Brady is the QB. Better coach/QB combos haven't been able to sustain that level of success. And again, Brady's contract will soon become an issue WRT the salary cap, one way or another.
