  1. Good God. How? ...They were both head coaches of Buffalo. Not much else in common!
  2. ...but if you trade for him, his salary comes with him. 4th round pick AND $7m That's a lot of resources.
  3. Strong blocking TEs ARE an extension of the OLine. Even better when they can catch as it holds DL/LB from freely charging the QB.
  4. He's a villain I've enjoyed rooting against over the years. Would I want him on my team? Hell yeah. He's still got stuff in the tank and he's good at ALL aspects of being a TE. Helps our running game and boost the passing as well. Besides, it gives us two legit options for TE in case of injury. Gives us a FANTASTIC 2 TE package with Diggs, Gabe, Gronk and Knox. Pound it or chuck it! He catches a TD in the Superbowl and he literally gets to be a hometown hero. what's not to like?
  5. Shawn Merriman would be a fantastic pickup. He really had skills beyond the doping and was going to push us over the top.
  6. I disagree. He can win. Win football games and don't play into the racial stir up. He doesn't make a big deal of it. Stand by that. Don't be wishy-washy.
  7. I have no problem with keeping him if we can get him on a team friendly deal. No, he's not the difference maker that we hoped he'd be, but he's still the primary reason we can play a 4-2 defense. I think we need a real difference maker on the Dline. We're still too ineffective there. Would love a DT terror.
  8. I think McDermitt recognizes that his D needs a solid d line. His Biggest and first notable signing was a DT who could anchor the middle in Star L. Sadly Star has obviously underwhelmed. My choice for first rounder this year is a powerful DT.
  9. That's the problem with ALL offensive line though. A screwup is highly visible and often catastrophic for the play. Yes he got crushed, but to be fair, it was against the greatest defensive lineman if football. I think it's pretty clear that Spain was emotionally unstable enough to be counted on, so we moved on from him. I'm okay with that. He's an NFL caliber guard, maybe a little below average. But he's still better than Winters, Boettger or Ford.
  10. Warner was Lightning quick with his reads and knew how to distill plays down to the bare essence. As you said, he was crazy good at doing the cerebral part of the play. In my memory he also had a lightning fast release. He'd see the play work or the defense make a mistake and immediately take advantage of it. He was also extremely precise in throws to allow the receiver to shield the defender. Anquan Boldon was a master at that and he and Kurt were fantastic together. I've always felt that Warner's criticisms were a little harsh, but not unreasonable because he was "right" in that Josh was too slow at taking an easy short play and also that his mechanics were very inconsistent. Both of which were absolutely true. But Josh as steadily improved at both of those. The unfair part of his criticism I always felt, was that it's a RESULTS oriented game. You get it done or you don't, and it doesn't matter how you get it done. Doing something technique-wise perfectly but not reaching the first down marker is still a failure. Josh was consistently finding ways to succeed even by being not perfect, and I didn't feel Warner was giving him enough credit for those. However, as Josh has improved in the mental game, Kurt has acknowledged it and lauded his improvements. I don't hold it against him like others seem to that he's somehow "late" in recognizing Josh's abilities. One of my favorite plays was one of the examples Warner showed, which was the swing pass to Singletary on the free rusher. Josh recognized it and threw it SUPER quickly and accurately which gave Singletary the chance to have an open field and use it for 14 yards. Far, far, far too often Josh has been slow to get pass out, or inaccurate enough in doing it so the receiver was easy pickings to be tackled for little gain. Plays like that as a cerebral QB, added to his already fantastic physical talent, is what's going to make Josh truly unstoppable. ...and hopefully legendary.
  11. I don't think the Giants WANT a competition for the starting job. They want everyone on the same page trying to make Daniel Jones work. Having a backup QB who is close to the same level would be a disaster for them. They want to establish a new culture with everyone from owners to employees to row in the same direction. It would be a terrible mistake for them and honestly for Trubisky as he wouldn't be given a fair shot at starter.
  12. He's a legit NFL cornerback. Flawless? Heck no, but he's solid, competitive as all get out, does what the coaches want, and we got him as an UNDRAFTED free agent! Talk about value for a difficult to fill position.
  13. Thanks for the link. Isn't it nice to not be scanning the waiver wire after the cutdown for scraps? KNOWING that there's castoffs better than what's on our team.
  14. I'm hopeful for a top 5 defense this year. But it all depends on how well our youth does. As they go, our entire defense goes. Last year, our defense was broken because we had to blitz more than almost every other team. Our defense is designed to NOT blitz and must generate pressure from front 4. That's fundamentally why our whole defense struggled so much despite a fantastic secondary. We have a lot of promising young players. If they pan out, our defense will be very, very good.
  15. I tend to root for most ex-bills to do well. More so for ones that resonated with me such as Fitz. Beyond the Bills, I don't have a "back-up" team per se. I'll generally root for the poor "factory of Sadness" Browns. I'll occasionally follow a team that has gets good and has some real life to it such as the Icky Woods Bengals or Superbowl Shuffle Bears. I won't root for the Cowboys or the Raiders ever. And almost never Philly, "City of Brotherly Love" my ***.
  16. I love hearing about our Rookie's during their first taste of NFL action. Probably my favorite part of the NFL offseason. Is this year's camp open to public? Will we be able to get reports of how our rooks look? Anyone going who can help tell us stories?
  17. Thanks! A nice, positive review of technique and skillset from an ex-NFL corner. I think his actual weight and size are smaller (than what he estimates) and really concern teams about his ability to be healthy vs NFL sized players.
  18. I'm an underdog rooter. I like it when an unexpected flower emerges. Hell Yes I rooted for Jasper to make it! But this guy? I've never had any hope. Obviously crippled in a fundamental way that he was unlikely to recover from to take the abuse of an NFL season. Underwhelming tape beforehand to boot. I didn't even want him wasting a practice squad spot. I can't remember another player that I've thought that about. Hopefully he can get healthy enough to live a non-NFL life.
  19. You are always in trouble if your backup has to play. We are in LESS trouble now than we were before. That's a win.
  20. I think the high blitz rate dramatically drove down our defenses overall effectiveness. The primary goal of the scheme is to pressure the QB with the front 4 and play zone with eyes on QB to take advantage of mistakes caused by the pressure. This is why we have one of the most $$ in the NFL devoted to our DL. Having to blitz so often left much bigger holes for the QB to find easier and quicker. This compounded by our crappy run defense = rough defensive season. I figure better practice time and hopefully better addressing the 1 tech (Star + vet?), and better DE play (Epenesa) + new vet, will allow our D to go back to 2019 play and less blitzing.
  21. We did pay Charles Clay $38m over 5 years with like 23m guaranteed. That's still a lot of coin. ...that we didn't get enough production out of.
